Campgrounds near Hastings-on-Hudson
Hastings-on-Hudson sits on the east bank of the Hudson River in Westchester County, about 20 miles north of Midtown Manhattan. The village itself has no campground, but RV renters have several options within a one-hour drive across the Lower Hudson Valley, northern New Jersey, and inside New York City limits.
The closest state-park option is Beaver Pond Campground inside the 46,000-acre Harriman State Park in Rockland County, with 125 campsites, some of which accommodate trailers or RVs up to 30 feet. For urban access, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City sits close to Lower Manhattan via PATH train and NY Waterway ferry, and the campground at Floyd Bennett Field, officially Camp Gateway Brooklyn, is the closest campground to New York City after Fort Wadsworth.
For a quieter Hudson Highlands base, Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock State Park has 75 sites with a 40-foot RV length limit and typically runs mid-May to early November, roughly an hour north off the Taconic Parkway. Farther west, Camp Wyanokie in West Milford is a rustic tent-oriented area that does not suit RV renters.
Things to do near Hastings-on-Hudson
Trip planning from Hastings-on-Hudson usually splits between city sightseeing and Hudson Valley outdoor recreation. From Liberty Harbor RV Park, the PATH train and NY Waterway ferry reach Lower Manhattan quickly, and Liberty State Park and the ferries to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty are close by.
On the outdoor side, Harriman State Park offers more than 200 miles of trails, 31 lakes, two beaches, and lake activities such as swimming, fishing, paddling, boating, ice fishing, and ice skating, with the Lake Welch swim beach next to Beaver Pond Campground. At Clarence Fahnestock, the Appalachian Trail passes through the park and a 1.5-mile Pelton Pond loop trail provides easy hiking access directly from the campsites.
At Floyd Bennett Field, visitors can bike the flat former runways, tour historic aircraft hangars, and reach Jacob Riis Park beach nearby.

The camping season around Hastings-on-Hudson is shaped by state and federal park calendars. Beaver Pond in Harriman typically opens in mid-April for walk-in camping and shifts to reservation-based camping from early May through mid-October. Pelton Pond opens in mid-May and takes RVs up to 40 feet, running through early November. Camp Gateway Brooklyn at Floyd Bennett Field has historically operated from mid-May through mid-October, but it did not open for the 2025 season, so travelers should confirm status with the National Park Service before planning around it.
Spring brings variable weather and wet trails, but wildflowers and warbler migration draw hikers to the Highlands. Summer is peak season: Harriman is a favored weekend getaway for New Yorkers, so weekend bookings should be made as far in advance as possible, and biting insects, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms are common.
Fall delivers the strongest foliage window in October and cooler nights that thin the bug pressure. Winter closes most public campgrounds in the region, though Liberty Harbor RV Park operates year-round.

How to book campgrounds near Hastings-on-Hudson
New York State Parks campgrounds, including Beaver Pond at Harriman and Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock, use the ReserveAmerica system. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, with sites becoming available at the 9-month window at 8AM Monday through Friday and 9AM Saturday and Sunday from March 15 through Labor Day. From mid-May to early October, same-day reservations are permitted only until 3pm, and no walk-ins are allowed.
Floyd Bennett Field camping reservations, when the campground is operating, are handled through the National Recreation Reservation System (Recreation.gov) or by phone. Liberty Harbor RV Park is booked directly through its own website or by phone.
For peak summer weekends and any fall-foliage Saturday, plan to book the moment the 9-month window opens. Cancellations do surface, so checking again closer to the trip is worthwhile.
What to expect at campgrounds near Hastings-on-Hudson
RV renters should expect a wide range of site types across this region. Beaver Pond provides full-service bathrooms with showers and laundry facilities plus a dump station, but no electrical hookups, and RVs are capped at 30 feet. Pelton Pond has tables, water, toilets, and showers, and accepts big rigs up to 40 feet.
Liberty Harbor RV Park provides electric and water hookups, restrooms, showers, and laundry with easy NYC access, and functions as a paved marina lot rather than a nature setting. Floyd Bennett Field has no water or electric hookups and the RV area is essentially a level concrete plaza.
Black bears inhabit Harriman and the Bear Mountain area, so food storage rules apply. Pets are not permitted at Beaver Pond Campground or Lake Welch, so travelers with dogs should verify each park's pet policy before booking.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Hastings-on-Hudson, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY?
