Campgrounds near Cooperstown, New York
Cooperstown sits at the southern tip of Otsego Lake in central New York, roughly 90 minutes west of Albany. The village is best known for the National Baseball Hall of Fame, but the surrounding Leatherstocking region offers lake access, rolling farmland, and forested hills that support a mix of RV parks and a state campground within a short drive of downtown.
Options range from full-hookup private parks to a lakeside state facility. Hartwick Highlands Campground, LLC, Cooperstown Beaver Valley Cabins and Campsites, Cooperstown Family Campground, and Cooperstown Deer Run Campground offer private RV sites, cabins, and family amenities. Glimmerglass State Park provides the closest public camping on the lake itself.
Most private grounds are within a ten to twenty minute drive of the Hall of Fame and the Fenimore Art Museum. Glimmerglass sits about eight miles north of the village on the east side of Otsego Lake, near the Hyde Hall historic site and the Hyde Hall Covered Bridge.
Things to do near Cooperstown
The Baseball Hall of Fame anchors most itineraries, but the village also holds the Fenimore Art Museum, the Farmers' Museum, and Ommegang Brewery on the outskirts. Otsego Lake, the "Glimmerglass" of James Fenimore Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales, supports swimming, fishing, and paddling from public access points.
At Glimmerglass State Park, campers can hike the Beaver Pond and Woodland trails, tour Hyde Hall Mansion and the Covered Bridge inside park boundaries, and launch car-top canoes or kayaks near the main campground. The park beach on Otsego Lake is staffed with lifeguards during the posted swimming season.
Summer also brings the Glimmerglass Festival opera productions on a professional schedule, plus regional wineries and a working covered-bridge circuit through Otsego County.

Camping in the Cooperstown area is a seasonal affair. Glimmerglass State Park runs its campground from mid-May through Columbus Day in October, with day-use available year-round from dawn until dusk. Most private RV parks in the area follow a similar spring-to-fall pattern, opening around early May and closing in October once overnight temperatures drop.
July and August are the peak months, with warm days, active lake use, and the highest demand tied to Hall of Fame Weekend in late July, when reservations across the region tighten sharply. Youth baseball tournaments run through the summer and also drive weekend fill-up. Late spring and early fall are quieter, with cooler nights and better site availability.
Winter transforms Glimmerglass into a cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, and ice skating destination, though the campground itself is closed and only a portable restroom is available at Beaver Pond during the off-season.

How to book a campsite
Glimmerglass State Park is booked through the New York State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica or by phone at 1-800-456-2267. Online reservations open nine months in advance, and same-day reservations are permitted until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival for campsites. A two-night minimum stay applies.
A camping party may occupy a site for a maximum of 14 continuous nights, after which the party must leave the facility for 48 hours before rebooking. Two pets per site are allowed on a leash no longer than six feet.
Private campgrounds near Cooperstown, including Hartwick Highlands Campground, LLC, Cooperstown Beaver Valley Cabins and Campsites, Cooperstown Family Campground, and Cooperstown Deer Run Campground, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For Hall of Fame Weekend, book several months out.
What to expect on-site
At Glimmerglass State Park, all sites include a picnic table, grill, and fire ring. Warm showers are available in the bathhouse, and firewood is sold in the park. New York State firewood rules restrict untreated wood to sources within a 50-mile radius, so plan to buy on-site or nearby rather than hauling from home.
Sites are generally suited to smaller rigs, with a limit of one hard-wheeled unit or two tents per site and a maximum of six people. Only a portion of the sites have electric hookups; there is no water or sewer at individual sites, but a dump station is available. Full hookups are more common at the private campgrounds around the village, which often add pools, playgrounds, and camp stores geared to families visiting the Hall of Fame.
Cell coverage is workable in the village but can be spotty in the hills outside town. Bring layers even in summer, as nights in the Otsego uplands can drop noticeably cooler than the daytime high.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Cooperstown, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Cooperstown?
RV rental in Cooperstown is often more affordable than you might expect for such a bucket-list baseball destination. On RVezy, travel trailers typically run about $80 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes range from roughly $185 to $325, and larger Class A rigs sit around $250 to $450. Prices peak during Dreams Park weeks (late May through August) and Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Weekend in late July, when bookings around Otsego Lake fill fast. For a cheap RV rental in Cooperstown, aim for early June weekdays or the September shoulder season, and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Pro tip: many Otsego County hosts offer 10 to 20 percent off stays of five nights or more, which pairs perfectly with a full Hall of Fame visit.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cooperstown,%20New%20YorkWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Cooperstown?
