Camping near Palmyra, New Jersey
Palmyra sits on the New Jersey side of the Delaware River, directly across from Northeast Philadelphia. That location makes it a practical RV base for travelers combining Philadelphia sightseeing with South Jersey outdoor time, since the city and the Pine Barrens are each within roughly an hour's drive.
Most camping options fall into two groups. Private, full-service parks close to the river handle RVs with hookups and family amenities. Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday is the only KOA in New Jersey and sits a short drive south of Palmyra. State-run camping is farther out: Washington Crossing State Park is located along the Delaware River, just eight miles north of Trenton, and Wharton State Forest, home to Atsion Recreational Area, spreads across the Pine Barrens between Cherry Hill and Atlantic City.
Closer-in day-use greenspaces such as Village Scene Park and Lake Kandle round out the options for shorter trips, swimming stops, and picnicking between longer drives.
Things to do around Palmyra
Philadelphia is the obvious anchor attraction across the river, with Independence National Historical Park, museums, and family dining all reachable in under 30 minutes from most nearby campgrounds. On the New Jersey side, the Palmyra Cove Nature Park offers birding and Delaware River trails within town.
For water time, Lake Kandle provides a swim lake and picnic setting, while Atsion Lake permits swimming in summer when lifeguards are present, and the Atsion Recreation Area also offers picnic tables and charcoal grills, an accessible playground, two nature trails, and a canoe and kayak launch. Paddlers can pick routes on the Mullica, Batsto, Oswego, and Wading Rivers inside Wharton State Forest.
History travelers use Washington Crossing State Park for its Revolutionary War sites, interpretive trails, and Delaware River access.

The camping season in this corridor runs primarily spring through fall, though a few sites stay open longer. At Atsion, the trailer sanitary station is open April 1 through October 31, while the campsites themselves are open year-round. Reservation demand for New Jersey state parks builds quickly for summer weekends and holidays.
Group campgrounds at Washington Crossing State Park are closed until further notice, with online reservations for other New Jersey state park sites handled at camping.nj.gov, so travelers should verify current status before planning around that site.
Summer is peak season: hot, humid, and busy at both private parks and state lakes. The best window at Atsion is late spring to early fall, particularly between May and September, when weather is mild, though ticks and other insects require repellent and regular checks. Winter drops below freezing on many nights and most state day-use facilities scale back, while private, year-round parks near Philadelphia remain an option for cold-weather stays with hookups.

We had a great experience with RV Cozy Camper. The camper truly lived up to its name — it was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, making our trip relaxing and enjoyable. Everything we needed was thoughtfully provided, and the layout made the space feel welcoming and functional. It was easy to tow and set up, which helped take a lot of stress out of the trip. The attention to detail really showed and made us feel comfortable right away. Communication was smooth and helpful, and any questions we had were answered promptly. Overall, this was a wonderful experience, and we would absolutely recommend RV Cozy Camper to anyone looking for a reliable and comfortable camping option. We would happily use RV Cozy Camper again for future trips!

We had a family reunion out in West Virginia the first week in August. We decided to rent an RV this how I found Rod the owner of the RV. He was very polite and up front we us the whole time. The only down fall is the no pet rule. But we definitely rent from him next year.

We had a blast on our family road trip. "Archie" was easy to drive, clean and comfortable for my family of 3, with room to spare. Rod is a really nice guy and responded quickly to any question we had. We would love to do it again soon

How to book
New Jersey state park sites, including those in Wharton State Forest, are reserved online at camping.nj.gov. That system also handles the group campsites at Washington Crossing State Park when they are open. Atsion Lake cabin rentals require a minimum multi-night stay and must be booked in advance through the same state system.
Private parks such as Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday book directly through the KOA website or by phone. Summer weekends and holiday periods sell out first, so aim to reserve several weeks ahead.
Before booking, confirm rig length limits. Atsion sites accommodate tents and trailers to a maximum of 22 feet, so larger motorhomes should default to private parks near the river.
