Campgrounds near Troy Hills
Troy Hills sits in Morris County, New Jersey, within easy reach of both the NYC metro and the wooded Highlands to the northwest. RV renters using Troy Hills as a base can choose between full-hookup private campgrounds, transit-oriented urban RV parking, and rustic state park tenting, all within about an hour's drive.
To the northwest, Panther Lake Camping Resort sits on 160 wooded acres around a 45-acre lake about 50 miles from New York City, and Wawayanda State Park lies in northern New Jersey's Highlands region, spanning parts of Sussex and Passaic counties. Camp Wyanokie occupies 150 acres of forest at the edge of Norvin Green State Forest, surrounding a five-acre lake, and Fla-Net Park in Flanders offers full-hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp service, a pool, laundry, and a playground just off I-80.
For travelers using an RV as a Manhattan base, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City provides electric and water hookups within walking distance of NYC-bound transit. That range covers most trip styles a family renter would consider from Troy Hills.
Things to do near Troy Hills
Hiking dominates the region. Wawayanda State Park contains over 60 miles of well-marked trails plus a 19.6-mile section of the Appalachian Trail restricted to hiking, and paths from Camp Wyanokie's camping area lead to marked hiking trails across the Wyanokie plateau, maintained by the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference.
On the water, Wawayanda offers boating and canoeing with electric motors only, boat and canoe rentals, swimming, and a trailer launch, while Panther Lake Camping Resort adds a sand beach, swimming pool, pickleball, mini golf, arcade, boat rentals, and fishing. Families with younger kids tend to favor the resort-style amenities at Panther Lake.
For a city day, Liberty Harbor puts guests within reach of Manhattan, with ferry, light rail, and PATH connections nearby.

Most public campgrounds in the area run a spring-to-fall season. Wawayanda's group campsites are open April 1 to October 31, and Panther Lake Camping Resort operates from April 15 to October 31. Fla-Net Park operates year-round with full hookups, though its pool and other outdoor amenities run only in the warmer months. Liberty Harbor RV Park is also open year-round and accepts check-ins around the clock even when the office is closed.
Summer is the busy stretch. Booking well in advance is advisable, especially during summer months when campgrounds are busiest. Sites at family resorts on lakes fill first, particularly weekends and holidays.
Spring and fall bring cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and strong foliage color in October. Winter shifts activities toward the mountains: at 1,140 feet elevation, Wawayanda State Park receives significant snow accumulations, and cross-country skiing is permitted on designated trails. Renters targeting winter should plan around Fla-Net or Liberty Harbor, since most wooded parks close their camping loops.

This is exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon! Jeff made things so easy and made things go smoothly for the rental. He even checked on us to make sure we had no problems or questions. I would recommend this rental for any type of occasion. Couldn’t ask for a more friendly person. Thank you

I accept the charges as followed. However I do not accept charge for 4 days. I only had the vehicle for 3 days. I'd like to dispute the 4th day charged for 250.00

How to book campgrounds near Troy Hills
State park sites use New Jersey's central system. For Wawayanda State Park, online reservations can be made at camping.nj.gov. Group sites often require contacting the park office directly, and popular summer weekends move fast, so booking several weeks or months ahead is recommended.
Private campgrounds handle their own reservations. Panther Lake and Fla-Net Park take bookings by phone or through their websites; Panther Lake requires cancellation notification at least 14 days prior to arrival to receive a refund, otherwise a credit is issued for the same year. Camp Wyanokie requires a paid reservation for use of the Lion's Den picnic pavilion and all campsites, handled online through Campspot, and it cannot accommodate RVs and offers no sites with running water, toilets, electricity, or WiFi.
For Liberty Harbor, reserve online or by phone well ahead, especially during peak tourist seasons when both the park and surrounding ferry services see heavy demand.
What to expect on site
Expect a mix of environments within a short drive. Many sites at Panther Lake house seasonal residents, creating a neighborhood atmosphere where permanent RVs and cottages line the roads, with wooded sites offering privacy and open sections built for larger rigs. Cell service is spotty across most of the property, with reliable coverage limited to the entrance, pool, and pavilion.
Wawayanda is more rustic. Water is not available at campsites and must be carried from the main office building, and there are no shower facilities. Camp Wyanokie is tent-only with outhouses and a hand pump for water.
Liberty Harbor is urban and functional, operating as a fenced section within a marina parking area with basic hookups on level gravel, useful as a staging area for city exploration. Fla-Net Park is a highway-adjacent RV park with full hookups and a small pool, geared to overnight travelers and longer-stay workers.
