Campgrounds and RV parks near Hancock, NY

Hancock sits at the confluence of the East and West Branches of the Delaware River in the western Catskills, on the New York-Pennsylvania border. The town serves as the northern access point for the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, a National Park Service unit that runs 73.4 miles downstream from the confluence to Sparrowbush, New York. RV travelers use Hancock as a base for river access, trout fishing, and Catskill Forest Preserve trails. Options in the area range from private full-hookup parks to a state-run campground. Soaring Eagle Campground and Guestward Ho Family Campground sit close to the river corridor and cater to families, while Peaceful Valley Campsite offers riverfront sites popular with paddlers. Bear Spring Mountain, a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation campground about five miles south of Walton, provides a more rustic, forested experience adjacent to Launt Pond. The surrounding landscape is forested hills and cold tailwater streams, not lakeshore. Most named campgrounds operate seasonally, with the private parks typically opening earlier in spring and closing later in fall than the state site.

Bear Spring Mountain is reserved through the New York State DEC system operated by ReserveAmerica. Sites can be booked online or by calling 1-800-456-2267, up to nine months ahead of arrival. Same-day reservations are accepted until 5 p.m. on the day of arrival, and walk-ins are not permitted. From July 1 through Labor Day, campers are limited to 14 cumulative nights at any DEC campground. Private parks including Soaring Eagle Campground, Guestward Ho Family Campground, and Peaceful Valley Campsite book directly through the campground. Summer weekends, holiday weekends, and prime trout weeks in May and June should be reserved several weeks in advance. Check-in at Bear Spring Mountain runs from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m., with checkout at 11 a.m.
