Belfast camping overview
Belfast sits in Allegany County in western New York, roughly a dozen miles south of Letchworth State Park and about an hour and a half from both Buffalo and Rochester. The surrounding Genesee Valley is rural farm country crossed by the Genesee River, with rolling hardwood hills, Amish shops, and small villages within easy driving distance. RV travelers use Belfast as a base for the Letchworth gorge to the north and the Allegany foothills to the south.
Campground options near town range from full-hookup private parks to state park sites farther out. Willard's Country Place and Evergreen Trails Campgrounds are among the closest options, both offering wooded sites in a quiet rural setting. The Houghton / Letchworth KOA sits on Centerville Road near Houghton University and is a common pick for families heading to Letchworth. Misty Mountains Park is set in the hills near Cuba, and Adventure Bound Four Winds offers a larger resort-style layout.
Most private parks in the area accept larger rigs and offer 30 and 50 amp service, with water and sewer at many sites.
Things to do near Belfast
Letchworth State Park is the marquee attraction. The park runs about 17 miles along the Genesee River gorge, with three major waterfalls, cliffs rising several hundred feet, and dozens of miles of trails. Families come for the Gorge Trail, the park swimming pool near the Highbanks area, and hot-air balloon rides launched from within the park.
Closer to Belfast, Cuba Lake and Rushford Lake offer public boat launches for fishing, kayaking, and swimming. Wiscoy Falls, about ten miles from the Houghton area on the way to Letchworth, is a swim-friendly waterfall popular with families. Moss Lake Nature Sanctuary near Houghton has an easy loop trail around a peat bog with wildlife viewing, and the Cuba Cheese Shoppe is a common rainy-day stop. Amish farm stands round out the local options.

The camping season in the Belfast area runs roughly from mid-May through mid-October. Letchworth State Park's tent and trailer loops typically operate from mid-May to mid-October, and the park's Harvey Pool runs on a tentative schedule from late June through Labor Day. The Houghton / Letchworth KOA runs its indoor and outdoor heated pools from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
Summer weekends and holidays fill quickly, especially at Letchworth, so plan several months out. New York State Parks accept reservations up to nine months in advance, and cancellations are common if travelers watch the reservation system. Fall foliage in late September and early October is a major draw for the Genesee Valley, and sites at private parks along the KOA and Letchworth corridor often book out for peak color weekends.
Winters are cold and snowy, and most private campgrounds and all state park tent and trailer loops close for the season.
How to book a campsite near Belfast
State park sites at Letchworth are booked through ReserveAmerica, either online or by phone at 1-800-456-2267. Reservations can be made up to nine months ahead, with a fourteen-night maximum stay. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival, and walk-ins are permitted for campsites only. Note that Letchworth is under phased construction from summer through the following spring, with only loops 100 and 200 open for the full season; the park suggests Allegany, Darien Lakes, or Stony Brook State Parks as alternatives.
Private campgrounds, including the Houghton / Letchworth KOA, Willard's Country Place, Evergreen Trails Campgrounds, Misty Mountains Park, and Adventure Bound Four Winds, book directly through their own websites or by phone. Check each park's site-length limits before booking a larger rig.
What to expect on the ground
Sites in this part of western New York are typically wooded and shaded, with fire rings and picnic tables at each site. Private parks near Belfast offer full hookups, laundry, showers, and general stores. Letchworth State Park campsites have electric at many sites, hot showers within each loop, and a sanitary dump station for trailers, but no sewer hookups at the pad.
Cell service is spotty across the Genesee Valley and is very limited inside parts of Letchworth State Park. Bring a paper map. Firewood must be sourced locally, since New York prohibits moving untreated firewood more than 50 miles from its source.
A maximum of two pets is allowed at state park campsites in designated loops, and proof of current rabies vaccination is required at check-in.

Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every motorhome rental in Belfast, not the host, and there's a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in dates with confidence. After that window, your refund depends on how far out from your trip you cancel. Tip: pack a towel for muddy paws after rainy hikes near the Lower Falls to keep your rental's upholstery clean.
parks.ny.gov/parks/letchworthCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Belfast?
