Campgrounds near Greenville, New York
Greenville sits in southern Westchester County, minutes from the Bronx border and roughly a half hour north of Midtown Manhattan. That puts RV renters within easy reach of two very different camping worlds: the urban waterfront parks that serve as basecamps for New York City sightseeing, and the wooded state parks of the Lower Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey Highlands.
For city access, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City is the closest full-hookup option, with PATH and ferry connections into Manhattan. Floyd Bennett Field, part of the National Park Service's Gateway National Recreation Area in Brooklyn, offers a rare in-city campground on a former airfield.
For traditional camping, Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park sits within the 46,000-acre park in Rockland County, adjacent to the Lake Welch Recreation Area, with select sites able to accommodate trailers or RVs up to 30 feet, and Pelton Pond in Clarence Fahnestock State Park lies farther north along the Taconic corridor. Camp Wyanokie, a rustic tent-only preserve next to Norvin Green State Forest in West Milford, New Jersey, rounds out the options for renters willing to leave the RV hooked up elsewhere.
Things to do near Greenville
The area pairs city attractions with outdoor recreation. From Liberty Harbor RV Park, ferries and the Grove Street PATH station connect quickly into Lower Manhattan.
For hiking and swimming, Harriman State Park offers an extensive trail network, including sections of the Appalachian Trail, along with lakes, swimming beaches, and paddling. Lake Welch swimming beach sits within walking distance of Beaver Pond, with immediate access to Harriman's extensive network of hiking trails, including portions of the Appalachian Trail.
At Floyd Bennett Field, a camping reservation gets access to an outdoor archery range with 8 to 10 targets, plus hiking trails, historic airplane hangars, and bike rentals nearby. Pelton Pond adds quiet lakeside walking loops in Clarence Fahnestock, and Camp Wyanokie contributes fishing, birdwatching, and trail access into Norvin Green State Forest.

Beaver Pond Campground opens in mid-April for walk-in camping only through early May, with the regular reservation season running from early May through mid-October. Camp Gateway Brooklyn, the campground at Floyd Bennett Field, is typically open from mid-May through mid-October.
Liberty Harbor RV Park operates year-round, making it the practical winter and shoulder-season choice for RVs in the metro area. Spring and summer are the busiest seasons at Harriman and Clarence Fahnestock and the best times for paddling and swimming, and weekend sites within an hour of the city book out quickly.
Summer humidity and mosquitoes are worth planning around at coastal sites. One camper reported gnats and a few mosquitoes at Floyd Bennett Field in late June, and reviews indicate mosquitoes can be a significant problem from July through October. Fall brings cooler nights and foliage across the Hudson Highlands, while winter closures affect most state-park campgrounds in the region.

Here’s the updated version with the host included: RV Trip Review We just got back from our trip and had a great experience with this RV. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and ran really well throughout the entire trip. It had plenty of space for the family and made traveling together easy and enjoyable. How to book campgrounds near Greenville
Reservation systems differ by ownership. New York State Parks, including Beaver Pond and Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock, are booked through Reserve America. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, with sites released at the 9-month window between March 15 and Labor Day at 8 AM Monday through Friday and 9 AM on weekends.
Floyd Bennett Field is a National Park Service campground. Reservations are made online at recreation.gov, and advance reservations are required at least a day in advance. Liberty Harbor RV Park is booked directly with the operator.
Because many of these campgrounds serve the New York City metro, weekend inventory disappears fast, so weekend bookings should be made as far in advance as possible. Camp Wyanokie is tent-only, so RV renters should plan a non-RV overnight or choose another property.
What to expect
Hookups and rig size vary widely. Liberty Harbor is the closest full-service RV park to the city, with electric and water hookups, restrooms, showers, and laundry. Sites at state and national parks are more primitive. Beaver Pond fits trailers or RVs up to 30 feet on select sites, includes a picnic table and fire ring with flip-top grill, and provides full-service bathrooms with showers, laundry, and a dump station, but has no electrical hookups.
Rules can be stricter than at private parks. Alcohol is not permitted at Beaver Pond and no pets are allowed. Only one vehicle is permitted at each campsite. The Floyd Bennett Field RV area has no water or electric hookups, though seasonal showers, drinking water, flush toilets, picnic tables, and a dump station are available.
Camp Wyanokie cannot accommodate RVs and offers only rustic tent facilities, so renters counting on hookups should confirm details before booking.
