Camping near Richwood, New Jersey

Richwood is an unincorporated community in Gloucester County in southern New Jersey, split between Harrison Township and Mantua Township, with easy access from Route 55 via U.S. Route 322. The area sits about 20 miles south of Philadelphia and within roughly an hour of the Jersey Shore beaches, making it a practical staging area for RV renters who want both city day-trips and coastal outings from a single base. The surrounding farmland and Pine Barrens edge support a mix of private RV parks and family-oriented resorts rather than public state-park campgrounds. Options range from working-farm settings like Old Cedar Campground in Monroeville to full-service resorts such as Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday, Lake Kandle, Four Seasons Campgrounds, and Adventure Bound Tall Pines in the Pine Barrens near Elmer. Most sites in the region offer full hookups, big-rig access, pools, and planned family activities, and the majority operate on a spring-through-fall season with reduced availability in winter.

Things to do near Richwood

Philadelphia is roughly a 20 to 30 minute drive from most campgrounds in the area, putting Independence National Historical Park, the Philadelphia Zoo, and Lincoln Financial Field within easy day-trip range. Camden, just across the Delaware River, adds the Adventure Aquarium and waterfront attractions. Closer to the campgrounds, families can visit Cowtown Rodeo, Bridgeport Speedway, and the antique shops of Mullica Hill. The Two Bridges Wine Trail links a cluster of wineries in the farmland between the Delaware Memorial and Commodore Barry bridges. On-site entertainment carries the trip on rain days: Adventure Bound Tall Pines runs a Fun Zone with splash park, pool, and inflatable water slides, while Old Cedar has mini-golf, a swimming pool, and access to the Elephant Swamp nature trail.

Southern New Jersey has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Most private campgrounds in the Richwood area open in mid-spring and close in late fall, so trip timing hinges on both weather and operating dates. Old Cedar Campground, for example, runs from mid-April through the end of October. Spring brings mild days, blooming farmland, and steady rainfall, with April and May typically the sweet spot for cooler-weather RV travel before pools and splash pads open. Summer is the peak season. Warm, humid days in the 80s Fahrenheit make lake swimming and pool time the main draw, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Weekend sites at family resorts like Adventure Bound Tall Pines and Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday fill early, especially around Independence Day and Labor Day. Fall delivers the most comfortable RV weather: crisp air, lower humidity, and foliage through October. Halloween-themed weekends run at several parks, including a multi-weekend celebration at Adventure Bound Tall Pines. Winter is cold with occasional snow, and most private campgrounds close or reduce services, though the Clarksboro KOA offers extended-stay options into the shoulder season.

We had a great experience with RV Cozy Camper. The camper truly lived up to its name — it was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, making our trip relaxing and enjoyable. Everything we needed was thoughtfully provided, and the layout made the space feel welcoming and functional. It was easy to tow and set up, which helped take a lot of stress out of the trip. The attention to detail really showed and made us feel comfortable right away. Communication was smooth and helpful, and any questions we had were answered promptly. Overall, this was a wonderful experience, and we would absolutely recommend RV Cozy Camper to anyone looking for a reliable and comfortable camping option. We would happily use RV Cozy Camper again for future trips!

We had a family reunion out in West Virginia the first week in August. We decided to rent an RV this how I found Rod the owner of the RV. He was very polite and up front we us the whole time. The only down fall is the no pet rule. But we definitely rent from him next year.

We had a blast on our family road trip. "Archie" was easy to drive, clean and comfortable for my family of 3, with room to spare. Rod is a really nice guy and responded quickly to any question we had. We would love to do it again soon

How to book campgrounds near Richwood

The campgrounds around Richwood are privately operated, so reservations are made directly with each park rather than through a state or federal system like ReserveAmerica or Recreation.gov. Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA is booked through koa.com or the KOA app, and Adventure Bound Tall Pines uses Campspot for online reservations. Old Cedar, Lake Kandle, and Four Seasons Campgrounds take bookings directly through their own websites and phone lines. Summer weekends, holiday weekends, and themed events such as Halloween weekends book out weeks or months ahead, so RV renters should lock in dates as early as possible. Cancellation policies vary: the Clarksboro KOA requires 7 days notice for RV and tent sites and 14 days for cabins, with an administrative fee applied to refunds.

What to expect on the ground

Expect private, family-focused campgrounds rather than wilderness sites. Most parks in this corridor offer full hookups with 20, 30, and 50 amp service, dump stations, laundry, showers, pools, playgrounds, and planned weekend activities. Big-rig access and pull-through sites are available at Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA and at Adventure Bound Tall Pines, though some reviewers note tight turns at Tall Pines for very large rigs. Sites tend to be gravel, sand, or grass, and some can be tight or muddy in shoulder seasons. Wooded settings are typical in the Pine Barrens locations near Elmer, while properties closer to Route 295 sit in more open farmland. Pets on a leash are welcome at nearly every park, and the Clarksboro KOA offers dedicated Paw Pen sites. Quiet hours and guest limits are enforced at family-oriented resorts.
