Campgrounds and RV parks near Crown Heights, NY

Crown Heights is a hamlet in the Town of Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County, sitting in the mid-Hudson Valley about 90 miles north of New York City. It is part of the Poughkeepsie-Newburgh metropolitan area within the larger New York-Newark region, which makes it a practical base for RV renters coming out of the city or lower Connecticut. Most camping options sit within a 30-minute to one-hour drive, in the wooded ridges of the Hudson Highlands and along the river itself. Closer to town, private parks such as New York City North / Newburgh KOA Holiday, Sylvan Lake Beach Park Inc, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lazy River cater to families with hookups and on-site amenities. For a state-park experience, Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park runs along the Hudson in Staatsburg, and Pelton Pond - Clarence Fahnestock State Park sits south of Crown Heights in the Highlands. Clarence Fahnestock covers more than 14,000 acres of forest across Putnam and Dutchess counties, roughly an hour north of New York City, giving RV travelers a genuine forest setting close to the metro area.

New York State Parks, including Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park and Pelton Pond - Clarence Fahnestock State Park, are booked through the state's ReserveAmerica system online or by phone. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance at both parks, and same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival. Note that the main Fahnestock campground is closed for 2026, so only the Group Wilderness Campground is bookable, by calling the park office directly. Private parks such as New York City North / Newburgh KOA Holiday, Sylvan Lake Beach Park Inc, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lazy River book directly through their own websites or phone lines. Holiday weekends, especially Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day, sell out first, followed by fall-foliage Saturdays. Midweek stays are easier to secure and generally quieter.
