Campgrounds near Cohocton
Cohocton sits in Steuben County in New York's Southern Tier, in the Cohocton River valley at the southern edge of the Finger Lakes region. The town is next to Interstate 390, with state routes and county roads feeding directly into the village, so rigs can reach nearby campgrounds within a short drive of the exit.
The closest option is Stetson's Tumble Hill Campground, a wooded property off Atlanta Back Road with full-hookup RV sites, cabins, and tent sites. North of town, Holiday Hill Campground and Tamarack Campgrounds offer larger family-oriented parks with pools and organized activities. South, near Bath, Lake Demmon Recreation Area provides waterfront sites on a 48-acre lake known for bass, pickerel, bluegill, and bullhead fishing.
For a state-park experience, Stony Brook State Park near Dansville is the nearest option, with wooded tent and small-RV sites above a gorge with three waterfalls. Together these five properties cover the range of RV camping styles within about a 30-minute drive of Cohocton.
Things to do near Cohocton
Hiking is the headline activity. Stony Brook State Park has rim and gorge trails past three waterfalls, along with a stream-fed swimming pool at the North Entrance. The Gorge Trail and swimming area have seen recent closures for flood repairs, so check current park status before planning around them.
Water recreation centers on Lake Demmon, where swimming and fishing for bass, pickerel, bluegill, and bullhead are the main draws. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire ring, and the surrounding forest offers walking trails directly from the campground.
Day trips reach Keuka and Canandaigua lakes, area wineries, Watkins Glen, Letchworth State Park, and the Corning Museum of Glass.

The main RV season in this part of New York runs from May through early October. Stony Brook State Park's campground typically opens in mid-May and operates through early October, with 88 campsites and eight rustic four-person cabins in the woodlands above the gorge. Private parks like Holiday Hill and Tamarack generally open in spring and stay open into the fall shoulder season.
Summer is peak. Weekends in July and August fill first, particularly the creek-side sites at Stony Brook and lakeside spots at Lake Demmon. Booking several weeks ahead is standard, and holiday weekends often carry minimum-stay requirements.
Fall brings cool nights, foliage, and quieter campgrounds through early October. Cohocton hosts a Fall Foliage Festival that draws visitors in autumn. Winter closes most facilities: at Stony Brook, the South Entrance, playgrounds, and hiking trails shut down until the following spring after cleanup and safety inspections are complete.
How to book a campsite near Cohocton
Stony Brook State Park uses the New York State Parks reservation system through ReserveAmerica. Campsites can be booked up to nine months in advance for a one-night minimum stay, and same-day reservations are accepted until 3 p.m. on the arrival date. Reservations can also be made by phone through the ReserveAmerica call center. Walk-ins are permitted on campsites only.
Private campgrounds handle their own bookings. Stetson's Tumble Hill Campground, Holiday Hill Campground, Tamarack Campgrounds, and Lake Demmon Recreation Area accept reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Full-hookup sites and cabins at the private parks are limited and tend to book earliest for summer weekends, so lock in dates as far ahead as possible.
What to expect
Terrain is rolling to hilly, with wooded campgrounds sitting between roughly 1,300 and 1,800 feet elevation. Expect cool evenings even in midsummer and pack layers. Cell coverage is inconsistent in the valleys; most private parks offer Wi-Fi, but state park connectivity is limited.
Hookup availability varies. Private parks in the area offer 30-amp electric with water, and many sites include sewer. Lake Demmon Recreation Area accommodates rigs to about 40 feet with 30-amp electric and water hookups and a sanitary dump. Stony Brook State Park has no electric hookups and no electric cabins; sites are back-ins scattered through wooded loops, with a centralized dump station and posted generator hours from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Bears are present in the region. Store food and trash securely, and confirm firewood rules on arrival, as bringing outside wood is discouraged to prevent pest spread.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cohocton,%20New%20YorkWhat do I need to rent an RV in Cohocton, NY?
Good news, the requirements are simple. To rent an RV in Cohocton you just need to be 25 or older with a valid driver's license, no special RV endorsement or commercial driver's license (CDL) is required in New York State for personal motorhomes or travel trailers under standard weight limits. You'll verify your ID right through the RVezy platform during booking, so there are no trips to a DMV office. Visiting from outside the U.S.? An International Driving Permit (IDP) paired with your home license is all you need. Most first-time renters are surprised how quickly they're approved and out exploring the Cohocton River valley.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/get-driver-licenseIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included in Cohocton?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Cohocton includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right in, so you can hit Route 415 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV and provides liability coverage during your trip. During checkout you will choose the protection level that fits your trip: higher tiers lower your out-of-pocket responsibility if something happens. Combined with around-the-clock roadside help, your motorhome rental Cohocton experience is genuinely worry-free, even if you have never driven anything bigger than a minivan.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat is the cancellation policy if my Cohocton RV trip plans change?
