Camping near Binghamton, New York
Binghamton sits at the confluence of the Susquehanna and Chenango rivers in New York's Southern Tier, surrounded by wooded hills, small lakes, and state-managed forestland. RV renters use it as a base for state park camping, riverside recreation, and family resort-style stays within a short drive of I-81, I-86, and I-88.
The closest full-service public option is Chenango Valley State Park, roughly 12 miles north of the city off Route 369. The park is located adjacent to the Chenango River in Broome County and covers about 1,137 acres with two glacial ponds and an 18-hole golf course. Private options nearby include Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort in Endicott, plus Binghamton Bear Campground, Belden Hill Campgrounds, and Lakeside Campground.
Most RV renters choose between the state park for quieter, wooded sites and the private resorts for pools, activity programs, and pull-through hookups. Reservation systems, seasons, and amenities differ significantly between the two, so it pays to match the campground to the trip.
Things to do around Binghamton
At Chenango Valley State Park, day use centers on the beach, boat rentals, hiking, fishing, and the 18-hole Chenango Valley State Park Golf Course, with sledding, ice skating, and cross-country skiing in winter. The park's two glacial ponds are stocked for fishing, and nature trails link the main campground loops.
Families renting an RV often plan around the on-site programming at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort in Endicott, which typically includes a lake with water features, kayaks and pedal boats, mini-golf, jumping pillows, laser tag, gem mining, and themed weekends featuring the Yogi Bear characters.
In town, the Ross Park Zoo, the Roberson Museum and Science Center, the Binghamton-area carousel circuit, and the Susquehanna River trails give rainy-day options within a short drive of every campground on this list.

The Binghamton camping season runs roughly from mid-May through mid-October, tracking the New York State Parks operating calendar and the private resorts' pool schedules. July is the warmest month, with average highs near 80°F and lows near 60°F, long daylight, and the busiest campground weekends. Late spring and summer bring frequent thunderstorms, so early-summer trips should plan for wet afternoons.
Spring and early fall are cooler and less crowded. Nights can drop into the 30s in April and October, and snow can occur as early as November and as late as April, which is why most private parks close their water features and many sites over winter.
Winter camping around Binghamton is limited. Chenango Valley State Park shifts to day-use activities like ice skating, sledding, and cross-country skiing rather than tent or RV camping during the coldest months. Book summer holiday weekends several months out, especially at the state park.
How to book a campsite near Binghamton
Chenango Valley State Park uses the New York State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival for campsites only, and reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center at 1-800-456-2267, with walk-ins permitted on campsites only. Reservations must be made 1 day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 9 months in advance.
Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort in Endicott books through its own website, and Binghamton Bear Campground, Belden Hill Campgrounds, and Lakeside Campground each take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends and holiday periods, reserve as early as possible, since RV sites at Chenango Valley tend to fill quickly.
What to expect on-site
Chenango Valley State Park offers 184 campsites, or 24 warm and cozy cabins, with shower buildings spread through the loops and a small camp store. A small number of campsites offer electric, and water is not available on any campsite, so plan to arrive with fresh tanks filled and confirm electric and length limits when booking. The park is in bear country, so do not leave food, garbage, coolers, or other containers unattended, as these items are an attractant to bears.
Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort in Endicott is a resort-style park with wooded RV sites plus cabins and other rental units, with bathhouses, laundry, and on-site amenities standard.
Pets must be supervised at all times and either crated or on a leash not more than 6 feet in length, and proof of rabies inoculation must be produced if requested by staff. Private parks each set their own pet, quiet-hours, and check-in rules, so review the confirmation email before arrival.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Binghamton, NY
How much does an RV rental in Binghamton, NY actually cost?
