Camping near Green Island, New York
Green Island is a small village in Albany County on the west bank of the Hudson River, just north of Albany. It sits within the Capital Region, giving RV travelers quick highway access to camping in Rensselaer County, the Taconic Valley, and the Saratoga area. Most nearby campgrounds are private family resorts, with a state park option about an hour east.
Adventure Bound Deer Run in Schaghticoke is the largest option in the area, a wooded family resort roughly 20 minutes from Saratoga Springs with a splash-style water park and more than 500 RV and tent sites. Alps Family Campground in Averill Park and Broken Wheel Campground in Petersburg round out the private choices, both offering hookup sites within easy driving distance of Albany and Troy.
For a quieter, publicly managed alternative, Cherry Plain State Park sits in the Taconic Valley on Black River Pond, with 30 sites in a 175-acre park. Together these campgrounds cover most travel styles: resort-style family stays, mid-size private parks, and a low-key state campground.
Things to do near Green Island
On-site activities vary widely by campground. Adventure Bound Deer Run centers around Pirate's Cove Water Park with waterslides and a large splash pad, plus heated pools and the Adventure Bound Express train ride. Alps Family Campground offers a heated pool, hiking trails, a fishing pond, basketball and softball areas, horseshoe pits, weekend hay rides, and themed weekends through the summer. Broken Wheel Campground has a pool, playground, and a recreation hall with ping pong, pool table, and arcade games.
Off-site, Cherry Plain State Park has a sandy swim beach on Black River Pond, rowboat and paddle boat rentals, and multi-use trails good for hiking and biking. Day trips from Green Island reach downtown Albany, historic Troy, Saratoga Springs, Grafton Lakes State Park, and the Berkshires and Bennington across the state lines.

The Capital Region has a humid continental climate with large seasonal swings. Summers are warm and wet with most rain arriving via thunderstorms, and winters are cold and snowy, with Albany often staying below freezing all day in January and about a third of days in December and February.
Private campgrounds run a standard northeast season. Adventure Bound Deer Run operates from mid-April through mid-October. Alps Family Campground runs May 1 through October 15, and welcomes self-contained RVs outside those dates on a limited basis. Broken Wheel Campground is open seasonally from May through October.
Cherry Plain State Park is a warm-weather campground: the campground operates from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and outside those dates the park pivots to day use, with hiking, biking, and nature trails doubling as cross-country ski trails in winter. Peak demand runs late June through Labor Day, and holiday weekends at every campground book out well in advance.

The trailer was exactly as pictured. Brandon was a pleasure to deal with , had everything ready for pickup and did a great job giving us setup and use instructions. I would definitely recommend and rent this Rockwood A frame trailer again .

We had a great experience renting from Krystal and her husband. They were responsive, helpful, and very accommodating from start to finish. The camper was a perfect solution for hosting our out-of-town guests and provided the extra space we needed. We would gladly rent from them again in the future.