You can book your Cohocton RV trip with confidence. RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy, and it includes a money-back grace period right after booking so you are not locked in the moment you confirm. After that window, the refund amount depends on how close you are to your trip start date and which cancellation tier applies to your booking. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or issues travel credit so your plans are protected. Full details are on the RVezy Help Center, but the bottom line is simple: there is flexibility built into every reservation, so go ahead and lock in your dates.

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Cohocton options are easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see listings from hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Once on the road, you have great choices: New York State Parks allow pets at most campsites with proof of current rabies vaccination, and nearby Stony Brook State Park in Dansville and Letchworth State Park both have dog-friendly trails. Pro tip: pack a copy of your dog's rabies certificate in the glovebox, the state campground rangers will ask to see it at check-in.
parks.ny.gov/recreation/dogs/default.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Cohocton?
Yes, RV delivery Cohocton is one of the most popular options on the platform, especially for first-timers and groups already towing boats or kayaks. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who will drive the RV directly to your campsite at Stony Brook State Park, a Finger Lakes campground, or a private property in the Cohocton, Atlanta, or Wayland area. Your host levels the rig, hooks up water and electric, walks you through every system, and picks it back up at the end of your trip, no towing, no backing in, no stress. Delivery fees are usually based on round-trip mileage from the host's home base, and many hosts offer free or reduced delivery within a set radius.

Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with additional miles available for roughly $0.30 to $0.50 each, and a growing number now offer RV rental with unlimited mileage: look for the listing detail under each RV's pricing section. From Cohocton you can reach Watkins Glen State Park in about 50 miles, Letchworth State Park (the Grand Canyon of the East) in about 35 miles, Niagara Falls in about 110 miles, and the Adirondacks in roughly 4 hours. Pro tip: if you are planning a bigger loop like an RV road trip from Cohocton up to the Thousand Islands, message the host before booking and ask about a custom unlimited-mileage rate.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cohocton,%20New%20YorkWhat are the best campgrounds near Cohocton, NY for RVs?

parks.ny.gov/parks/stonybrookWhen is the best time of year for an RV rental in Cohocton, NY?
Late May through mid-October is prime time for RV camping Cohocton, with July and August being the warmest at average highs around 80°F and comfortable lows in the upper 50s. June is a sweet spot: long daylight, wildflowers, and fewer crowds at the Finger Lakes wineries. September and early October bring spectacular fall foliage, the Cohocton Fall Foliage Festival happens in early October, and crisp days perfect for hiking Stony Brook gorge. Winters are genuinely cold (January highs near 30°F, lows in the mid-teens, and significant snowfall), so most local campgrounds close by late October or early November. Pro tip: book July weekends 4 to 6 months out, they sell fast.
weather.gov/buf/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting in Cohocton?
You'll be just fine, first time renting an RV is exactly what the RVezy model is built for. Every host gives you a thorough walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, slide-outs, water, propane, generator, and waste tanks before you ever turn the key, and they're a text away during your trip. Cohocton itself is ideal beginner territory: wide rural roads, light traffic on Route 415 and I-390, gentle terrain, and plenty of straight country highways to get comfortable before tackling anything bigger. Choose a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer for your first trip, they handle like a large van or pickup. Many local hosts also offer delivery so you can skip driving altogether.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-licenseWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Cohocton trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy rental in Cohocton includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so whether you have a flat on Route 21 near Naples, a dead battery at a Stony Brook State Park trailhead, or a lockout at a Finger Lakes campground, one phone call gets help dispatched. The roadside team handles tire changes, jump starts, towing, lockouts, and fuel delivery. Your host is also just a text away in the RVezy app for quick troubleshooting questions about how a system works. Pro tip: snap photos of the propane shutoff, breaker panel, and water pump switch during your walkthrough so you can troubleshoot the easy stuff yourself.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Cohocton RV rental to Canada or other states?
Cross-border and interstate travel are both very doable. Cohocton sits about 2.5 hours from the Niagara Falls border crossing, and many RVezy hosts allow Canadian travel, you'll just need to confirm with the host before booking so they can verify insurance coverage extends across the border. Interstate travel within the U.S. is standard on virtually all rentals, so popular routes like Cohocton to Acadia National Park (Maine, about 10 hours), Cohocton to Washington D.C. (6.5 hours), or a Finger Lakes loop through Watkins Glen, Ithaca, and Cayuga Lake are all fair game. Important note: travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental due to insurance limitations. Bring your passport for Canada trips.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for in Cohocton?
