Gilbert Lake State Park, one of the closest state-run campgrounds, is located about 12 miles north of Oneonta and 18 miles southwest of Cooperstown, and lies within an easy drive of Edmeston. Small private campgrounds and lake resorts fill in the gaps between the state park system and the region's main tourist draws.
Options range from full-service resorts to quieter, wooded sites. Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Cooperstown offers a family-focused RV park with pool and lake amenities, while Hilltop - Gilbert Lake State Park provides a more traditional state-park experience. Meadow-Vale Campsites, Scenic View Campground, and Lake Chalet Motel and Campground round out the nearby choices with smaller, less-programmed settings.
The area has a humid continental climate marked by cold, snowy winters, mild summers, and precipitation spread relatively evenly throughout the year, which shapes when parks open and how sites book up.
Things to do near Edmeston
Cooperstown anchors most trip itineraries. The village is home to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the Farmers' Museum, and Otsego Lake, all within a short drive of area campgrounds. Other regional draws include Howe Caverns, Hanford Mills Museum, and the New York State Civilian Conservation Corps Museum at Gilbert Lake.
On-park recreation is strong at Gilbert Lake State Park. The park's lake and three ponds lie in wooded, hilly terrain, and more than 12 miles of interconnecting trails serve hikers, skiers, snowmobilers, and snowshoers. The park also offers a disc golf course, playgrounds, a guarded swimming beach, boat rentals, and fishing.
Private resorts add family programming. Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Cooperstown includes a pool and lake activities, while Meadow-Vale Campsites features a swimming pool, fishing pond, boat rentals, arcade, playground, disc golf, and a hiking trail.

How to book campgrounds near Edmeston
State park sites are booked through the New York State Parks reservation system operated by ReserveAmerica. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, so summer weekends are best locked in early. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival for campsites only, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only. Bookings can also be made by phone through the ReserveAmerica Call Center.
Cabins at Gilbert Lake require a 7 or 14-night minimum stay all season, with some cabins on a Sunday-to-Sunday cycle and others on a Saturday-to-Saturday cycle. A camping party may occupy a site for a maximum of 14 continuous nights.
Private campgrounds such as Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Cooperstown, Meadow-Vale Campsites, Scenic View Campground, and Lake Chalet Motel and Campground book directly through their own websites or by phone.
What to expect when RV camping near Edmeston
Expect rural, wooded terrain with rolling hills and limited services once campers leave the main highways. Cell service at Gilbert Lake State Park is very poor, and coverage is spotty across much of the surrounding countryside, so travelers should download maps and reservation confirmations in advance.

There are no sewer hookups at individual sites, but a dump station near the entrance to Deer Run also serves as a place to fill water tanks. Sites can accommodate rigs up to about 50 feet and are back-in only.
Quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., smoking is not permitted in cabins, and generators may be used only between 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