An RV rental in Hastings-on-Hudson is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Hudson Valley. Rentals on RVezy typically range from about $150 to $300 per night, with travel trailers usually the most budget-friendly option and Class A motorhomes at the higher end. To find a cheap RV rental in Hastings-on-Hudson, travel mid-week, target shoulder months like late April or October, and use the price filter when browsing listings. Many hosts offer weekly discounts, so a 7-night Hudson Valley loop often costs less per night than a long weekend.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Hastings-on-Hudson,%20New%20YorkDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Hastings-on-Hudson?
You are in luck: a standard New York driver's license (or any valid US/Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Hastings-on-Hudson. New York does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal-use motorhomes or trailers under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every RV on RVezy. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the platform during booking. Visiting from overseas? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto club before flying in. That's it, you're ready to roll up the Hudson.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/get-driver-licenseWhat protection is included with my RV rental in Hastings-on-Hudson?
Every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can leave Hastings-on-Hudson feeling fully supported. At checkout you choose your protection level, and each plan covers physical damage to the RV up to defined limits so you are not on the hook for the unexpected. Protection plans are not traditional auto insurance, but they provide real financial peace of mind whether you are heading up the Hudson Valley or to a Catskills campground. Review the plan options before you book so you can match the coverage to your comfort level, then focus on planning the route.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Hastings-on-Hudson RV trip?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets a standard cancellation policy that applies to every reservation, so the rules are not host-defined. There is a money-back grace period right after you confirm your booking, and after that window your refund amount depends on how far in advance of your trip start date you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credits so your plans stay on track. Review the full cancellation policy on the RVezy Help Center before booking, then book with confidence and start mapping that fall foliage run up Route 9.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Hastings-on-Hudson RV rental?
Yes, many RVezy hosts welcome pets. To find a pet-friendly RV rental in Hastings-on-Hudson, toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when searching RVezy and you will see only hosts who allow four-legged guests (a small cleaning fee or refundable pet deposit is common). Once you are on the road, Croton Point Park allows leashed dogs in the campground, and the Old Croton Aqueduct State Historic Park trail running right through Hastings is a local favorite for leashed walks. Pack a collapsible water bowl, summer humidity along the Hudson can sneak up on dogs fast.
parks.ny.gov/parks/crotonpointCan the RV be delivered to me in Hastings-on-Hudson?
Yes, and it is often the easiest way to start a trip from a dense Westchester village like Hastings-on-Hudson. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery in Hastings-on-Hudson and the surrounding Rivertowns, dropping the rig at your home, a convenient meet-up spot, or directly at your campground (Croton Point Park, Harriman State Park, and Black Bear Campground are common drop sites). Your host handles parking, hookups, and a full walkthrough, so first-timers do not have to navigate the local parkways. Filter by Delivery when browsing, message the host with your address, and they will quote the fee based on distance.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038103634-Delivery-optionsHow far can I drive on my RV rental's mileage allowance?
Plenty far for a great Hastings-on-Hudson RV trip. Most hosts include a daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 miles per day), and some offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage, which you will see clearly listed before you book. For perspective from Hastings-on-Hudson: the Catskills are about 90 miles north, Lake George is roughly 200 miles, Cape Cod is around 230 miles, and Acadia National Park is about 460 miles. If you are planning a bigger loop, filter for unlimited mileage or buy a mileage add-on upfront, it is almost always cheaper than paying overage fees later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038104774-Mileage-and-generator-usageWhere are the best campgrounds near Hastings-on-Hudson?
You have great choices for RV camping near Hastings-on-Hudson. Croton Point Park (about 15 miles north) sits on a peninsula in the Hudson with electric hookups, river views, and year-round camping. Beaver Pond Campground inside Harriman State Park (about 35 miles northwest) offers wooded sites with swimming and hiking nearby. Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY (about 50 miles) is a full-hookup favorite popular with NYC-area renters. For something different, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City (about 25 miles south) puts you across the river from Manhattan. Croton Point fills fast for fall foliage weekends, so book through Westchester County Parks early.
parks.westchestergov.com/croton-point-parkWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Hastings-on-Hudson?