Great news for first time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Cooperstown. New York does not require a special class license or commercial driver's license (CDL) for any RV available on RVezy, including 35-foot Class A motorhomes and fifth wheels heading to Glimmerglass State Park. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally required to be at least 25 years old, and you'll verify your ID through the RVezy platform during checkout, which usually takes just a few minutes. Visiting from outside the United States? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto association, paired with your home country license. That's it, you're ready to pick up your motorhome rental in Cooperstown and head straight to Doubleday Field.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental in Cooperstown covered if something goes wrong on my trip?
Yes, every RV rental in Cooperstown booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan covers most damage to the vehicle during your trip, giving you real peace of mind whether you're parked at Cooperstown Beaver Valley or driving Route 28 along Otsego Lake. During booking you choose your protection level from several tiers, so you can pick coverage that matches your Cooperstown RV trip. You'll also have roadside support a phone call away if you get a flat tire heading to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Book confidently knowing the safety net is built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Cooperstown RV rental?
You can book your Cooperstown RV rental with confidence because RVezy, not individual hosts, sets the cancellation policy for every reservation. There's a money-back grace period right after booking, with additional flexibility depending on how far out from your trip start date you cancel. Plans change, kids' tournament schedules shift, and life happens, so RVezy keeps the process renter-friendly. If a host cancels on you, RVezy provides a full refund or rebooking credit so your trip plans are protected. You'll see the full policy details during checkout and in your booking confirmation, and the RVezy support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip if anything comes up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Cooperstown?
Absolutely, plenty of pet-friendly RV rental options in Cooperstown welcome your dog along for the trip. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to find hosts who allow dogs (and sometimes cats), then message the host with your pet's size and breed so check-in is smooth. Cooperstown is genuinely dog-friendly: Glimmerglass State Park allows leashed pets on most trails and at campsites (just not on the swimming beach), Cooperstown Beaver Valley has dog-friendly campsites, and the village's Lakefront Park is perfect for a morning stroll along Otsego Lake. Pro tip: bring a long lead and water bowl for the Hall of Fame area, since several local outdoor spots have dog-welcoming patios.
parks.ny.gov/parks/glimmerglassCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Cooperstown?
Yes, RV delivery in Cooperstown is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's perfect if you're flying into Albany or Syracuse for a Dreams Park week and don't want to drive a motorhome yourself. Many Otsego County hosts will deliver and set up your RV at Cooperstown Dreams Park, Cooperstown All Star Village, Shadow Brook Campground, Beaver Valley, or the Cooperstown KOA in Richfield Springs, then return at the end of your stay to pack it out. Delivery fees vary by distance, with most hosts charging a flat rate within 25 miles. To book it, filter for Delivery on RVezy, then confirm the campground address with your host. You'll arrive to a fully set-up RV with the awning out, hookups connected, and a walkthrough waiting.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cooperstown,%20New%20YorkHow far can I drive on my Cooperstown RV trip, and is unlimited mileage available?
You've got plenty of road to explore, and many Cooperstown hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer trips. Cooperstown sits in a sweet spot in central New York: Albany is about 75 miles east (around 1 hour 30 minutes), Niagara Falls is roughly 230 miles west (about 4 hours), the Catskills are around 90 miles south, the Finger Lakes wine region is 90 to 120 miles west, and New York City is approximately 200 miles south. If you're planning a big loop, message the host before booking to ask about a mileage package, which often works out cheaper than per-mile overage fees. Pro tip: a 350-mile Finger Lakes round trip from Cooperstown easily fits in a long weekend.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cooperstown,%20New%20YorkWhat are the best campgrounds near Cooperstown for an RV?
You're spoiled for choice on RV camping in Cooperstown, with everything from lakeside state park sites to family resorts catering to Dreams Park crowds. Top picks: Glimmerglass State Park Campground on the northeast shore of Otsego Lake (about 8 miles from the village, with electric sites and beach access); Cooperstown Beaver Valley Cabins and Campsites on 276 acres with full hookups and a heated pool, about 10 minutes from the Hall of Fame; Cooperstown Shadow Brook Campground with large pull-throughs that fit big rigs with slides; Cooperstown KOA Journey in Richfield Springs, just off US-20 with long level sites; and Meadow-Vale Campsites near Gilbert Lake State Park. Pro tip: book Glimmerglass nine months ahead for July and August weekends, they sell out fast.
parks.ny.gov/parks/glimmerglassWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip to Cooperstown?