How to book campgrounds near Green Island
New York State Parks use ReserveAmerica. For Cherry Plain State Park, reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica call center at 1-800-456-2267, up to 9 months in advance. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only.
Private campgrounds book directly through the operator. Adventure Bound Deer Run takes reservations through its own site and by phone, and Alps Family Campground requires advanced reservations for its May through October season. Broken Wheel Campground also books through the operator. For summer weekends and holidays, secure sites weeks or months out; midweek and shoulder-season stays are much easier to grab on shorter notice.
What to expect on-site
Site styles vary. Adventure Bound Deer Run accommodates RVs up to 45 feet with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer, and offers pull-through sites plus deluxe and rustic cabin rentals. Alps Family Campground has a mix of pull-through and back-in sites, with water and electric on all sites and sewer on many, plus a camping cabin, gift shop, laundromat, free hot showers, dump station, and an activity pavilion.
Broken Wheel Campground offers 20, 30, and 50 amp electric with water hookups and a dump station, and accepts big rigs, though sites sit fairly close together. Cherry Plain State Park is more rustic: 30 sites split between 10 trailer sites, 10 lakeside tent sites, and 10 hike-in tent sites, with modern restrooms and showers. Pets are allowed at the state park with a two-pet limit, current rabies proof, and a 6-foot leash.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Green Island, NY?
Renting an RV in Green Island, NY is more affordable than many travelers expect. Motorhome rentals in the Capital Region typically range from about $175 to $250 per night, while travel trailers and fifth wheels often run $90 to $150 per night, and many hosts offer weekly or monthly discounts. For a cheap RV rental in Green Island, try booking midweek in May or late September when demand around Albany dips, and use the Instant Book filter to spot quick-confirm deals. Pro tip: a delivered travel trailer set up at a nearby campground often beats a drivable motorhome on total cost once you factor in fuel along I-87.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Green%20Island%2C%20New%20YorkWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Green Island, NY?
Good news: a standard New York State driver's license (Class D) is all you need to rent an RV in Green Island, NY. No commercial license or special RV endorsement is required for motorhomes or trailers on the RVezy platform, including Class A coaches. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID securely during the booking flow, so there's no paperwork to print or notarize. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Pair your home license with an International Driving Permit and you're ready to roll. Most first-time renters say the hardest part is choosing which Adirondack route to take first.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental in Green Island, NY protected if something goes wrong?
Every RV rental in Green Island, NY booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. During checkout you choose your level of coverage (you, not the host, select it), and the plan covers most accidental damage to the RV while you're on your trip. It isn't traditional auto insurance, but it's purpose-built for peer-to-peer RV trips and addresses the situations that worry first-timers most, from a scraped awning to a flat tire. That safety net is a big reason renters feel confident booking a motorhome rental in Green Island, even on their very first trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Green Island RV trip?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy across the platform (hosts don't), and your refund eligibility depends on how far ahead of your trip start date you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or helps you rebook so your trip stays on track. RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after your trip if anything unexpected comes up, which matters in upstate New York where a nor'easter or ice storm can occasionally rearrange plans. Lock in the RV you love now, and finalize the route to Lake George later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Green Island, NY?
Absolutely, the pup is part of the trip. Just select the Pet-Friendly filter when you search for a pet-friendly RV rental in Green Island, NY and you'll see listings from hosts who welcome dogs. Once you're rolling, you have great tail-wagging options nearby: the leash-friendly trails at Peebles Island State Park (about 5 minutes north), Albany's Westland Hills off-leash dog park, and dog-welcoming campsites at Schodack Island State Park along the Hudson. Pro tip: message your host before booking to confirm any pet fee, and bring a crate or seatbelt harness for safe travel on I-787.
parks.ny.gov/parks/peeblesisland/details.aspxCan the RV be delivered to me in Green Island or a nearby campground?
Yes, RV delivery in Green Island is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters who'd rather skip driving a 30-foot rig through the Capital Region. Many Green Island and Albany-area hosts will tow or drive the RV to your chosen campground (Schodack Island, Thompson's Lake, and Lake George area parks are common drop spots), level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter to see hosts who offer it, then message to confirm the fee, which is typically based on mileage from their location. Show up, unpack, light the fire pit, done.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Green%20Island%2C%20New%20YorkHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Green Island, NY?
Plenty of road awaits. Green Island sits near the crossroads of I-87 and I-90, putting some of the Northeast's best scenery within easy reach: Lake George is about 55 miles north (roughly 1 hour), the Catskills' North-South Lake area is around 60 miles south (about 90 minutes), Saratoga Springs is roughly 30 miles north, the Adirondack High Peaks near Lake Placid are about 130 miles, and Vermont's Green Mountains are around 90 miles east. Each host sets their own mileage policy, with some offering unlimited mileage and others including a daily allotment plus a per-mile rate after that. Filter for RV rental with unlimited mileage if you're planning a big loop, and confirm the policy in the listing details before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Green%20Island%2C%20New%20YorkWhere are the best campgrounds near Green Island, NY?

Thompson's Lake Campground in the Helderbergs (about 35 minutes west) has a sandy swim beach and quiet wooded sites. Lake George Escape and Lake George RV Park (about an hour north) are classic family picks with pools and full hookups. newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/When is the best time of year for a Green Island RV trip?

