RV camping near Ringoes, New Jersey
Ringoes sits in central Hunterdon County, within easy reach of the Delaware River corridor and a cluster of New Jersey state parks. RV travelers use it as a base for exploring the rolling farmland of the Sourland region, historic river towns like Lambertville and Frenchtown, and larger reservoirs to the north.
Most publicly managed campgrounds in the area are operated by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry. Spruce Run Reservoir covers 1,290 acres with 15 miles of shoreline, and Spruce Run State Recreational Area is popular for boating, fishing, swimming and camping on a peninsula that juts into the reservoir. Voorhees State Park offers camping, scenic hiking trails and an observatory administered by the New Jersey Astronomical Association. Washington Crossing State Park lies along the Delaware to the south and is the closest state park to Ringoes.
Private options round out the mix. Mountainview Campground is a small rural property in northwest Hunterdon County, and Beaver Valley Campgrounds sits across the river in Ottsville, Pennsylvania, offering easy access to Bucks County attractions.
Things to do near Ringoes
Water recreation is a major draw. The reservoir covers 1,290 acres with 15 miles of shoreline, and Spruce Run supports hiking, fishing, boating, canoeing and swimming from a designated beach. Kayaks and small boats launch easily from the shoreline, and rentals are available on site when staffed.
Inland, Voorhees State Park offers wooded trails and stargazing. The Paul H. Robinson Observatory, operated by the New Jersey Astronomical Association, is open to the public on select evenings and offers a chance to explore the night sky through powerful telescopes. Scenic overlooks provide views of Round Valley Reservoir and Spruce Run Reservoir, while miles of trails wind through forested landscapes for hiking, biking, and nature exploration. Washington Crossing State Park adds Revolutionary War history along the Delaware, with museum exhibits, historic buildings and riverfront picnic areas.
Off-park, families can pick fruit at Hunterdon County farms, ride the Black River and Western tourist railroad from Ringoes, or paddle and tube the Delaware from Lambertville and Frenchtown.

The camping calendar in this area is tightly seasonal. The Voorhees campground is open April to October, and Spruce Run is open April 1 through October 31. Winter camping is not available at the state parks, though day-use areas remain open for hiking, ice fishing and cross-country skiing when conditions allow.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV trips. Mild temperatures and lower humidity create good conditions for outdoor activities, and fall foliage across the Hunterdon hills typically peaks in mid to late October. Bugs, humidity and thunderstorms are more of a factor in July and August.
Summer weekends fill quickly at reservoir sites. Sites fill quickly on summer weekends, and reservations are worth booking early, particularly for waterfront spots. Booking well ahead is essential from Memorial Day through Labor Day, especially for Spruce Run hook-up sites, which are limited. Note that Washington Crossing State Park campgrounds are closed until further notice, so plans should not rely on that park for overnight stays.

We had a family reunion out in West Virginia the first week in August. We decided to rent an RV this how I found Rod the owner of the RV. He was very polite and up front we us the whole time. The only down fall is the no pet rule. But we definitely rent from him next year.

We had a blast on our family road trip. "Archie" was easy to drive, clean and comfortable for my family of 3, with room to spare. Rod is a really nice guy and responded quickly to any question we had. We would love to do it again soon

How to book a site
New Jersey state park sites are reserved online through the state's central system. All advanced camping reservations must be made online at camping.nj.gov. Same-day reservations can be made online until 2:00 p.m., and walk-in reservations are accepted if space is available.
Hookup inventory is limited. Spruce Run has 7 trailer-only campsites with water and electric (30/50) hook-ups with a sanitary dump station available within the campground, and they are campsites 1-4 and 55-57. At Voorhees, 8 sites can accommodate a trailer, however there is no electric or water hook-up, so self-contained rigs work best there.
Private parks book directly. Beaver Valley Campgrounds in Ottsville and Mountainview Campground both accept phone and online reservations, and full-hookup and pull-through sites are easier to find at the private options than at the state parks.
What to expect on site
State-park campgrounds in this area lean rustic. Spruce Run offers 67 tent and trailer sites and three shelters with fire rings and picnic tables, plus a limited number of hook-up sites and a sanitary dump station. Pets and alcoholic beverages are prohibited in the campground, which surprises some first-time visitors.
Pet policies vary by property. Dogs are permitted in the day areas of the park, but the Voorhees campground is not pet-friendly. Private campgrounds in the area generally allow pets on leash.
Rig size matters. Voorhees sites are basic, with picnic tables and fire rings, and the trailer sanitary station is open April 1 through October 31. Larger Class A motorhomes should confirm access and turning room with the operator before arrival, particularly on the narrower county roads leading into rural sites.