The sweet spot for a Cooperstown RV trip is mid-May through mid-October, with each window offering something special. Summer (June to August) brings warm 75 to 82 degree days, the Glimmerglass Festival opera season in July and August, Hall of Fame Induction Weekend in late July, and busy Dreams Park tournaments, so expect lively campgrounds and book early. September and early October are the local insider's choice: leaf-peeping along Route 80 around Otsego Lake is genuinely spectacular, daytime highs sit in the comfortable 60s, and campgrounds quiet down. May is cool (50s to 60s) and quieter still. Most private campgrounds close after Columbus Day weekend, while Glimmerglass State Park camping typically runs spring through fall. For families, late June hits the perfect balance of weather and pre-tournament calm.
weather.gov/bgm/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay picking one up in Cooperstown?
You'll do great, and first time renting an RV in Cooperstown is honestly one of the easier places to learn. The roads around Otsego County (Route 28, Route 80, US-20) are well-maintained two-lane country highways with light traffic outside tournament peaks, no city congestion, and gentle rolling hills rather than steep mountain grades. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering the awning, hookups, holding tanks, propane, and slide-outs, plus tips specific to driving their rig. If you're nervous, start with a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental in Cooperstown, or book delivery so the host sets everything up for you at the campground. The 24/7 roadside support line is in your glove box if you ever need a hand.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat happens if I break down or have a problem during my Cooperstown RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether you have a flat tire on Route 28 between Cooperstown and Oneonta, a dead battery at Glimmerglass State Park, or a lockout at the Hall of Fame parking lot, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also a message away through the RVezy app for quick questions like operating the generator or finding the propane shutoff. Cell service is generally reliable around Cooperstown, Richfield Springs, and along the I-88 corridor, though it can get patchy on back roads near Cherry Valley. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the host's driveway, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate for fast service.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trips from Cooperstown?
Cooperstown is a fantastic launchpad for an RV road trip in upstate New York. Top routes: head about 90 miles west to the Finger Lakes wine country (Seneca and Cayuga Lakes, plus Watkins Glen State Park's gorge trail); drive roughly 100 miles north into the southern Adirondacks for Lake George and Old Forge; loop 75 miles east to Albany and the Hudson Valley; or roll about 90 miles south into the Catskills for hiking around Hunter and Phoenicia. Cross-border travel into Canada is possible on some RVezy rentals, but you must confirm with the host before booking since not every listing is approved for international travel. Travel to Mexico is not permitted. Pro tip: a 5-day Cooperstown to Niagara Falls to Finger Lakes loop is one of the best New York RV trips going.
iloveny.com/What should I budget for fuel on a Cooperstown RV rental?
Fuel is very manageable on a Cooperstown RV trip thanks to short distances between attractions. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for Class A motorhomes, 10 to 14 MPG for Class C, 15 to 20 MPG for campervans, and 12 to 16 MPG for trucks pulling travel trailers. Regular unleaded around Cooperstown and Otsego County typically tracks slightly above the New York state average, with stations in Oneonta (about 20 miles south on I-88) and Richfield Springs usually offering the best prices. A typical week of driving around Cooperstown (300 to 400 miles) runs roughly $120 to $200 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Oneonta or off I-88 rather than the village stations, where prices tend to be higher due to tourist demand.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a Cooperstown campground?
For a smooth Cooperstown RV trip, book your campground as early as you book your RV, especially for summer. Glimmerglass State Park opens reservations nine months in advance through New York State Parks on ReserveAmerica, and prime summer weekends (Memorial Day, July 4, Induction Weekend, Labor Day) often sell out within hours. Private campgrounds like Cooperstown Shadow Brook, Beaver Valley, and the KOA accept bookings up to a year out, and Dreams Park tournament weeks (late May through August) fill 6 to 12 months ahead because of baseball families. For September shoulder season, 4 to 6 weeks of lead time is usually plenty. Pro tip: check Glimmerglass for same-day availability on quieter weekdays if you're feeling spontaneous.
parks.ny.gov/parks/glimmerglassWhat are driving conditions like around Cooperstown for an RV?
