Campgrounds and RV parks near Chatham, NY

Chatham sits in Columbia County in New York's Hudson Valley, roughly between the Berkshires to the east and the Catskills to the west. The town works as a practical base for RV travelers looking to explore rural farmland, small villages, and the state parks scattered across the Taconic and Berkshire foothills. Campground options range from private family resorts with full hookups to state-run sites on lakefronts. Spacious Skies Woodland Hills and Alps Family Campground Inc offer amenity-heavy stays with pools and organized activities, while Waubeeka Family Campground and Copake Camping Resort provide larger sites suited to bigger rigs. Lake Taghkanic State Park sits in Columbia County right off the Taconic State Parkway, 11 miles southeast of Hudson in the town of Gallatin, and adds tent, trailer, cabin, and cottage sites on the water. Most campgrounds within roughly an hour of Chatham are seasonal, opening in mid-spring and closing by mid-fall, so trip planning should confirm operating dates before booking.

Private campgrounds in the area, including Spacious Skies Woodland Hills, Alps Family Campground Inc, Waubeeka Family Campground, and Copake Camping Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends and holiday periods sell out first, so booking two to three months in advance is prudent for July and August. Lake Taghkanic State Park uses the New York State Parks reservation system operated by ReserveAmerica. Reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival for campsites only, reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center at 1-800-456-2267, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only.
