Camping near Vernon Center, New Jersey
Vernon Center sits in the Highlands region of northern New Jersey, in a corner of Sussex County shaped by the Kittatinny and Wawayanda ranges. The area gives RV travelers access to a mix of state park camping, private family resorts, and RV-only parks within a short drive.
The closest anchor is Wawayanda State Park, a large forested park with a lake, an Appalachian Trail corridor, and a network of roughly sixty miles of trails. Private options in the surrounding valleys include Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm in Sussex, Kymers Camping Resort in Branchville, and Black Bear Campground just across the New York line in Florida, NY. Camp Wyanokie offers a more rustic experience to the southeast.
RV travelers typically use the area as a base for hiking, lake swimming, cycling on Highlands terrain, and day trips to Warwick, NY and Mountain Creek in Vernon. Full hookup pads are concentrated at the private resorts, while state park sites are more basic.
Things to do near Vernon Center
Wawayanda State Park is the main outdoor draw. The park has a swimming beach on Wawayanda Lake, kayak and canoe access, and roughly a twenty-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail that climbs Wawayanda Mountain to viewpoints such as Pinwheel Vista. Trails support hiking, with mountain biking allowed on many routes.
Fishing is popular on Wawayanda Lake, which supports trout and landlocked salmon. Ice fishing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing are permitted in winter, when the park's 1,140-foot elevation typically holds snow well.
Families staying at Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm or Kymers Camping Resort will find pools, planned weekend activities, fishing, farm animals or petting, and features like a jump pillow or splash pad. Nearby Mountain Creek in Vernon offers a bike park and waterpark in summer, and Warwick, NY adds orchards, cideries, and small-town dining.

The private campgrounds around Vernon Center run a seasonal calendar. Kymers Camping Resort operates April 1 through October 31, and Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm runs a similar spring-to-fall season. Wawayanda State Park's group and drive-in camping is also open April 1 to October 31. Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY is one of the few options open year-round, with heated water hookups for cold-weather stays.
Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable stretches for RVing here. Days are mild, bugs are lighter than in high summer, and Highlands foliage from late September through mid-October is a major draw.
Summer brings warm, humid days with afternoon thunderstorms and the busiest weekends. Holiday weekends at Kymers and Sun Retreats book heavily. Winter can be snowy at elevation, and most private grounds are closed, so a year-round site like Black Bear is the practical choice for cold-weather trips.

Absolutely amazing renter. The RV had everything we needed and they were very accommodating with our extension.

I accept the charges as followed. However I do not accept charge for 4 days. I only had the vehicle for 3 days. I'd like to dispute the 4th day charged for 250.00

How to book campsites near Vernon Center
State park sites at Wawayanda are reserved through the New Jersey State Park Service at camping.nj.gov. Individual and group sites are bookable online, though group reservations sometimes require contacting the park office directly. Water is not available at campsites and must be carried from the main office, and there are no showers, so plan tank fills before arrival.
Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm books through the Sun Outdoors website or by phone, with RV sites, cottages, and long-term seasonal stays available. Black Bear Campground takes reservations through Campspot and its own site.
Kymers Camping Resort accepts an online reservation request, but bookings are only confirmed by phone with the office. For summer weekends and holidays, reserve well in advance across all of these properties.
What to expect at area campgrounds
Sites vary widely in this area. Black Bear Campground is RV-only with full hookups, 20, 30, and 50-amp service, and back-in or pull-thru sites; no tent camping is allowed. Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm and Kymers Camping Resort offer full-hookup RV sites with 30 and 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable at many pads, plus cabin and park model rentals.
Wawayanda State Park is the most rustic of the group: group sites with picnic tables, fire rings, and a composting restroom, but no water at sites and no showers. Cell coverage inside the park can be spotty.
Expect rolling, sometimes hilly terrain across the region. Big rigs are best suited to the private resorts, which are set up for slide-outs and larger trailers. Bears, deer, and other wildlife are common, so store food securely.

