Campgrounds and RV parks near Harriman, NY

Harriman sits in Orange County at the northern edge of Harriman State Park, one of the largest state parks in New York and a primary draw for RV travelers heading north from the metropolitan area. The park covers a landscape of lakes, forested ridges, and hundreds of miles of trails, with Beaver Pond Campground located directly adjacent to the Lake Welch Recreation Area. Most campgrounds within an hour of town fall into two categories: state-park facilities with primitive or basic sites, and privately run RV parks with full hookups. Beaver Pond Campground inside Harriman State Park has 125 sites, with select sites able to accommodate trailers or RVs up to 30 feet, along with full-service bathrooms, showers, laundry, and a dump station, but no electrical hookups. Nearby private options include Black Bear Campground and the New York City North / Newburgh KOA Holiday, both geared to larger rigs. Across the state line in New Jersey, Wawayanda State Park adds another wooded option within roughly 45 minutes, and Camp Wyanokie in the Norvin Green State Forest area offers a more rustic setup for smaller vehicles.

New York state-park sites are reserved through the ReserveAmerica system operated by New York State Parks. Reservations can be made up to nine months in advance, with sites opening at 8 AM on weekdays and 9 AM on weekends between March 15 and Labor Day, and at 9 AM daily the rest of the year. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 PM on the day of arrival, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only. New Jersey state parks, including Wawayanda, book online through camping.nj.gov. Private campgrounds such as Black Bear Campground and the New York City North / Newburgh KOA Holiday book directly through their own websites or partner platforms. For summer weekends and fall-foliage dates, popular sites often go at the nine-month window.