Great news: RV rental in Binghamton tends to be one of the more affordable launching points in the Northeast. On RVezy, you'll typically find travel trailers from around $90 to $150 per night, campervans and Class B motorhomes from $150 to $225, and larger Class A or Class C motorhomes from $200 to $325 per night, depending on age and amenities. Pricing is set by individual hosts, so you can filter by your budget and even look for cheap RV rental Binghamton options like older trailers that still come fully equipped. Pro tip: booking midweek (Sunday through Thursday) often saves 15-25% compared to Friday/Saturday pickups, especially outside Spiedie Fest weekend in early August.
visitbinghamton.org/where-to-stay/camping/What license do I need to rent an RV in Binghamton, New York?
Good news for first-time renters: a regular U.S. or Canadian driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Binghamton. New York State does not require a special RV license or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for any of the motorhomes or trailers available on RVezy, including Class A coaches. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified securely through the platform when you book, so there's no paperwork hassle at pickup. International visitors should bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with their home license. Then you're free to roll out toward the Finger Lakes or the Catskills.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Binghamton?
You're covered from the moment you book. Every RV rental in Binghamton, NY through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Interstate 81 or Route 17 with real peace of mind. During checkout you choose the level of protection that fits your trip (you pick the plan, not the host), and the package covers eligible damage to the vehicle while you're driving, parked at Chenango Valley State Park, or hooked up at a riverfront site along the Susquehanna. It's not traditional auto insurance, but it provides meaningful financial protection without the headache. That way you can focus on the trip, not the what-ifs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Binghamton RV rental?
Booking is lower risk than you might think. RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy for every reservation, and there's a full money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. After that window, the amount refunded depends on how close to your trip you cancel. If something major happens, like severe weather in upstate New York or a Susquehanna flood watch, contact RVezy support and they'll walk you through your options, so a surprise doesn't have to derail your Binghamton RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I find a pet-friendly RV rental in Binghamton?
Absolutely, your dog is welcome on this trip. Plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental Binghamton options, and you can filter listings by the Pet-Friendly tag to see them instantly. Once you arrive, the Greater Binghamton area is genuinely dog-loving: Chenango Valley State Park allows leashed pets on most trails and at campsites (rabies certificate required), and the Vestal Rail Trail and Otsiningo Park have miles of easy paved paths perfect for stretching paws after a drive. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your pet's size and breed so they can confirm any cleaning fee upfront and recommend their favorite local dog-friendly spots.
parks.ny.gov/parks/chenangovalleyCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Binghamton?
Yes, and it's a game-changer for first-timers. Many Binghamton-area hosts offer RV delivery, meaning they'll tow or drive the motorhome to your campground, set it up, hook up water and electric, and walk you through everything before they leave. That's perfect if you're staying at Chenango Valley State Park (about 13 miles northeast of downtown), Pine Crest Campground in Windsor, or Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Endicott, where you can skip the stress of backing a 30-foot trailer into a site. Just use the Delivery filter on RVezy, check the host's delivery radius and fee, and message them with your destination. You show up, they hand over the keys, and your Binghamton RV trip starts relaxed.
parks.ny.gov/parks/chenangovalleyHow far can I drive, and what's the mileage policy on a Binghamton RV rental?
You've got plenty of road ahead of you. Each host sets their own mileage allowance, but most Binghamton listings include 100-150 free miles per night, and you'll find some RV rental with unlimited mileage options too (great for longer loops). Extra miles typically run $0.30-$0.45 each. To put that in perspective from Binghamton: Niagara Falls is about 235 miles west, Watkins Glen and the Finger Lakes are around 75 miles northwest, the Catskills are roughly 90 miles east, and New York City sits about 180 miles southeast. Pro tip: if you're planning a big loop, filter for unlimited-mileage listings or message the host to negotiate a custom package for your route.
dot.ny.gov/Where are the best campgrounds near Binghamton, NY to stay in my RV?
