Campgrounds and RV parks near Tinton Falls, NJ

Allaire State Park anchors the outdoor options. The park is best known for its historic 19th-century iron making town, Allaire Village, and the Pine Creek Railroad, a narrow-gauge train ride. The Manasquan River, which winds through the park, provides excellent opportunities for freshwater fishing. A network of trails winds through the park providing opportunities for hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Turkey Swamp Park adds lake-based recreation. A major attraction is the 17-acre lake for fishing, boating, and ice-skating. The park also features miles of trails, an archery range and playgrounds. Canoe, kayak, rowboat, and paddleboat rentals are available in season. Beyond the campgrounds, Tinton Falls is within a short drive of Jersey Shore beaches, boardwalks at Point Pleasant and Seaside Heights, Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, and the Monmouth Battlefield historic site in Manalapan.

The camping season runs mainly April through October, with shoulder months quieter and cooler. The Turkey Swamp Park family campground, open from April 1 to November 15, accommodates tents and travel trailers. Tip Tam Camping Resort typically operates on a seasonal schedule from spring through late October. Allaire State Park campsites are open from April 1 to December 15, though visitors should confirm current status directly, since Allaire State Park family campsites are currently closed due to the construction of a new bathroom and shower facility, while group camping is not affected and remains open April 1 to December 15. Summer weekends and holidays are the busiest windows. Sites for July and August, plus Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends, book out months ahead at both public parks and private resorts. Spring and early fall bring cooler nights, fewer bugs, and easier last-minute availability. Winter camping is limited. Water service, dump stations, and many amenities shut down for the cold months across the region, so hardy campers should arrive fully self-contained.

Sites in this area are mostly wooded and sandy, typical of the coastal plain. At Turkey Swamp Park, all campsites are pull-through with water and electric hookups, and the campground has modern restrooms with hot showers and laundry, plus a self-serve sanitary dump station. Allaire's family loop is more rustic: sites have no hookups, but visitors stay close to park attractions, and the trailer sanitary station is open April 15 through October 15. Private resorts in the area lean toward family activity, with full-hookup RV sites, cabin rentals, pools, and organized weekend programs. Sites at these resorts tend to be closer together, so travelers seeking a wilderness feel should choose a public park instead. Black bears are present in all New Jersey parks, so campers should follow the park's bear safety protocols. Ticks are common in wooded areas from spring through fall, and highway noise carries at Allaire because of its proximity to the Garden State Parkway.
