Campgrounds and RV parks near Fillmore, NY

Letchworth State Park is the anchor attraction. Visitors can choose among 66 miles of trails used for hiking, biking, horseback riding, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing, and view the three major waterfalls on the Genesee River. The park pool is projected to open in late June and run through Labor Day, and hot-air balloon rides and whitewater rafting operate from park concessioners in warm months. Off-park activities include catch-and-release fishing at the Houghton / Letchworth KOA pond, paddling the Genesee River, and short drives to Wiscoy Falls, about 10 miles from Houghton, which offer a chance to experience waterfalls up close. Moss Lake Nature Sanctuary, only 4 miles from Houghton, offers a peaceful nature walk around a peat bog with wildlife, and the surrounding Amish country around Centerville and Fillmore has farm stands and craft shops.

The Letchworth-area camping season runs from mid-May through mid-October. Most private parks nearby follow a similar warm-season window and shut down for the deep winter. At Houghton / Letchworth KOA, both the indoor and outdoor pools operate from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. July and August are peak. Weekends fill fast, holiday weekends fill fastest, and during peak season, cabin reservations require a minimum of 7 nights beginning on either Saturday or Sunday. Late spring and early fall bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and reliable access to waterfalls swollen by snowmelt or autumn rain. Fall foliage typically peaks in the first two weeks of October. Winter is largely off-limits for RV camping. Snow, lake-effect squalls off Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, and campground closures push most activity to day-use, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing at the state park. Note that shower building construction is reducing campsite availability from summer 2026 through spring 2027, with loops 100 and 200 open for the full season while other loops see phased closures.

Terrain in this part of the Southern Tier is rolling farmland cut by deep river gorges. Roads into campgrounds can be narrow and hilly, and some GPS routings send drivers down dirt roads in the area because it is a shorter distance, and the KOA warns campers not to follow those directions. Cell service is spotty in the park, and the service in the south end is very limited. Letchworth offers tent and trailer sites with electrical hookups in both 30 and 50 amp options depending on site selection, with a shared dump station, but no individual sewer or water connections at the sites. Private parks around Fillmore, including the KOA, offer more full-hookup options plus laundry, Wi-Fi, and pools. Expect deer, black flies and mosquitoes in early summer, and cool nights even in July. Bring layers, bug spray, and a rain plan.