Great news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Vernon Center. New Jersey does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for the motorhomes and trailers available on RVezy. You'll need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy handles ID verification securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before you fly, it typically costs under $25 and pairs with your home license. Every RV rental in Vernon Center includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you pick up the keys. You choose your protection level during checkout, picking the package that fits your comfort and budget. Coverage helps with damage to the RV during your trip, giving real financial peace of mind. If you get a flat on Route 94 or need a jump at Heaven Hill Farm, one call to the roadside line gets help dispatched. Book confidently knowing the safety net is already built in.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat if I need to cancel my Vernon Center RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets a clear cancellation policy that applies to every reservation, with a grace period right after booking so you have breathing room to finalize plans. Your refund depends on how many days before your trip you cancel. Hosts do not set their own policies, RVezy manages cancellations centrally for consistency, and the policy is detailed in the RVezy Help Center rather than displayed on each listing. If a host cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit. If something changes on your end, reach out through the platform and the support team will walk you through your options. That means you can lock in your Vernon Center RV trip today and still have flexibility if life shifts before departure.

Pack a long lead, bowls, and a towel for muddy trail days, your pup will sleep like a champion after a Pochuck hike.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/wawayanda-state-park.htmlCan the RV be delivered to my campground or rental in Vernon Center?
Yes, RV delivery in Vernon Center is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you are new to RVing. Many local hosts will deliver and set up the RV directly at your campground, lake house, or even a friend's driveway in Sussex County. They will level it, hook up water and electric, start the fridge, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. This is a game changer if you are staying put at one spot like Panther Lake Camping Resort or Pleasant Acres Farm Campground. Look for the Delivery filter on listings, and message the host with your exact address to confirm any delivery fee, usually based on mileage from their location.

For state park camping, High Point State Park offers tent and trailer sites about 30 minutes north, and Wawayanda State Park is right next door with group and rustic sites rather than full hookups. Tip: book Panther Lake by February for prime summer weekends, it is the area's busiest RV destination.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/wawayanda-state-park.htmlWhen is the best time to visit Vernon Center, NJ in an RV?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for an RV rental in Vernon Center. Summers run roughly 75 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit during the day with warm evenings perfect for campfires, while fall, especially late September through mid-October, delivers spectacular foliage across the Kittatinny Ridge and easy 55 to 70 degree days. Spring brings wildflowers and mud season, so May is the safer bet. Winters dip into the teens and twenties Fahrenheit with regular snow since Vernon sits at higher elevation than most of NJ, and Mountain Creek ski resort is right here. Some hosts offer winterized RVs with heated tanks for ski trips, a unique reason to rent off-season. For peak leaf-peeping, target the second weekend of October and book by July.

For first time renting an RV, a travel trailer with delivery or a Class C motorhome under 25 feet is a comfortable starting point. Route 94 through Vernon is wide and scenic, perfect for getting comfortable, while you will want to avoid narrow back roads like parts of Breakneck Road. Stick to Route 23 and Route 15 for highway driving. Tip: do a parking lot practice loop near Vernon Crossing before heading to the campground.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my Vernon Center trip?
You are never stranded. The roadside team coordinates towing, jumpstarts, tire service, lockouts, and fuel delivery. Your host is also reachable through the RVezy app for system questions like how to reset the inverter or relight the water heater. Keep both numbers saved in your phone before you leave the driveway, then relax, real backup is built into your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Vernon Center RV rental into New York or Pennsylvania?

Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Popular routes from Vernon include the Hudson Valley loop, the Poconos waterfalls tour, and a New England fall foliage run.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Vernon Center RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable, but it is manageable with a little planning. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 10 miles per gallon, campervans hit 16 to 20 mpg, and a tow vehicle with a travel trailer typically gets 10 to 13 mpg. New Jersey gas prices often track near or slightly below the regional average, and a friendly bonus: in NJ, an attendant pumps for you, no self-serve required. For a 4 day, 300 mile trip in a Class C, budget roughly $130 to $180 in fuel at current prices. Tip: top off on Route 94 in Vernon before heading into New York, where prices typically jump across the border.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Vernon Center?
Earlier is better, especially for summer and fall foliage weekends. New Jersey state parks like Wawayanda and High Point take reservations through the state's Reserve Outdoors NJ system and fill up to 4 months ahead for prime summer dates. Private parks like Panther Lake Camping Resort and Pleasant Acres Farm often book 3 to 6 months ahead for July, August, and Columbus Day weekend. Midweek and shoulder season are far easier, often available 2 to 3 weeks out. Tip: pair your RV rental in Vernon Center with a Sunday through Thursday campground stay, you will find availability, lower rates, and a quieter experience at every park in the area.
newjerseystateparks.reserveamericaoutdoors.com/What are the driving conditions like around Vernon Center?
Vernon is RV-friendly with a few easy-to-learn quirks. Route 94, Route 515, and Route 23 are the main arteries, all wide, well-maintained, and great for motorhomes. The terrain is hilly Skylands country, so expect some climbs and descents, downshift on long downhills like the descent toward Warwick. Avoid narrow back roads such as parts of Breakneck Road and Canistear Road, which have tight curves and overhanging tree limbs. Winter brings real snow at this elevation, so if you are traveling November through March, confirm your host's RV is winterized and ask about traction options. Tip: time your return trip to avoid Sunday afternoons in summer when Mountain Creek and Crystal Springs traffic backs up Route 94 southbound.
state.nj.us/transportation/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Vernon Center?
You will find a solid mix of full-service and rustic options. Private parks like Panther Lake, Pleasant Acres, and Harmony Ridge offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, and sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, camp stores, and pools. State parks like Wawayanda and High Point provide flush or vault toilets and potable water fill stations but no individual hookups, perfect for self-contained RVs. For dumping, Panther Lake and Harmony Ridge offer dump stations for a small fee even if you are not staying. Fill fresh water at any private campground or your host's home before pickup. Tip: ask your host to top off the fresh tank, you will save a stop on day one.

Most RVs come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, bunk options for kids, a kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with furnace and air conditioning, and seatbelts for every passenger. Many include a TV, Bluetooth speakers, outdoor awning with lights, and a propane grill. Wi-Fi varies, some hosts provide a hotspot, others rely on your phone, just ask before booking. Generators are common on Class A and Class C motorhomes for off-grid power. Each listing details exactly what is included, and hosts often add extras like camp chairs, board games, and a coffee maker.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Vernon%20Center%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons can I get with my Vernon Center RV rental?
Hosts offer extras to make your trip easier. Common add-ons for a campervan rental in Vernon Center include delivery and setup (typically a per-mile fee), generator use (hourly or flat daily rate), bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, outdoor furniture, bike racks, kayaks, and propane refills. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Vernon, Hamburg, Sussex, or nearby Warwick, NY, with delivery available throughout Sussex County. Tip: bundle delivery, linens, and a generator on your first rental, you will arrive at Panther Lake to a fully set-up RV with the AC already running.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Vernon%20Center%2C%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book your RV rental in Vernon Center, you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card a few days before your trip, and the amount is set per listing, typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV's value. The hold is released a few days after return assuming no damage or major cleaning issues. To avoid deposit issues, take time-stamped photos at pickup and return, empty tanks at an approved dump station, refuel to the level shown at pickup, and give it a quick sweep.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park or overnight an RV in Vernon Center, NJ?
You have real options for where to park an RV in Vernon Center. Established campgrounds are your best bet for overnight stays: Panther Lake, Pleasant Acres Farm, and Harmony Ridge all welcome RVs with full hookups. For state land, Wawayanda State Park offers group camping by reservation. Overnight parking in retail lots is restricted in Vernon Township. Some Walmart locations in the broader region permit overnight RV stays with manager permission, a common stop for travelers in transit, always call ahead. Avoid sleeping in pull-offs along Route 94 or at trailheads, which are posted no overnight. Tip: for a quick first night before a big trip, book a single night at Pleasant Acres Farm, it is close to Vernon Center and easy to navigate after dark.