weather.gov/phi/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay starting from Ringoes?
You're in one of the friendliest places in the Northeast to learn. Ringoes sits in rural Hunterdon County, with wide rural roads like Route 202 and Old York Road, low traffic outside rush hour, and easy practice loops through farmland before you hit any interstate. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation and walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, slide-outs, leveling, and dumping, so you're never figuring it out alone. First time renting an RV? Start with a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer (under 25 feet); they drive much like a large truck. Pro tip: do a 20-minute practice loop on quieter roads near Ringoes before heading to the campground. You'll build confidence quickly.
nj.gov/mvc/pdf/license/drivermanual.pdfWhat happens if something breaks down during my trip?
Take a deep breath, you're covered. Every RVezy booking from Ringoes includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat tire on Interstate 78, a dead battery at Round Valley, or a propane issue mid-trip, one phone call gets help dispatched to your location. Your host is also a direct resource: most Ringoes-area hosts respond quickly and can troubleshoot quirks specific to their rig over text or phone. RVezy's customer support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV's tire pressure label, fuse panel, and water hookups during the walkthrough, you'll have everything roadside needs if you ever call in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trip destinations from Ringoes, NJ?
You're sitting on one of the best launch pads in the Northeast for an RV road trip from Ringoes. Popular routes include the Jersey Shore (Point Pleasant and Island Beach State Park, about 65 miles east), the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania (about 60 miles northwest), Philadelphia and historic Valley Forge (about 50 to 60 miles south), the Catskills in New York (about 100 miles north), and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (about 55 miles northwest). Crossing into Pennsylvania or New York with your rental is generally fine, just confirm with the host and your protection plan before you go. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. nps.gov/dewa/index.htmWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas costs should I budget for?
Easy to plan for. Most Class C motorhomes in the Ringoes area get 8 to 12 miles per gallon on regular unleaded, travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves but reduce your tow vehicle's mileage by roughly 25 to 40 percent, and Class B campervans are the efficiency champs at 15 to 20 mpg. The closest fueling stations to Ringoes are along Route 202 in Flemington and Route 31. For a weekend trip to Spruce Run and back (about 25 miles round trip), budget $15 to $25 in fuel; a four-day loop to the Poconos and back runs roughly $80 to $130. Pro tip: New Jersey is a full-service gas state, just stay in the driver's seat and an attendant will pump for you.
nj.gov/oag/newsreleases19/pr20190821a.htmlHow far in advance should I book campgrounds near Ringoes?
Sooner is better, but you have flexibility. New Jersey state park campgrounds, including Spruce Run and Round Valley, accept reservations in advance through the state's reservation system, and popular summer weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) often fill 4 to 6 months out. For private campgrounds like Jugtown Mountain Campsites or Camp Taylor, 2 to 3 months ahead is usually enough outside holiday weekends. Mid-week trips can often be booked just days in advance even in peak summer. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for your target booking date, log on early in the morning, and you'll have the best chance at a lakeside site at Spruce Run.
newjerseystateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Ringoes?
Driving an RV around Ringoes is surprisingly relaxed for the Northeast. The town sits on rolling farmland along Route 202 and Old York Road, with low traffic, gentle grades, and good shoulder room. Keep a few rules in mind: the Garden State Parkway restricts certain commercial vehicles and trailers on parts of the road, and New Jersey state-maintained roads generally limit vehicle width to 102 inches, height to 13.5 feet, and standard length limits apply. Avoid driving large rigs through downtown Flemington's narrow historic streets, stick to Route 31 and Route 202. Pro tip: weekend mornings before 10 a.m. are golden, the back roads through East Amwell are quiet and beautiful.
state.nj.us/transportation/freight/trucking/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Ringoes?
You'll find a healthy mix. Spruce Run Recreation Area offers tent and trailer sites with modern restrooms, hot showers, a dump station, picnic tables, fire rings, and a swimming beach, ideal if your RV has good fresh-water and battery capacity. Private campgrounds like Jugtown Mountain Campsites provide full hookups (water, electric, sewer), a pool, and Wi-Fi. Most central New Jersey campgrounds have potable water fill stations and dump stations on-site. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving your host's driveway, and ask them for a quick lesson on using the gray and black tank valves, it saves headaches on day one.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/state-park/spruce-run-recreation-area/What's actually inside a typical RV rental in Ringoes?
More than you'd expect. A motorhome rental in Ringoes typically comes with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or sofa beds (sleeps 4 to 8 depending on size), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning, a propane furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many hosts include extras like a generator for off-grid power, outdoor speakers, a flat-screen TV, and Wi-Fi hotspots. Travel trailers offer similar interiors without the cab, while a campervan rental in Ringoes (Class B) is more compact but easier to drive and park at local wineries. Pro tip: read the listing's amenity list carefully and message the host if you need a specific item like a coffee maker, most happily add it.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ringoes,%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons and pickup options are available when I rent an RV in Ringoes?
Plenty to make life easier. Common add-ons from Ringoes hosts include linens and bedding packages, kitchen kits with pots and dishes, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, bike racks, generators, propane refills, and dump-and-clean services so you can hand back the rig and head home. Pickup is usually at the host's driveway in or near Ringoes; many offer delivery to Spruce Run, Round Valley, or your home address for a per-mile fee. Mileage allowances vary by listing (typically 100 to 150 miles per day, with unlimited options available on some rigs). Pro tip: bundle the dump-and-clean add-on with delivery, you'll get the full first-trip experience for your Ringoes RV trip without lifting a sewer hose.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ringoes,%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
It's straightforward and secure. When you book your RV rental in Ringoes, you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which keeps your payment protected. A refundable security deposit is held before pickup separately from your booking payment, and it's returned after the trip assuming there's no damage or excess cleaning. To avoid surprises, do a thorough walkthrough with the host at pickup and dropoff, take date-stamped photos of the exterior, interior, mileage, and fuel level, and return the RV with the fuel and propane levels noted in your agreement. Pro tip: keep all gas receipts from your trip, it makes any fuel-level dispute a quick conversation.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Ringoes for winter or cold-weather trips?
Yes, and a winter RV trip from Ringoes can be magical. Some Hunterdon County hosts keep their rigs available year-round. Look for listings that mention four-season insulation, heated holding tanks, and a working propane furnace, which keep you cozy when overnight lows dip into the teens or 20s. New Jersey state park campgrounds typically close for the winter season, but private options like Camp Taylor stay open, and you can also book a driveway stay or a Harvest Hosts winery overnight at participating Hunterdon County wineries. Pro tip: plug into shore power whenever possible in winter, run a small space heater inside to save propane, and let faucets drip on the coldest nights. Snowy hikes at Round Valley are worth every layer.