RV fuel costs in the Cohocton area are very manageable. Expect roughly 8-10 mpg for a Class A motorhome, 10-14 mpg for a Class C, 18-22 mpg for a campervan rental Cohocton (Class B), and your tow vehicle's normal mpg minus 25-30% for a travel trailer. New York gas prices typically run about $0.30-$0.50 above the national average, and there are plenty of large fuel stops along I-390 and Route 15 that fit big rigs, including the Pilot Travel Center in Bath and the Mobil/Sunoco stations in Wayland. Pro tip: download the GasBuddy app and fill up in Pennsylvania (about 45 minutes south near Painted Post) on your way home for noticeably cheaper fuel.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Cohocton?
Booking ahead pays off, especially for the Finger Lakes summer season. New York State Park campgrounds like Stony Brook and Watkins Glen accept reservations up to 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and popular summer weekends (especially July 4th and Labor Day) sell out quickly. For private parks like Hickory Hill in Bath, aim for 2 to 3 months ahead for summer and 3 to 4 weeks for shoulder season. Pro tip: if you strike out on a sold-out state park weekend, set up a free cancellation alert on a tool like Campnab: cancellations happen constantly and you can often grab a primo site a week before your trip.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Cohocton, NY?
Driving conditions around Cohocton are some of the friendliest in New York for RVs. You'll mostly be on I-390 (a quiet, well-maintained interstate), Route 415, and Route 21, all wide rural roads with gentle grades through the rolling hills of Steuben County. Watch for two things: the steep, winding climb on Route 53 toward Naples is fun in summer but tough in rain or early snow, and lake-effect snow squalls can roll in fast from October through April. Deer are common at dawn and dusk, so ease off after sunset. Pro tip: use NY 511 (call 511 or visit 511ny.org) before any drive for real-time road conditions, construction alerts, and live traffic cameras across the region.
511ny.org/Are RVs available in Cohocton during winter for snow trips?
Yes, winter RV rental Cohocton is a real and increasingly popular option for skiers heading to nearby Swain Resort (about 25 minutes) or Bristol Mountain (about 45 minutes). Look for listings marked as four-season or winterized, these have heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, propane furnaces, and skirting options so you can run safely in cold temperatures. You will want to book a campground with shore power (30/50 amp) since most local campgrounds close seasonally: Hickory Hill in Bath sometimes has limited winter availability, or you can park at a host's private property. Pro tip: ask your host to walk you through tank antifreeze procedures and set you up with a heated water hose, it is the difference between a magical snowy trip and a frozen one.
parks.ny.gov/recreation/winter-activities/What hookups and dump stations can I expect at Cohocton-area campgrounds?
You will find solid infrastructure for RVs around Cohocton. Stony Brook State Park has electric sites plus a free dump station and potable water fill on-site for registered campers. Hickory Hill Family Camping Resort in Bath has full hookups (water, electric, sewer), a heated pool, laundry, and a camp store. For mid-trip dumps, several travel centers along I-390 in the Bath area offer public dump stations for a small fee. Pro tip: fill your fresh tank to about two-thirds before leaving the campground, full tanks add 400+ pounds and hurt your fuel economy on the hills around Naples and Wayland.
parks.ny.gov/parks/stonybrook/details.aspxWhat amenities come with a typical Cohocton RV rental?
You will be impressed by what is packed into your Cohocton rental. A typical RVezy listing in the area comes fully equipped: a queen or king bed, sleeper sofa or dinette conversion, full kitchen with fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink, indoor bathroom with toilet and shower, roof-mounted air conditioner, propane furnace, and seatbelts for all designated travel passengers. Many also include a generator, outdoor speakers, a TV with streaming setup, awning with LED lights, and a Wi-Fi hotspot (a big plus since cell coverage gets spotty in the hills near Naples and Prattsburgh). Hosts often add starter kits with linens, towels, dishes, and even camp chairs. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps 4, 6, or 8 to match your group exactly.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cohocton,%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and pickup options are available with Cohocton RV rentals?
Hosts in the Cohocton area offer a great menu of add-ons to customize your trip. Popular extras include bike racks, kayak or paddleboard rentals (perfect for Loon Lake or Lamoka Lake), portable generators, outdoor grills, fire pits, linen and kitchen kits, and pet packages. Pickup is typically at the host's home base in Cohocton, Atlanta, Wayland, or Bath, and many hosts offer delivery to your campground for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies usually start at 100 free miles per night, with options to pre-purchase extra miles at a discount. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, generator, and a linen package upfront, it is often cheaper as a combo and means you arrive to a fully ready RV.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cohocton,%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Cohocton RV rental?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book a rent an RV in Cohocton listing on RVezy, you pay through the platform using a credit or debit card, no cash ever changes hands with the host. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is held separately from your booking payment a few days before your trip and released after your return, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition. To avoid any issues, take date-stamped photos of the interior, exterior, tanks, and odometer at pickup and dropoff, and return the rig with the same fuel and propane levels. Pro tip: keep all receipts (fuel, dump fees, propane) in a folder, it makes the final walkthrough quick and easy.