You'll be spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Binghamton mix state parks with friendly family-run RV resorts. Top picks include: Chenango Valley State Park (about 13 miles from downtown, 200+ sites with 30/50-amp electric, two lakes, swimming and miles of trails); Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Endicott (full hookups and a top-rated kids' activities program); Pine Crest Campground in Windsor (riverfront sites along the Susquehanna with full hookups); Belden Hill Campgrounds in Harpursville (level pull-throughs with 30/50-amp); and Hickories Park in Owego (town-run, on the Susquehanna, first-come first-served). Pro tip: state parks book up to nine months ahead, so reserve Chenango Valley early for summer weekends.
parks.ny.gov/parks/chenangovalleyWhen is the best time to take an RV trip from Binghamton?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot for RV camping Binghamton, with the absolute peak being mid-June through August when daytime temperatures sit in the 75-82°F range and nights cool to a comfortable 55-62°F. September and the first half of October are arguably even better: fewer crowds, daytime highs in the 60s and 70s, and Southern Tier fall foliage that rivals New England. Most local campgrounds, including Chenango Valley State Park, operate roughly from mid-May to mid-October because winters here are snowy, with the Binghamton area averaging 80+ inches of snowfall. Pro tip: book Spiedie Fest weekend (first weekend of August) early, as RVs and campsites both vanish fast.
weather.gov/bgm/climateI've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay picking one up in Binghamton?
You're going to do great, and you won't be left guessing. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on walkthrough at pickup that covers driving, the generator, slide-outs, water and waste tanks, propane, and how to hook up at a campground. First time renting an RV? Consider starting with a smaller Class C motorhome or a 20-25 foot travel trailer, both of which handle Binghamton's hilly terrain and Route 17/I-86 just fine. The city sits at the confluence of the Susquehanna and Chenango Rivers, so expect some bridge crossings and downtown one-way streets; many renters simply ask for delivery to bypass urban driving entirely. Pro tip: do a short practice loop on quieter roads around Vestal before heading to the highway.
dmv.ny.gov/more-info/drivers-manual-and-practice-testsWhat happens if I break down during my Binghamton RV trip?
You won't be stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on I-88, a dead battery at a trailhead near Whitney Point Reservoir, or a tow off Route 17 is one phone call away. The roadside team can dispatch help, arrange a tow, and coordinate repairs, and RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after your trip if you need anything else. Your host is also just a message away through the app for quick questions like how to reset the generator or where the spare fuses live. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup so you have it handy if you ever need to call for service.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Binghamton RV rental into Pennsylvania or up to Canada?
Yes to one, with a caveat on the other. Binghamton sits less than 15 miles from the Pennsylvania border, and your RVezy rental is fully covered for travel throughout the United States, so a quick run to the Poconos, Scranton, or Williamsport is no problem at all. Trips into Canada (Niagara Falls is about a 4-hour drive) may be allowed depending on the host and the protection package, so message the host through the listing before booking to confirm. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance and protection don't extend there. Pro tip: bring your passport if you're even considering a Canadian side trip, just in case.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV road trip from Binghamton?
Fuel is the biggest variable, but it's easy to plan for. Most Class C motorhomes you'll rent in Binghamton get 8-12 miles per gallon, travel trailers tow at 10-14 mpg behind a pickup, and campervans (Class B) often hit 16-20 mpg. New York gas prices typically run a bit above the national average, hovering around $3.30-$3.80 per gallon in the Binghamton area, and diesel is usually $0.30-$0.60 higher. A 300-mile weekend loop to the Finger Lakes in a Class C will likely cost $90-$130 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Pennsylvania (just south on I-81) where gas taxes are similar but stations near Great Bend are often a few cents cheaper than New York pumps.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Binghamton?
The earlier the better, especially for state parks. New York State Parks like Chenango Valley open reservations up to 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and prime summer weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) often sell out the moment the window opens. For private campgrounds like Pine Crest, Belden Hill, or Yogi Bear's Jellystone in Endicott, aim for 2-3 months ahead for July and August weekends, and 2-3 weeks ahead is usually fine for midweek stays or shoulder season. Standard NY state park sites run $15-$35 per night. Pro tip: if your dates are locked, set a Campnab alert for Chenango Valley, since cancellations open up often as the date nears.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Binghamton for an RV?