What to expect on site
Amenity levels vary widely. Philadelphia South/Clarksboro KOA offers full hookup RV sites, glamping tents, and cabins, along with a swimming pool and jacuzzi, clean restroom facilities, a fishing pond, a dog park, and a playground for children, which suits families with kids and larger rigs.
State-forest camping is more rustic. Atsion RV sites are small and accommodate RVs and trailers up to 22 feet, each with a fire ring and picnic table, with flush toilets, showers, and potable water within walking distance; there are no hookups, but there is a dump station onsite. Washington Crossing group campsites contain picnic tables, fire rings and a composting toilet, designated as primitive campsites with no water or electric utilities available on site.
Bring insect repellent, cash for entrance fees, and expect sandy Pine Barrens roads at Atsion.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Palmyra, NJ?
Good news, an RV rental in Palmyra, NJ is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Delaware Valley and the Jersey Shore. On RVezy, travel trailers around Palmyra typically run about $90 to $175 per night, campervans range from $150 to $250, and Class C motorhomes generally land between $200 and $325. Booking midweek in May or September instead of peak July weekends can shave 20 to 30 percent off your total. Use the price filter and check for hosts offering weekly discounts, and message owners directly with your dates to ask about cheap RV rental Palmyra options. Pro tip: a delivered trailer to a Burlington County campground often beats the cost of driving a Class A yourself once fuel is factored in.
visitnj.org/things-to-do/outdoor-adventures/campingWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Palmyra, NJ?
Great news for first-time renters, your regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Palmyra, NJ. New Jersey does not require a CDL or special endorsement for recreational motorhomes used for personal travel, even larger Class A rigs over 26,000 pounds, as long as they're not used commercially. On RVezy you must be at least 25 years old, and the platform handles ID verification digitally before pickup so there are no surprises at the curb. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most renters are surprised at how quick and paperwork-light the process really is.
nj.gov/mvc/license/basicauto.htmIs rental protection included when I rent an RV in Palmyra, NJ?
Yes, every RV rental in Palmyra booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the Route 130 corridor with real peace of mind. At checkout you select your protection level, and each plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip up to its stated limits. Hosts do not set the coverage, you choose it, which keeps you in control of your budget and your comfort level. Pair your plan with a thorough pre-trip walkthrough video and your motorhome rental Palmyra experience stays smooth from the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge to Cape May.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Palmyra RV rental?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets a single, platform-wide cancellation policy that applies to every rent an RV in Palmyra booking, so the rules do not change from listing to listing. You get a short grace period right after booking, and refund eligibility then steps down based on how far in advance you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds you or helps rebook with travel credit. Pro tip: lock in your RV dates early, then finalize your Burlington County campground reservations second, that order saves headaches if your plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Palmyra, NJ?
Absolutely, plenty of pet-friendly RV rental Palmyra options are available, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Many local owners charge a small pet fee of $25 to $75 per trip to cover extra cleaning. Palmyra itself is dog heaven, the Palmyra Cove Nature Park has more than 250 acres of leashed-dog trails right under the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge, and you are about 15 minutes from Cooper River Park in Pennsauken. For overnight stops, Timberlane Campground in Clarksboro and Tip Tam Camping Resort in Tabernacle both welcome leashed pets. Bring a tie-out, a collapsible bowl, and your pup's vaccination records and you are road-ready.
palmyracove.org/Can the RV be delivered to me in Palmyra?
Yes, RV delivery Palmyra is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you would rather not drive a 28-foot motorhome through Philly-bound traffic on Route 73. Many RVezy hosts will deliver the RV directly to your driveway or a Burlington County campground, then set up the awning, level the rig, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees typically run about $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location, and some offer free delivery within a set radius. Filter by Delivery on RVezy and message the host with your campsite address for a flat-rate quote.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Palmyra%2C%20New%20JerseyHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Palmyra, NJ?
