Campgrounds and RV parks near Riverdale, NJ

Riverdale sits in Morris County in the northern New Jersey Highlands, roughly 30 miles west of Manhattan. The borough works well as a base for RV travelers who want quick access to the New York metro area alongside forest, lake, and ridge country. Interstate 287 and Route 23 both pass close by, which shortens drive times to nearby state parks and private RV parks in New Jersey and southern New York. The closest camping options split into two categories. Public land camping is concentrated at Wawayanda State Park in the Highlands and at Beaver Pond Campground inside Harriman State Park across the New York state line. Private RV parks with full hookups include Black Bear Campground in Florida, New York, and Liberty Harbor RV Park on the Hudson waterfront in Jersey City. Camp Wyanokie, in the hills of West Milford, offers a more rustic backcountry option. Elevations range from river-valley flats near Riverdale up to forested ridges above 1,400 feet in Wawayanda and Harriman, which keeps summer nights noticeably cooler than in the city.

New Jersey state park sites, including Wawayanda, are reserved through the state's centralized system at camping.nj.gov. Group sites at Wawayanda require a minimum party size of seven and may involve contacting the park office directly. New York state park sites, including Beaver Pond, use Reserve America. Camping reservations can be made up to nine months in advance, with sites becoming available at set morning release times. Same-day reservations are permitted until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival, and walk-ins are allowed at campsites. Private parks book directly. Black Bear RV Park operates year-round and takes reservations by phone. Liberty Harbor RV Park accepts direct bookings through its own website and fills quickly for summer weekends and around major New York City events.
