Campgrounds and RV parks near Fort Montgomery, NY

Fort Montgomery sits on the west bank of the Hudson River at the northern edge of Bear Mountain State Park, directly across from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. The area gives RV travelers access to two large state park systems (Palisades Interstate and Taconic) plus private parks in the surrounding Orange, Rockland, and Dutchess county corridor. Most stays are within roughly 25 miles of the George Washington Bridge, making this a common weekend base for travelers coming out of New York City. Beaver Pond Campground - Harriman State Park is the closest public option, set inside a 46,000-acre park adjacent to Lake Welch. Pelton Pond - Clarence Fahnestock State Park sits across the river in Putnam County. New York City North / Newburgh KOA Holiday, Sylvan Lake Beach Park Inc, and Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Lazy River round out the nearby private parks with full-hookup and family-focused options. Expect a mix of rustic state-park sites and full-service private resorts within a short drive of the village.

Public sites in the Palisades and Taconic regions, including Beaver Pond and Pelton Pond, are booked through the New York State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Camping reservations can be made up to nine months in advance. From March 15 through Labor Day, new sites open at 8 a.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday; the rest of the year, sites open at 9 a.m. daily. Same-day campsite reservations are permitted until 3 p.m., and walk-ins are allowed after that, subject to availability. Private parks such as the Newburgh KOA, Sylvan Lake Beach Park, and the Jellystone Park Lazy River resort book directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends, plan on reserving several months out; last-minute cancellations do surface, so it is worth checking back in the week before a trip.
