Campgrounds and RV parks near Stirling, NJ

Stirling sits in Passaic Township in Morris County, tucked between the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge and the Watchung Reservation in north-central New Jersey. RV renters use it as a quiet base within roughly an hour of Manhattan, with campgrounds concentrated to the west and northwest in the New Jersey Highlands rather than in Stirling itself. The closest options range from small local sites like Fla-Net Park and Goodland Country Club and Spa to full-service private resorts. Panther Lake Camping Resort in Andover features a 45-acre lake on 160 wooded acres about 50 miles from New York City, with a mix of primitive tent sites, water and electric sites, and full-hookup RV sites, plus cabin and trailer rentals. For state-run camping, two Division of Parks and Forestry properties are within reasonable driving distance. Stephens State Park sits in Hackettstown along the banks of the Musconetcong River, with 39 tent and small trailer sites suited to camping, hiking, trout fishing, and wildlife viewing, while Voorhees State Park in Lebanon Township offers 47 tent and trailer sites, group sites, and three shelter cabins.

New Jersey state park campsites are managed through a single portal. Online reservations can be made at camping.nj.gov, and questions about Voorhees can be directed to the Spruce Run Park Office at 908-638-8572, which administers the campground. Stephens is reserved through the same portal. Private resorts each run their own systems. Panther Lake accepts reservations directly through its website or by phone, with nightly, weekly, and seasonal options. Panther Lake operates April 15 through October 31, so plan around that window for full-hookup RV stays. Book holiday weekends and lakeside sites several months out. For state parks, cancellations often appear closer to the arrival date, so setting an availability notification on camping.nj.gov is useful when preferred sites show as booked.