You have serious range. Most RVezy hosts in the Palmyra area include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with overages around $0.30 to $0.45 per mile. Want to roam farther? Filter for RV rental with unlimited mileage, several local hosts offer it, ideal for a longer loop through the Finger Lakes or down to the Outer Banks. Always confirm the mileage policy in the listing details before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Palmyra%2C%20New%20JerseyWhere are the best campgrounds near Palmyra, NJ?
You are spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Palmyra cover everything from riverside hookups to deep Pinelands forest. Timberlane Campground in Clarksboro (about 20 minutes southwest) is a family favorite with full hookups and a pool. Brendan T. Byrne State Forest (about 45 minutes east) offers wooded RV sites in the Pine Barrens. Wharton State Forest at Atsion (about an hour away) is a classic for a Jersey wilderness vibe, and Bass River State Forest near Tuckerton has lakefront sites about 75 minutes away. For a beach-adjacent option, Seashore Campsites in Cape May has full hookups about 90 minutes south. Pro tip: New Jersey state park sites release on a rolling reservation window, so set a reminder and book the day yours opens.
newjerseystateparks.reserveamerica.com/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Palmyra, NJ?
You have three sweet seasons. Late April through mid-June and early September through late October are the smartest windows for RV camping Palmyra. Spring temperatures typically sit between 55 and 75 F with blooming dogwoods along the Delaware, and fall delivers crisp 45 to 70 F days with stunning Pine Barrens foliage and far fewer mosquitoes. July and August bring 85 to 92 F heat and humidity along with peak Jersey Shore crowds, still great if you have AC and a campsite booked, but pricier. Winter trips from December to February are doable for hardy travelers, just filter for four-season RVs with heated tanks. Insider tip: the week after Labor Day is the local sweet spot, warm water, emptier campgrounds, and lower rates.
weather.gov/phi/I have never driven an RV before. Is renting in Palmyra a good idea?
Yes, and you will be in great hands. Every RVezy host in the Palmyra, NJ area gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, slide-outs, propane, water, sewer, generator, and the quirks of that specific RV. First time renting an RV? Choose a Class C motorhome or a 20 to 24-foot travel trailer, they drive much like a large van and fit standard lanes on the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge or Route 73. Avoid Center City Philadelphia and stick to I-295, the NJ Turnpike, and the Atlantic City Expressway. Pro tip: do a parking-lot practice loop before merging onto highways, and lean on your host, most welcome a quick text mid-trip if you have questions.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking from Palmyra includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan. One phone call gets you tire changes, jump starts, fuel delivery, lockout help, and towing whether you are parked at Palmyra Cove or 200 miles down the Garden State Parkway. Your host is also a built-in lifeline, most respond within minutes via the RVezy app for system questions like a tripped breaker or a stuck slide, and the RVezy support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap photos of the propane tank, breaker panel, and water valves during your walkthrough, troubleshooting over the phone goes much faster when you can describe what you are looking at.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Palmyra RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Absolutely. Crossing into Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, or Maryland is standard on most rent an RV in Palmyra trips, and many travelers do exactly that, Philadelphia is about 15 minutes over the bridge and the Poconos and Catskills are easy weekends. Some New Jersey hosts also allow trips into Canada, just message them before booking so they can confirm coverage and provide the paperwork you will need at the border. Heads up: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection plan does not extend there. Popular multi-state runs from Palmyra include Cape May down to Assateague Island, MD (about 3 hours) and Palmyra up to Niagara Falls (about 7 hours) via Watkins Glen.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Palmyra RV trip?
Fuel is easier to budget than most people think. Travel trailers do not burn fuel directly, but your tow vehicle's MPG drops by roughly 25 to 40 percent. Campervans typically get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A rigs land closer to 6 to 10 MPG. New Jersey gas prices generally track near the national average, and attendants pump for you, a quirky local perk. For a 300-mile round trip to Cape May in a Class C at 10 MPG, plan on roughly $110 to $130 in fuel at current prices. Pro tip: top off in New Jersey before crossing into Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania fuel taxes are higher.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Palmyra?
