Campgrounds near Succasunna
Succasunna sits in Morris County in northwest New Jersey, within easy reach of the Highlands region's lakes, state parks, and the Musconetcong River corridor. RV renters use it as a base for weekend trips that combine forested campgrounds, trout streams, and short drives to New York City attractions. The area mixes private resort-style campgrounds with a smaller state park campground on the Musconetcong.
The closest private options include Fla-Net Park on Flanders-Netcong Road in Flanders, which offers full hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp service, water, and sewer, and Panther Lake Camping Resort at 6 Panther Lake Road in Andover, a resort featuring a 45-acre lake on 160 scenic acres just 50 miles from New York City.
Farther out, The Great Divide Campground sits at 68 Phillips Road in Newton in Sussex County, and Stephens State Park at 800 Willow Grove Street in Hackettstown adds a public-land option along the Musconetcong River. Goodland Country Club and Spa on Drakestown Road in Hackettstown rounds out the nearby list.
Things to do near Succasunna
Water activities anchor most trips. Panther Lake Camping Resort has a sandy beach, heated pool, mini golf, and boat rentals on its lake, and The Great Divide adds an Olympic-sized heated swimming pool, security gate, recreation hall, and a two-acre private lake for fishing, along with live bands on Fridays and Saturdays, with holiday weekends offering three days of live entertainment.
For hiking and fishing, Stephens State Park has six miles of marked trails for walking, hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding, and the Musconetcong River provides excellent trout fishing, with NJ Fish and Wildlife stocking brown, rainbow and brook trout in the spring. The Highlands Trail runs through Stephens State Park, giving longer-distance hikers a through-route.
Historic Waterloo Village and the remains of the Morris Canal locks at Saxton Falls sit within a short drive.

The main camping season runs spring through fall. Stephens State Park campsites are open from April 1 through Oct. 31, and Panther Lake Camping Resort operates April 15 through October 31. The Great Divide is open May 1st to mid October, with seasonal sites available. Fla-Net Park operates a similar April-through-mid-October season for most RV guests.
Spring brings trout stocking on the Musconetcong and cool nights that still dip near freezing in March. Summer weekends are the busiest window: sites at private resorts fill weeks in advance, and holiday weekends often sell out earlier. Fall foliage in the Highlands peaks in mid- to late October, and cooler weather thins crowds while parks stay open.
Black bears are active across the region. Black bears are found throughout New Jersey; do not approach or attract bears by making food available, as feeding bears is dangerous and illegal. Store food in hard-sided compartments and keep the site clean.

I accept the charges as followed. However I do not accept charge for 4 days. I only had the vehicle for 3 days. I'd like to dispute the 4th day charged for 250.00

How to book campgrounds near Succasunna
State park sites and private resort sites use different systems. Online reservations for New Jersey state parks can be made at camping.nj.gov. Stephens State Park has thirty nine tent and small trailer sites with fire rings and picnic tables, with a max length of 40 feet, so measure the rented RV before booking and confirm the site will accept the length and slide-out width.
Private campgrounds take reservations directly. Panther Lake, Fla-Net Park, and The Great Divide all publish contact numbers and online booking through their own sites. For summer weekends and holidays, book eight to twelve weeks out; for peak music weekends at The Great Divide, book earlier.
When reserving, ask about hookup type (30 amp vs. 50 amp), pull-through availability, dump-station access, and pet rules.
What to expect at campgrounds near Succasunna
Expect a mix of wooded and open sites. Stephens State Park sites are generously sized and well spaced with tree buffers, though the road through the campground needs some paving improvement, so drive slowly with a rental rig. Private resorts run paved or gravel loops with more amenities but tighter neighbor spacing.
Cell service is inconsistent in the wooded areas. Download maps and reservation confirmations before arrival, and expect intermittent coverage inside the tree canopy at both state and private grounds.
Bathhouses vary. State-park facilities are basic; flush toilets and showers are within walking distance at Stephens, while private resorts add pools, camp stores, and laundry. Bring bug spray from late May through September, and plan a tick check after any hike in the Highlands.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Succasunna%2C%20New%20JerseyDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Succasunna, NJ?
Great news for first-timers: a standard New Jersey driver's license (or any valid US/Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Succasunna, even for a 30-foot Class C motorhome. New Jersey does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for non-commercial RVs that recreational renters typically book. You'll need to be at least 25 years old, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform, so the process is fast and fully online. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before you fly. Then you're cleared to hit Route 80 west toward the Delaware Water Gap.