Honestly, Binghamton is one of the friendlier upstate cities to drive an RV. The main routes (I-81, I-88, I-86/Route 17) are wide, well-maintained, and built for big rigs heading to the Finger Lakes or Pennsylvania. You'll cross several bridges over the Susquehanna and Chenango Rivers downtown, where lanes can feel tight, so most renters skip the city core and pick up on the outskirts or use delivery. Expect rolling hills (the area sits around 850 feet elevation) and occasional steep grades on smaller country roads. Winter brings serious snow (80+ inches annually) and ice, so most rentals run April through October. Pro tip: check 511NY before you roll out for live road and construction updates.
511ny.org/What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Binghamton?
You'll find a great range. Most private campgrounds in the Binghamton area, like Pine Crest, Belden Hill, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone in Endicott, offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer at the site), Wi-Fi, laundry, hot showers, and a camp store. Chenango Valley State Park has electric hookups (30 and 50-amp) at many sites but no individual sewer; instead, there's a centralized dump station and potable water fill near the entrance. Most parks operate dump stations from April or May through mid-October. Pro tip: New York prohibits importing firewood from outside the state to stop invasive pests, so buy your wood at the campground or from a local vendor once you arrive.
parks.ny.gov/recreation/camping/firewood-regulation.aspxWhat's actually inside the RVs available for rent in Binghamton?
More than you'd expect. Binghamton-area RV rentals on RVezy typically come fully stocked: a real bed (often a queen) plus convertible dinettes or bunks, a kitchen with fridge/freezer, stovetop, microwave, sink and basic cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, heating and air conditioning, a dining area, and seatbelted travel seats. Most motorhomes include a generator or solar setup so you can boondock comfortably, and many hosts add a TV, Bluetooth speaker, or starter Wi-Fi hotspot. Larger Class A and Class C units sleep 6-8 people, perfect for a family RV trip Binghamton-style. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities list for must-haves like a heated underbelly if you're traveling in May or October when overnight temps can drop into the 30s.
energy.gov/energysaver/rv-and-camping-energy-tipsWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect when I rent an RV in Binghamton?
Hosts make it easy to customize. Common add-ons for a motorhome rental Binghamton listing include camp chairs and tables, BBQ grills, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, generators, bike racks, Wi-Fi hotspots, and even pre-stocked pantry kits. Fees vary, but a full setup package is often $50-$150 for the trip. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a nearby meeting spot in Vestal, Endicott, Johnson City, or Binghamton itself, and many hosts offer delivery within 25-50 miles, perfect for drop-offs at Chenango Valley State Park or Yogi Bear's Jellystone in Endicott. Pro tip: ask about a one-way drop-off if you're planning a Binghamton-to-Niagara or Binghamton-to-Catskills route, some hosts will accommodate it.
visitbinghamton.org/How does payment and the security deposit work on an RVezy booking?
It's straightforward and fully handled through the platform, no cash or paper checks at pickup. When you book your RV rental in Binghamton, you'll pay through RVezy's secure system using a credit or debit card, and your host receives the funds after your trip starts. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV's value) is held separately from your booking payment and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video with the host at both pickup and drop-off, so any pre-existing scratches or dings are documented. That single step is the easiest way to make sure your deposit comes back fast and in full.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Binghamton in an RV?
Binghamton is a fantastic launching pad. Popular routes for an RV road trip from Binghamton include: the Finger Lakes wine country and Watkins Glen State Park (about 75 miles northwest, gorgeous gorges and 19 waterfalls); Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame (around 75 miles north); the Catskills and Hunter Mountain (about 90 miles east, perfect for fall foliage); Niagara Falls State Park (235 miles west, roughly 4 hours); and the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania (about 90 miles southeast). Each makes a comfortable 2-4 day loop. Pro tip: combine the Finger Lakes with a stop at Robert H. Treman State Park near Ithaca for waterfall swimming, and book the campground there well ahead, it's one of the most popular in the state.
