Campgrounds and RV parks near Phillipsburg, NJ

The Delaware River anchors most trips. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area surrounds 40 miles of the Delaware River and includes the five-mile McDade Hiking and Biking Trail. Driftstone on the Delaware rents canoes, kayaks, and rafts for day trips on the river, and campers fish for smallmouth bass, walleye, pickerel, channel cats, muskellunge, rock bass, and bluegill with a PA or NJ fishing license. Bucks County adds boulder fields, waterfalls, and towpath trails. Ringing Rocks County Park is close to the campground of the same name, with a short hike to a waterfall over a boulder field where visitors bring hammers to ring the rocks. Nearby Delaware Canal State Park offers flat towpath walking and biking. On-park amenities pad out rainy days. Colonial Woods has a heated pool as well as a spray pool, basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts, a stocked fishing pond, and mini-golf.

Camping in the Phillipsburg area is a warm-season activity. Most campgrounds in the region operate seasonally, typically from spring through mid-fall. Colonial Woods Family Resort runs from early April through November 1, with full hookups available for RVs up to 55 feet. Driftstone on the Delaware operates from May 1 to October 31, and opens phone reservations the prior fall and winter. Summer is peak season. Sites at the popular family parks fill weeks ahead for holiday weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day, and river outfitters run at capacity. Driftstone requires a one-week minimum for riverbank sites from late June through Labor Day. Late spring and early fall bring cooler nights, fewer crowds, and reliable foliage color from mid-October into early November. Winter effectively closes the private-campground network in this corner of the Delaware Valley. Renters travelling in the shoulder months should call ahead to confirm hookups, pool operation, and gate hours, since amenities are often reduced before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. Colonial Woods and Driftstone typically open their pools on weekends starting Memorial Day weekend, then daily through Labor Day.

Expect small, family-owned parks rather than large resort chains. Sites are typically wooded or set among farmland, and many properties carry a large share of seasonal campers alongside transient RV spots. Mountainview offers shaded, wooded sites with picnic tables and fire rings, plus 50, 30, or 15-amp electricity, pump-out service, firewood, ice, and a playground. Ringing Rocks Family Campground offers 30- and 50-amp hookups, water, a dump station, and family amenities including a pool and sport courts. Sewer hookups at the site are not universal in this region; a once-a-week pump-out service and a central dump station are common substitutes. Cell service can be spotty in the wooded valleys, and some parks limit Wi-Fi to the office area. Roads leading to some Bucks County parks are narrow and lined with boulders and low-hanging tree limbs. Follow the campground's posted route rather than GPS, especially with a longer rig or a towed vehicle.