Yes, and it's one of the easiest ways to start your trip. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery in Belfast and the surrounding Allegany County area, meaning they'll drop the rig at your campground, set up the awning and hookups, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. This is a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV, or if you want the motorhome waiting at Letchworth State Park, Allegany State Park, or a private property near Rushford Lake. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message the host with your destination address to confirm the fee and any mileage limits.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Belfast,%20New%20YorkHow far can I drive on a typical RV rental from Belfast?
Belfast is a great launch pad for a Western New York RV road trip, and mileage policies are set per listing on RVezy, so you'll see the daily allowance and any unlimited mileage offers right on the listing page. Many hosts include around 100 to 150 miles per day, which is plenty for a weekend at Letchworth State Park (about 25 miles north) or a Finger Lakes loop. Planning a bigger Belfast NY RV trip? Filter for unlimited-mileage listings or message the host to negotiate a flat add-on for longer drives. Knowing the policy up front keeps your budget predictable.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Belfast,%20New%20YorkWhere are the best campgrounds near Belfast, NY?
You're spoiled for choice. Some of the best campgrounds near Belfast include Letchworth State Park Campground (about 25 miles north, famous for the Grand Canyon of the East and 270 sites with electric hookups), Allegany State Park's Red House and Quaker areas (roughly 50 miles southwest, with lake access and miles of trails), Six S Campground right in Belfast on County Road 16 (with laundry and a relaxed local vibe), and Rushford Lake area sites for boaters. For a quieter night, Palmers Pond State Forest offers free primitive camping nearby. Book Letchworth and Allegany sites through the New York State Parks reservation system up to nine months in advance, especially for summer weekends.
parks.ny.gov/camping/When is the best time to visit Belfast, NY in an RV?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Belfast, with summer highs typically in the upper 70s to low 80s and cool, comfortable nights in the 50s and 60s, perfect for campfires along the Genesee River. Early fall (mid-September to mid-October) is a local favorite: the hardwoods around Letchworth turn red, orange, and gold, and campgrounds are noticeably quieter after Labor Day. Spring brings thundering waterfalls from snowmelt, while winter dips well below freezing and most state park campgrounds close by late October or early November. For peak foliage, target the first two weeks of October in Allegany County.
weather.gov/buf/I've never rented an RV before. How does it work in Belfast?
You're going to do great, and you won't be doing it alone. First time renting an RV in Belfast usually goes like this: you browse listings on RVezy, message the host with any questions, book online, and meet them at pickup (or arrange delivery). At handover, your host walks you through everything: the generator, slide-outs, propane, fresh and gray water tanks, the awning, and how to dump and refill. They'll share their phone number so you can text questions mid-trip, and RVezy's support team is in your back pocket too. Tip: record the walkthrough on your phone so you can replay it later at the campground.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002673233-For-RentersWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're covered. Every RV rental in Belfast, NY booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 305 or a battery hiccup at Letchworth doesn't turn into a vacation-ender. One call connects you with help for towing, tire changes, lockouts, jump starts, and fuel delivery. Your host is also typically a quick text away for RV-specific questions like resetting the inverter or relighting the water heater pilot. Save both numbers in your phone before pulling out of the driveway, and stash a flashlight and a paper map of Allegany County in the glovebox, cell service can get spotty in the rural hollows around Belfast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Belfast RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is on the table, and a Belfast launch puts you within easy reach of Pennsylvania (the PA line is about 35 miles south) and beyond. Popular RV road trip routes from Belfast include the Finger Lakes wine trail (about 1.5 hours northeast), Niagara Falls (roughly 2 hours northwest), and the Allegheny National Forest in PA (about 1.5 hours south). Canada trips may be allowed depending on the host and their insurance, so message the host directly through the listing before you book to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because coverage doesn't extend there. Bring your passport for any Canadian crossing.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Belfast RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, but it's easy to plan for. Class B campervans around Belfast average about 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes typically pull 8 to 12 mpg, and larger Class A rigs land around 7 to 10 mpg. Stations in Belfast, Cuba, and Wellsville along Route 19 are convenient fill-up points. For a weekend loop from Belfast to Letchworth and back (about 60 miles round trip), most renters spend $25 to $60 on fuel in a Class C. Tip: top off in Pennsylvania when you cross the border, fuel taxes there are typically lower than in New York.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Belfast?
