Campgrounds near Rocky Hill
Rocky Hill sits in the Millstone Valley of central New Jersey, roughly halfway between Princeton and the Delaware River. The area works well as an RV base because it puts campers within about an hour of the Jersey Shore, the Delaware Water Gap corridor, and New York City, while the surrounding Somerset and Hunterdon countryside stays rural.
Camping options split into two categories. State parks in the region offer wooded, no-frills sites administered by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry, including Voorhees State Park, which offers camping, hiking trails and an observatory operated by the New Jersey Astronomical Association, and Washington Crossing State Park along the Delaware. Private resorts such as Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort, Timberland Lake Campground, and Indian Rock RV Resort and Campground fill in with full-hookup sites and family amenities.
Most private parks in this part of New Jersey cater to weekend traffic from the New York and Philadelphia metros, so mid-week arrivals see quieter grounds and easier reservations than weekends and holidays.
Things to do near Rocky Hill
Historic sites anchor a lot of trips here. After crossing the Delaware at night, the Continental Army landed at Johnson's Ferry, at the site now known as Washington Crossing State Park, before marching to Trenton to defeat the Hessian troops, and the park still hosts a re-enactment each Christmas. Princeton, Lambertville, and New Hope add walkable downtowns, museums, and restaurants within a short drive.
Outdoor options include the Delaware and Raritan Canal towpath for cycling and paddling, hiking on the Sourland Mountain preserve, and stargazing at Voorhees State Park, where the observatory houses a 26-inch reflecting telescope and offers year-round public sky-watch programs. Families staying near Jackson use Timberland Lake Campground as a base for Six Flags Great Adventure, which sits about two miles east.

New Jersey state park campgrounds run on a defined season. At Voorhees State Park, family campsites, shelters and group campsites are available from April 1 through October 31, and the campground is administered from the Spruce Run office. Private resorts including Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort and Timberland Lake Campground generally operate on a similar April-through-October schedule, with peak demand from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
Spring and fall bring the mildest weather and the widest availability. Summer is warm and humid, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and weekend sites at family-oriented resorts often book weeks in advance. Late September and October add fall foliage across the Sourlands and Delaware Valley.
Winter camping is limited. Washington Crossing State Park campgrounds are closed until further notice, and online reservations for New Jersey state parks are handled at camping.nj.gov, so plans should be confirmed against current park status before arrival.

Marc, the owner, and the RV went way beyond my expectations! Marc is super knowledgeable and helpful. The RV had every amenity you could want, was so easy to drive, and very well maintained. Prior to pick up date Marc sent me documentary and video informational instructions that were extremely useful. Marc was always available for any questions whether before or during our trip. We rented the RV for 13 days and traveled pretty far. I have no doubt that because the RV was so comfortable inconvenience. Our trip was effortless. I would definitely rent with Marc again and can’t wait for our next trip!

We had a family reunion out in West Virginia the first week in August. We decided to rent an RV this how I found Rod the owner of the RV. He was very polite and up front we us the whole time. The only down fall is the no pet rule. But we definitely rent from him next year.

We had a blast on our family road trip. "Archie" was easy to drive, clean and comfortable for my family of 3, with room to spare. Rod is a really nice guy and responded quickly to any question we had. We would love to do it again soon

How to book a campsite
For New Jersey state parks including Voorhees and Washington Crossing, reservations run through the state's central system. Online reservations can be made at camping.nj.gov, where campers can search availability, set trailer length, and receive email notifications when a site opens due to cancellation. Reservation cancellation fees apply, so review the policy before booking.
Private resorts book directly through their own websites or by phone. Timberland Lake Campground and Indian Rock RV Resort and Campground accept phone and online reservations, and Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort handles bookings through its own site. Themed summer weekends and holiday periods fill first, so it pays to lock in dates well ahead.
What to expect on the ground
Sites vary widely by operator. State park campgrounds are wooded and basic: fire ring, picnic table, and limited or no hookups. Voorhees State Park accommodates RVs up to 36 feet with electric and water hookups, plus a trailer sanitary station open April 1 through October 31, and three rustic cabins with wood stoves are available for cooler shoulder-season nights.
Private resorts run larger and busier. Timberland Lake Campground has water, electric and cable TV hookups at all sites, a five-acre lake for fishing and boating, an Olympic size swimming pool, and amenities including pull-thru sites, a dump station, playground, mini golf, planned activities, and boat rentals. Cell coverage is generally reliable across central New Jersey, but wooded loops can be spotty, and weekend crowds mean it pays to arrive early on Fridays.
