Twin Rivers is a planned community in East Windsor Township, Mercer County, roughly halfway between Trenton and the Jersey Shore and directly off the New Jersey Turnpike at Exit 8. The closest options cluster to the south and east in Freehold Township, Jackson, and Cream Ridge. Turkey Swamp Park, run by the Monmouth County Park System, offers 64 pull-through wooded sites that can accommodate tents, travel trailers, and motor homes up to 40 feet with up to six people, set within 2,388 wooded acres. Private resorts in the area include Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort in Cream Ridge, Timberland Lake Campground and Indian Rock RV Resort and Campground in Jackson, and Pine Cone Campgrounds in Freehold.
Most of these campgrounds sit within a 20 to 30 minute drive of Twin Rivers, and several are positioned close to Six Flags Great Adventure, making the area a common base for family RV trips that mix outdoor time with theme-park visits.
Things to do near Twin Rivers
Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort sits close to Six Flags Great Adventure, Hurricane Harbor, and the Wild Safari, and roughly 30 minutes from the Jersey Shore, giving families a straightforward loop between theme parks, beaches, and camp. Timberland Lake Campground bills itself as the closest campground to Six Flags, located about two miles west of Six Flags Great Adventure, the Adventure Sports Complex, and The Dome.
On-site recreation varies by park. Turkey Swamp Park features four playgrounds (one inside the campground), a 17-acre lake for boating and fishing with rental boats, 8 miles of trails, open playfields, vending machines, and large-group picnic facilities. Timberland Lake has an Olympic-sized swimming pool and hosts themed weekends throughout the warmer months, along with daily hayrides, a private five-acre lake for fishing, mini-golf, volleyball, horseshoes, and Saturday night DJ dance parties.

The camping season in this part of central New Jersey generally runs from mid-spring through late fall. At Turkey Swamp Park, the family campground is open from April 1 to November 15 and accommodates tents and travel trailers. Private RV parks in Jackson and Cream Ridge tend to operate on a similar April-through-October or November window, with pools typically open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Summer is the peak booking period, driven by Six Flags visitors, shore day trips, and school-vacation demand. Weekend sites at the most popular parks fill weeks ahead, and many campgrounds require a two-night minimum on weekends.
Spring and early fall are quieter, with milder temperatures and lower humidity, though nights can be cool. Winter is off-season for tent and most RV camping in this region; campground water systems are shut down and many gates are closed, so plans should be built around the April-to-November window. At Turkey Swamp, seasonal water service runs approximately April 15 to November 15.

Jacek was amazing with communication and having the advantages being able to have the RV delivered and set up was amazing. I wouldn’t have been able to do it myself. The camper was super clean, and comfortable. We had a great time.

Marc, the owner, and the RV went way beyond my expectations! Marc is super knowledgeable and helpful. The RV had every amenity you could want, was so easy to drive, and very well maintained. Prior to pick up date Marc sent me documentary and video informational instructions that were extremely useful. Marc was always available for any questions whether before or during our trip. We rented the RV for 13 days and traveled pretty far. I have no doubt that because the RV was so comfortable inconvenience. Our trip was effortless. I would definitely rent with Marc again and can’t wait for our next trip!

How to book campgrounds near Twin Rivers
Public campgrounds in the area use their own county reservation systems rather than Recreation.gov. Turkey Swamp Park accepts reservations after January 1 for that year, with the campground open from April 1 to November 15 while the park itself is open year round. Of the 64 sites, 52 are reservable with a prepaid fee for at least 2 nights, and the other 12 sites are first-come, first-served. Reservations require a two-night minimum on weekends (Friday and Saturday), but one-night reservations are allowed Sunday through Thursday.
Private RV resorts such as Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort, Timberland Lake Campground, Indian Rock RV Resort and Campground, and Pine Cone Campgrounds take bookings directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends and any dates overlapping Six Flags peak days, book well in advance.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain across the area is flat to gently rolling, with sandy soils typical of the northern edge of the Pine Barrens. Turkey Swamp Park is a 2,388-acre county park and nature preserve in Freehold Township within the northernmost fringes of the Pine Barrens, sitting on a ridge that forms a major drainage divide within Central New Jersey. Sites at several private parks are sand-based, so RV leveling blocks are useful.
Expect standard eastern-woodland conditions: mosquitoes and ticks from late spring through early fall, occasional afternoon thunderstorms in summer, and dense tree cover that can limit satellite reception. Turkey Swamp campsites include electrical service, drinking water, picnic tables, restrooms with hot showers and laundry, a playground, seasonal water service (approximately April 15 to November 15), and a self-serve sanitary dump station.
Hunting is permitted in parts of some public lands during regulated state seasons, and posted areas should be respected when hiking off the developed campground loops.