Pro tip: book early to secure the best Morris County rigs, since the grace period lets you commit without overthinking it.

Once you are rolling, Morris County is loaded with dog-friendly spots: Lewis Morris County Park and the trails around Lake Hopatcong both allow leashed dogs, and Mahlon Dickerson Reservation (Morris County's largest park, just north of Succasunna) has miles of pet-friendly trails. Many nearby campgrounds, including Delaware Water Gap / Pocono Mountain KOA and Panther Lake Camping Resort, welcome pets too. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any details so pickup day is smooth.
morrisparks.net/index.php/parks/mahlon-dickerson-reservationCan the RV be delivered to me in Succasunna?

They'll level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Just toggle the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts offering this service, along with their delivery radius and fee. Pro tip: delivery to a nearby campground means you skip city driving entirely and head straight into vacation mode.

Pro tip: New Jersey state park sites book through the NJ Outdoors portal, and weekends from June to September fill up fast, so reserve 2 to 3 months ahead for peak season.
njportal.com/dep/njoutdoorsWhen is the best time of year to take an RV trip from Succasunna?
Late spring through mid-fall is prime time for a Succasunna RV trip, with the absolute sweet spots being mid-May to late June and September to mid-October. Summer (July and August) brings warm 80°F to 90°F days perfect for Lake Hopatcong and shore trips, while early fall delivers cooler 60s and the famous northern New Jersey foliage explosion across the Skylands region. April and November are quieter and cheaper but can be rainy or frosty. Winter rentals exist for hardy travelers but most campgrounds close from late October through April. Pro tip: book a leaf-peeping week between October 5 and 20 along Route 206 north toward High Point State Park for jaw-dropping color.
weather.gov/phi/I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You will be in great shape, especially if it is your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering driving, leveling, propane, the generator, slide-outs, and the dump process step by step. For Succasunna first-timers, start with a travel trailer or compact Class C (under 25 feet) so you are comfortable on Route 10 and I-80 right away. Avoid the older Morris County backroads with low railroad bridges, and skip car-only parkway sections. Pro tip: ask your host to deliver to your first campground so your only driving is the relaxed return trip, and message anytime through the RVezy app if you have questions on the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV on my trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are on I-287 or deep in the Delaware Water Gap. Roadside help handles flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing if needed. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app for questions about quirks specific to their RV. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before you leave Succasunna, and snap a quick photo of the RV's VIN and plate so you can share details fast if you ever need to call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Succasunna RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is one of the best parts of an RV rental in New Jersey, and most Succasunna hosts welcome it. You can easily cross into Pennsylvania for the Poconos, New York for the Catskills and Finger Lakes, or head south through Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Cross-border travel into Canada depends on the specific host and insurance terms on that RV, so message the host before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: from Succasunna you are under 6 hours to Niagara Falls and about 7 to 8 hours to the Canadian border at Thousand Islands, making a multi-state loop very doable.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Succasunna?
Fuel is one of the bigger trip costs, but it is easy to plan for. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A rigs around 6 to 10 MPG, and campervans (Class B) often hit 16 to 20 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, usually 10 to 14 MPG. New Jersey gas prices typically run close to the regional average, and attendants pump it for you since self-serve is still prohibited statewide. For a typical 200-mile weekend loop to the Delaware Water Gap and back in a Class C, expect to spend roughly $60 to $110 on fuel. Pro tip: fill up in NJ before crossing into PA or NY, where prices are often higher.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/How far ahead should I book a campground near Succasunna?
For the smoothest trip, reserve your campground as soon as your RV rental Succasunna dates are locked in. New Jersey state park campgrounds (Stephens, Worthington, Stokes State Forest) book through the official NJ Outdoors reservation portal and open up to 4 months in advance, with summer weekends filling within days. Private parks like Panther Lake Camping Resort and KOA Delaware Water Gap recommend 2 to 6 months ahead for July and August. Fall foliage weekends in October also book up fast. Pro tip: if you're flexible, Sunday-through-Thursday stays open up huge availability and often come with lower nightly rates at both public and private campgrounds.
njportal.com/dep/njoutdoorsWhat are the local driving conditions like around Succasunna?
Driving an RV around Succasunna is very manageable once you know the basics. The main routes (Route 10, Route 46, I-80, and I-287) are wide, well-maintained, and RV-friendly. Avoid the older Morris County backroads with low-clearance railroad bridges (some under 11 feet) and skip the Garden State Parkway's car-only sections south of Exit 105. Winter (December to March) can bring snow and ice, especially in the higher elevations near Lake Hopatcong, so check NJDOT 511 conditions before heading out. Summer thunderstorms can pop up fast in July and August. Pro tip: use the RV-specific routing in apps like RV Life or CoPilot to dodge low bridges, parkways, and weight-restricted roads automatically.