Book sooner than you think, the popular spots fill fast. New Jersey State Parks like Bass River, Wharton, Brendan T. Byrne, and Belleplain accept reservations on a rolling window through the state's reservation system, and prime summer weekends frequently sell out within hours of opening. Private campgrounds like Timberlane and Tip Tam Camping Resort accept bookings many months out, especially for July 4th and Labor Day. KOA properties along the Shore release inventory up to 13 months ahead. Pro tip for an RV rental in Palmyra, NJ: lock the campground first, then your RV, since hosts have more flexibility than state park sites. Midweek nights (Sunday to Thursday) are easier to grab and often $10 to $20 cheaper per night.
newjerseystateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are local driving conditions like around Palmyra, NJ?
Palmyra is RV-friendly once you know two rules: avoid Center City Philadelphia and respect bridge height limits. The Tacony-Palmyra Bridge works for most Class B, Class C, and trailer setups, while large Class A rigs should use the Betsy Ross or Walt Whitman Bridge instead. I-295, the NJ Turnpike, and Route 73 are your easy arteries. New Jersey generally limits RV width to 96 inches, length to 40 feet, and height to 13.5 feet on state roads, and the Garden State Parkway has restrictions for larger rigs on its southern segments. Pro tip: head out before 7 AM or after 7 PM to dodge Philadelphia commuter traffic on weekdays.
state.nj.us/transportation/What amenities should I expect at campgrounds near Palmyra?
You will find a great mix, from rustic to resort. Private campgrounds like Timberlane in Clarksboro and Tip Tam Camping Resort in Tabernacle offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, pools, laundry, and camp stores. State forests like Wharton and Bass River typically provide water spigots and vault or flush toilets but no site hookups, you will dump at the campground's central station on the way out. Need to refill fresh water or dump tanks mid-trip? Public dump stations exist at Atsion Recreation Area and Bass River, and travel centers along I-295 and the NJ Turnpike offer year-round dump and potable water fills for a small fee. Pro tip: arrive with full fresh water and empty waste tanks, it makes setup painless.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/index.htmlWhat is inside the RVs available to rent in Palmyra?
More than you would guess. Most RVezy rentals in the Palmyra area come fully equipped: a queen or king bed, a convertible dinette or bunks (typically sleeps 4 to 8), a kitchen with fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, and sink, plus a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet. Air conditioning, furnace, and a generator or shore-power hookup are standard on Class C motorhomes. Many hosts include linens, cookware, and outdoor chairs, and some add TVs, Bluetooth speakers, and Wi-Fi hotspots. Seatbelts are installed for all designated travel seats, which matters for a family RV trip Palmyra with kids. Pro tip: scan the listing's amenities checklist and message the host about anything missing, many will throw in extras like a grill or kayak rack at no charge.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Palmyra%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for a campervan rental Palmyra?
Hosts make it easy to customize. Common add-ons on a campervan rental Palmyra or motorhome booking include linens and towel packages ($25 to $50), kitchen kits (around $25), bike racks, kayak or SUP carriers, propane fire pits, generators, and pet packages. Most Palmyra-area hosts offer two pickup options, you drive to them (often in Cinnaminson, Riverside, or Cherry Hill) or they deliver to your campsite or home. Mileage policies usually include 100 to 150 free miles per night with overages around $0.30 to $0.45, and unlimited mileage is available from select hosts. Pickup is commonly in the afternoon with morning returns, mirroring campground check-in and check-out times. Pro tip: ask politely about a late return, many hosts will accommodate if their next booking allows.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Palmyra%2C%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book an RV rental in Palmyra on RVezy, you pay the full trip cost (rental, fees, and protection) through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. A separate refundable security deposit, typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV's value, is held a few days before pickup and released after a clean return. Choosing a higher-tier protection plan at checkout can reduce the deposit you are responsible for. Pro tip: do a full video walkthrough of the RV's interior and exterior at pickup and at dropoff and send it to your host through RVezy messages, it is the single best way to keep your deposit refund quick and drama-free.
