Campgrounds and RV parks near Binghamton University, NY

Chenango Valley State Park is the anchor for outdoor days. The park has two kettle lakes, Lily and Chenango, a swimming beach, non-motorized boating, and short hiking trails through the surrounding woods. An 18-hole golf course sits on park grounds, and anglers target trout, bass, perch, and bullhead in Chenango Lake. Birders can spot woodpeckers, nuthatches, warblers, and thrushes on woodland trails, along with herons, ducks, and kingfishers by the water. Families staying at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort get on-site activities without leaving the property: a six-acre swimming lake with a floating obstacle course, kayaks and pedal boats, mini-golf, a jumping pillow, snowless tubing, and daily character meetups with Yogi Bear, Boo Boo, and Cindy Bear. Downtown Binghamton adds the Ross Park Zoo, riverside trails, and the Bundy Museum for rainy afternoons.

The Binghamton climate is continental, with warm summers and cold snowy winters. Rainfall is spread through the year, with the highest monthly totals falling during the growing season from April through September, often as thunderstorms. Winter snowfall accumulates through the colder months. Camping season at Chenango Valley State Park runs from roughly mid-May through mid-October, with the boating window on park lakes set between April 15 and October 15. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort operates on a spring-to-fall schedule, closing around the end of October. Belden Hill Campgrounds, Lakeside Campground, and Binghamton Bear Campground follow similar spring-to-fall windows. July and August bring the busiest bookings and warmest lake swimming. Late September and October cool quickly, but foliage along the Chenango and Susquehanna river valleys draws weekend traffic. Winter is a shoulder period for RV travel: private and state park campgrounds are closed, though Chenango Valley remains open for day use, ice skating, sledding, and cross-country skiing when conditions allow.

Chenango Valley State Park has 184 campsites spread across three campgrounds, plus 24 cabins. A small number of sites offer electric service with 30 and 50 amp options; water is not available at individual sites, though water outlets are placed conveniently throughout the loops. All sites have a picnic table and fire ring, comfort stations with showers serve the loops, and a dump station is on site. Two pets are permitted per site on a leash, with current rabies proof required at check-in. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort offers wooded and lakeside RV sites with 30 and 50 amp full-hookup options, plus cabins, yurts, glamping tents, and Conestoga wagons. Modern bathhouses, a camp store, and on-site food service round out the property. Cell coverage in the region is generally reliable near I-81 and I-88 but drops in the deeper hollows. This is bear country, so food, coolers, and garbage should stay secured.