Northern New Jersey campgrounds are well equipped for a comfortable stay. Private parks like Panther Lake Camping Resort and KOA Delaware Water Gap offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, dump stations, laundry, pools, and camp stores. State parks like Stephens and Worthington usually provide electric hookups, potable water spigots, shower buildings, and on-site dump stations, but typically not sewer at the site. You can also find public dump stations at Mahlon Dickerson Reservation. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank at the campground entrance on arrival and dump on your way out to avoid driving heavy, which saves real money on fuel during your motorhome rental Succasunna trip.

Expect comfy beds (most rigs sleep 4 to 8), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a private bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control (AC and furnace), dinette seating with seatbelts for travel, and often a TV. Many hosts include generators, outdoor grills, camp chairs, leveling blocks, and starter kits with linens and kitchenware. Wi-Fi hotspots and solar setups are common upgrades. Pro tip: filter by sleeps count and check the listing's amenity list before booking. If something specific matters (like a king bed or an outdoor kitchen), message the host to confirm.

Mileage policies vary by listing: some include unlimited mileage, others offer a daily allowance with a small per-mile fee for additional miles. Pro tip: bundle a few add-ons in your initial booking request to make sure the host has everything ready at pickup, and confirm pickup and dropoff times to avoid late fees.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Succasunna%2C%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental Succasunna?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through RVezy, so you never pay the host directly. You pay your trip total securely at booking with a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is placed as a hold on your card before pickup (the amount is set by the host and shown on the listing). The hold is released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape with no extra mileage or fuel owed. Pro tip: take detailed photos and a short video at pickup and dropoff (interior, exterior, odometer, fuel gauge) so the deposit comes back fast and any questions are easy to resolve.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAre winter RV rentals available from Succasunna?
Yes, winter RV rentals are available in northern New Jersey, and they can be a memorable way to experience the Skylands region under snow. Look for listings that mention four-season use, heated and enclosed holding tanks, skirting, and reliable furnaces. Most area campgrounds close from late October to mid-April, but a few private parks in the nearby Poconos stay open year-round. Winter temperatures around Succasunna typically run from the low 20s°F to upper 30s°F, with regular snowfall from December through February. Pro tip: book a host experienced with cold-weather use and ask about a heated water hose, then plan trips to nearby Mountain Creek or Hidden Valley for ski-and-stay weekends right from your RV.