Book early and breathe easy. New York State Parks (including Letchworth and Allegany) open reservations up to nine months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and Letchworth's prime weekend sites near Lower Falls sell out quickly, especially in July, August, and peak foliage weekends in early October. For private parks in the Belfast area, two to four weeks ahead is usually fine outside peak season. Midweek arrivals (Sunday through Thursday) almost always have availability, even last minute. Insider move: set a calendar reminder for nine months before your target Letchworth Saturday and book at 9 a.m. Eastern when the window opens.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Belfast, NY?
Driving an RV around Belfast is refreshingly low-stress: traffic is light, Route 19 is the main north-south corridor, and Interstate 86 (the Southern Tier Expressway) is just 20 minutes south with wide lanes built for trucks and trailers. That said, the back roads winding through the hills of Allegany County include some steep grades and tight curves, so take it slow on routes like NY-305 and the climb out of the Genesee River valley. Winters bring lake-effect snow from Lake Erie, so most RV trips happen May through October. Watch for white-tailed deer at dawn and dusk, they're genuinely abundant here. Cruise control and an early start make every drive easier.
511ny.org/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Belfast?
Local campgrounds are well equipped for a comfortable stay. Letchworth State Park offers electric hookups (no full hookups), hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, and potable water fill stations near each loop entrance. Allegany State Park's Red House and Quaker areas have similar amenities plus camp stores. Private parks like Six S Campground in Belfast typically add water and 30/50-amp electric at the site, with laundry on-site. For dumping and refilling between trips, the Letchworth dump station near the Highbanks Camping Area is open to registered campers, and many private parks in the area allow non-guest dumping for a small fee. Always top off fresh water before heading into more remote sites near Rushford Lake.
parks.ny.gov/parks/letchworth/camping.aspxWhat's actually inside the RVs available in Belfast?
Expect a fully equipped home on wheels. Most RV rentals in Belfast on RVezy come with real beds (queen or king in the master, plus convertible dinettes and bunks in family-friendly Class Cs), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and sink, an enclosed bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control via furnace and air conditioning, and seatbelted travel seats for everyone riding. Many listings also include a generator, outdoor speakers, a TV, and Wi-Fi hotspots, which is handy since cell coverage thins out in the hills around Belfast. Each listing page spells out exactly what's included, and you can message the host to confirm specifics like whether linens, a coffee maker, or campfire chairs come along for the ride.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Belfast,%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons can I get with my RVezy rental in Belfast?
Hosts in the Belfast area offer thoughtful add-ons that make trip planning effortless. Common extras include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, bike racks, generator-hour packages, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, and delivery and setup to campgrounds like Letchworth or Allegany State Park (typically priced by the mile from the host's location). Pickup and dropoff are usually scheduled in 30-minute windows directly with the host, and mileage policies are clearly shown on each listing. Tip: bundle delivery, linens, and a kitchen kit and you can show up at your campsite with just a duffel bag and groceries. That's the secret to a stress-free first RV trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Belfast,%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and fully online, no cash, no awkward driveway transactions. When you book your RV rental in Belfast, NY, RVezy charges your card for the rental total, and a refundable security deposit hold is placed shortly before pickup. The exact deposit amount is shown on the listing page. As long as you return the RV on time, clean, undamaged, and with the agreed fuel and tank levels, the hold is released after your trip. Easy way to avoid issues: take date-stamped photos and a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff. Five minutes of footage protects everyone.

Belfast sits at the heart of one of the most underrated RV regions in the Northeast.