Driving an RV around Cooperstown is genuinely relaxed compared to most US destinations. The main approaches (I-88 from the south, I-90 to the north, US-20 east-west, and Route 28 into the village) are well-paved with gentle grades, and there are no low bridges or tunnels on the standard routes. Inside the village itself, Main Street is narrow with on-street parking, so larger Class A and fifth wheel rigs should park at the trolley lots at the edge of town and ride the Cooperstown Trolley in (it runs in the summer season). Winter brings snow and ice from late November through March, so most leisure RV travel happens May through October. Pro tip: take it slow on Route 80 along the lake right after heavy rain, the shoulders can soften.
dot.ny.gov/traffic/road-and-travel-infoWhat hookups and amenities can I expect at Cooperstown campgrounds?
You'll find strong infrastructure across Cooperstown area campgrounds. Cooperstown Beaver Valley, Shadow Brook, and the Cooperstown KOA all offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30 and 50 amp electric), WiFi, hot showers, laundry, dump stations, and propane refills on-site. Glimmerglass State Park has electric service at most sites, warm showers, and a centralized dump station, though no sewer hookups at individual sites. For filling fresh water along the way, every full-service campground above has potable spigots, and most private parks offer a public dump station seasonally even if you're not staying. Pro tip: if you're staying at Glimmerglass for a week, plan a mid-trip dump and freshwater fill, since the no-sewer sites mean managing your tanks proactively.
parks.ny.gov/parks/glimmerglassWhat's inside a typical Cooperstown RV rental?
You're getting a real home on wheels. Most Cooperstown RV rentals on RVezy come fully equipped: a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette and sofa sleepers (sleeping 4 to 8 people), a full kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, fridge and freezer, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with roof air conditioning and propane furnace (a must for chilly Otsego Lake mornings), and seatbelts for safe travel. Class C and Class A motorhomes typically include a TV, and many newer rigs have onboard generators plus solar. Most hosts also include a starter kit with linens, towels, kitchenware, and a fresh sewer hose. Pro tip: message your host to confirm WiFi or hotspot availability if you're working remotely from your Cooperstown campsite, since campground WiFi can slow during busy weeks.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cooperstown,%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and extras can I get with my Cooperstown RV rental?
You can customize your Cooperstown RV trip with all kinds of useful add-ons. Common host extras include bike racks (typically $25 to $50 per trip, great for the village waterfront paths), camp chairs and outdoor tables, propane fire pits, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards (perfect for Otsego Lake from Glimmerglass beach), generators, BBQ grills, linen and towel packages, and pet kits. Pickup and dropoff is typically at the host's home base in Otsego County, but delivery to Cooperstown Dreams Park, Beaver Valley, or the KOA is available from many hosts for a flat fee. Mileage allowances vary by listing, so check the listing page or message the host. Pro tip: bundle bikes plus a kayak, then base at Glimmerglass for a full lake-and-trails day without driving anywhere.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cooperstown,%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work on an RVezy rental in Cooperstown?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through the secure RVezy platform, no cash or checks change hands with the host. You'll pay your booking total (rental fee, service fee, protection plan, and any selected add-ons) by credit card when you book, with some longer trips eligible for a split-payment option. A refundable security deposit is held on your card shortly before pickup, then released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape, typically within a few days of trip end. To avoid deposit issues, do the pre-trip walkthrough with your host (photos help), follow the mileage and pet policies on the listing, and return the RV with the agreed fuel and tank levels. Pro tip: snap a quick video at pickup and dropoff, it's the best protection for everyone.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV in Cooperstown village itself?
Great question, and the answer is simple: park at the edges of the village and ride the trolley in. Cooperstown's Main Street is charming but narrow, so the village runs trolley parking lots (such as the Red Lot on Route 28 south, the Yellow Lot on Glen Avenue, and the Blue Lot at Maple Street) where RVs can park during the day, then catch the Cooperstown Trolley to the Baseball Hall of Fame, Doubleday Field, and Otsego Lake. The trolley runs during the summer season. Overnight RV parking in the village is not permitted, so plan to sleep at a campground like Glimmerglass, Beaver Valley, or Shadow Brook. Pro tip: the Red Lot is closest to the Hall of Fame if you want the shortest walk after stepping off the trolley.