June and early July bring warm days typically in the upper 70s to mid-80s°F and long evenings perfect for Hudson River sunsets. Winters here are cold and snowy, but a properly winterized RV can handle a December trip if you're up for an adventure.
weather.gov/aly/I've never driven an RV before, what should I expect?
First time renting an RV? You're in great company, and Green Island is a friendly launchpad. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering the generator, slides, propane, leveling, tanks, and hookups before you drive away, so you're never figuring it out on the shoulder of I-787. If you want to skip city driving entirely, choose a host who delivers to your campground and sets it up for you. For practice, the wide, flat stretches of Route 9 north toward Halfmoon are a good warmup before tackling the Northway. Most renters tell us their nerves disappear within the first 20 miles.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I have an RV breakdown or issue near Green Island?
You're never on your own. Every RV rental in Green Island, NY includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the RVezy protection plan, covering flats, lockouts, jump-starts, and tows whether you're parked on Tibbits Avenue or partway up the Adirondack Northway. One call connects you to dispatch and they coordinate the nearest service provider, often a partner in the Albany, Troy, or Latham area. Your host is also a quick message away through the RVezy app for questions about how a specific system works, and RVezy's support team backs everything up. Pack a flashlight and a phone charger, then stop worrying.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Green Island RV rental into Canada or Vermont?
Yes to nearby states, and often yes to Canada with advance approval. Crossing into Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, or New Hampshire on your RV rental in New York is generally straightforward, and a road trip from Green Island to the Green Mountains (about 1.5 hours) or the Berkshires (about 1 hour) is a renter favorite. Crossing into Canada (Montreal is about 3.5 hours up I-87) is allowed by many hosts but requires host approval and updated insurance paperwork, so message the host before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Bring your passport for any border crossing and you're set for a true international RV adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Green Island?
Fuel is the biggest variable cost, and the good news is upstate New York is well served with stations. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 MPG, Class A coaches 6 to 10 MPG, and a truck towing a travel trailer around 10 to 14 MPG. Regular gas around Green Island and Albany generally runs in line with the New York state average, with diesel slightly higher; truck stops along I-87 and the Pilot/Flying J in Schodack are convenient fill-ups before heading north or south. A typical 4-day loop to Lake George and back (around 250 miles) often runs roughly $90 to $150 in fuel depending on your RV and current prices. Use GasBuddy or similar apps to spot the cheapest pumps along your route.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Green Island?
For summer weekends, book your campsite as soon as you book your RV. New York State Parks like Schodack Island, Thompson's Lake, and Moreau Lake open reservations 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and prime July and August Saturdays at Lake George area campgrounds can fill within hours of going live. Private parks like Alps Family Campground and the Lake George RV resorts take bookings year-round and typically have midweek availability even in peak season. Pro tip: if your schedule is flexible, Sunday-through-Thursday stays around Green Island are dramatically easier to grab and often noticeably cheaper, plus you'll have the Hudson River trails practically to yourself.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Green Island, NY?
Driving here is manageable with a little planning. Green Island sits between I-787 and the Hudson, with quick access to I-87 (the Northway) and I-90, all wide, well-maintained interstates that handle big rigs comfortably. The trick is avoiding rush hour on I-787 through downtown Albany (roughly 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. on weekdays) and watching for low clearances on older bridges in Troy and Cohoes, where some underpasses sit around 11 to 12 feet, so know your RV's height before turning off the highway. Winter brings real snow and ice from December through March; check 511NY for road conditions before you roll. Otherwise, it's smooth cruising.
511ny.org/What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Green Island?
Local campgrounds are well equipped for any RV rental in New York. Most private parks around Green Island (Alps Family Campground and Lake George area resorts among them) offer full hookups with 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer, Wi-Fi in many spots, dump stations, hot showers, and laundry. State parks like Schodack Island and Thompson's Lake typically offer electric at the site with a centralized dump station and potable water fill near the entrance, so plan to dump on your way out. Pro tip: keep a 25-foot fresh-water hose and a 30-to-50-amp adapter on board to fit just about any setup.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What's actually inside the RVs I'll see in Green Island listings?
More than you'd guess. A typical campervan rental Green Island travelers book includes a queen or convertible bed, a kitchenette with fridge, stove, and sink, and indoor seating. Class C motorhome rentals in Green Island step it up with sleeping for 6 to 8 (cab-over bunk, dinette conversion, rear queen), a full bathroom with shower and toilet, roof A/C, propane heat, microwave, generator, and seatbelted travel seats for every passenger. Travel trailers and fifth wheels often add slide-outs, outdoor kitchens, and larger holding tanks. Many hosts include linens, kitchenware, and a starter kit of essentials. Filter by Sleeps to match your group, and check each listing for Wi-Fi hotspot, TV, and generator details.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Green%20Island%2C%20New%20YorkCan I add extras like a generator, bike rack, or one-way trip?
Yes, hosts in Green Island offer a great range of add-ons to customize your trip. Common options include outdoor camping kits (chairs, table, grill), bike or kayak racks, generators with extra fuel, portable Wi-Fi hotspots, linen and kitchen packages, and even propane fire pits, each priced and listed right on the host's page. Pickup is usually at the host's location in Green Island or a nearby Capital Region town, with delivery to your campground often available for a flat fee. Interested in a one-way RV road trip from Green Island down toward NYC or up to Burlington? Message the host directly from the listing before booking. Mileage policies are listed up front, so you'll know exactly what's included.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Green%20Island%2C%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure, all handled through RVezy and never in cash or off-platform. When you book, you pay the rental total (plus any add-ons and the protection plan you choose) by credit card through the secure checkout. Your host also places a refundable security deposit hold on your card around the time of pickup; the amount is shown on each listing and is released after a smooth return, typically within a few days. To avoid any deposit surprises, do a walkaround with the host at pickup and dropoff, snap photos of the RV inside and out, return with the same fuel level, and dump tanks if your host requires it. Easy paperwork, easy refund.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Green Island in winter, and is it worth it?
Yes, and a snowy upstate New York RV trip can be genuinely magical. Several Green Island hosts list four-season RVs equipped for cold-weather camping, with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, propane furnaces, and 30/50-amp shore power so you stay comfortable even when temps drop into the teens. Winter-friendly destinations within easy reach include Gore Mountain (about 75 miles north for skiing), Lake George in its quiet off-season, and the Lake Placid Olympic region. Look for listings that mention winter use or four-season insulation, and message the host to confirm. Pro tip: book a delivered RV at a campground that stays open year-round, plug into full hookups, and let your host handle setup for you.