Late spring through mid-fall is the sweet spot. May and June bring mild temperatures in the 60s to low 80s and blooming Hudson Valley landscapes. July and August are warm (often 80s with humidity) and best for swimming at Croton Point. The local favorite is late September through mid-October, when Hudson Valley foliage peaks, daytime temps hover in the 60s, and campgrounds remain open. Winter rentals are also available for cozy trips north to the Catskills, just confirm with your host that the RV is winterized and has heated tanks before you book.
weather.gov/okx/I have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
Yes, first-time renting an RV is much less intimidating than it looks, especially with an RVezy host walking you through everything. At pickup or delivery, your host provides a hands-on orientation covering water hookups, propane, slide-outs, dump valves, and more. You can message your host with questions before booking, and RVezy support is available if anything comes up mid-trip. For your first Hastings-on-Hudson RV trip, consider a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer, both drive more like a large van than a bus. Choose delivery for your first booking so you can skip driving out of Westchester traffic entirely.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180973-For-RentersWhat happens if I break down or have an issue on the road?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering items like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. If something goes sideways on the Taconic State Parkway at 10 p.m., one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also typically reachable by phone or in-app message for quick questions like where the spare key is or how to reset the inverter. Save the RVezy roadside assistance number and your host's contact info to your phone before you pull out of Hastings-on-Hudson, a two-minute task for huge peace of mind.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008314-Roadside-assistance-coverageCan I take my Hastings-on-Hudson RV rental to Canada or other states?
Interstate travel is open: an RV road trip from Hastings-on-Hudson easily reaches Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Pennsylvania, or down the coast to the Outer Banks with no special paperwork. Canada crossings (popular for Montreal and Quebec City) are often allowed but depend on the host and protection plan, so message the host directly from the listing before you book to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection plan does not extend there. A 6-day Vermont loop through Stowe and Lake Champlain is one of the area's most-loved cross-border-style trips.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Hastings-on-Hudson RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable cost, but it is easy to plan for. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 18 to 22 MPG for a campervan, and your tow vehicle's MPG minus about 30 percent if you are pulling a travel trailer. Gas in Westchester County tends to run above the national average, so it is often worth filling up north of I-84 where prices drop. Apps like GasBuddy make it easy to scout the cheapest stations along I-87 before you head out of Hastings-on-Hudson.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Hastings-on-Hudson?
Book sooner than you think, Hudson Valley campgrounds fill up fast. New York State Park campgrounds like Beaver Pond at Harriman and Clarence Fahnestock open reservations up to 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and prime summer weekends are often gone within days. Croton Point Park (Westchester County Parks) books months out for fall foliage season. For a typical May to October trip, aim for 2 to 4 months ahead; for July 4th, Labor Day weekend, or peak foliage in mid-October, lock it in 6 to 9 months early. Midweek arrivals on Sunday or Monday often have availability, even last-minute.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Hastings-on-Hudson?
Once you are past the immediate metro area, driving an RV around the Hudson Valley is genuinely pleasant. The catch is that several local parkways (Saw Mill River, Bronx River, Hutchinson River, and the Taconic) prohibit commercial vehicles and many RVs due to low stone-arch bridges. Stick to I-87 (the Thruway), I-287, I-684, and US-9 for an easy route north out of Hastings-on-Hudson. Westchester traffic peaks on weekdays from 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m., so aim to roll out mid-morning. This is exactly why many first-timers choose RV delivery in Hastings-on-Hudson, your host handles the tricky parkway routing for you.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/repository/Parkways_in_New_York_State.pdfWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Hastings-on-Hudson?
Hudson Valley campgrounds run the full spectrum, so you can pick your comfort level. Private parks like Black Bear Campground (Florida, NY) and Sylvan Lake Beach Park offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, pools, and on-site dump stations. New York State Park campgrounds like Beaver Pond at Harriman provide electric and water but no sewer hookups, with centralized dump stations and bathhouse showers available. Croton Point Park has electric sites plus potable water fill stations. If your RV does not have large fresh and gray tanks, book a site with at least electric and water hookups, that combo handles most trips comfortably.
parks.ny.gov/parks/harrimanWhat is included inside the RV itself?
Most RV rentals in Hastings-on-Hudson come move-in ready. Expect a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, stovetop, microwave, cookware, dishes, utensils), a bathroom with toilet and shower, comfortable beds with linens often included, dining seating with seatbelts, and climate control via furnace and air conditioning. Many hosts also include a TV, Wi-Fi hotspot, outdoor chairs, a BBQ, and a generator for off-grid nights. Each RVezy listing spells out exactly what is included and what is offered as an add-on. A campervan rental in Hastings-on-Hudson is perfect for couples weaving through the Rivertowns, while a Class C motorhome rental in Hastings-on-Hudson sleeps a family of six comfortably for a Catskills week.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Hastings-on-Hudson,%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons can I get and how does pickup and dropoff work?
Hosts in Hastings-on-Hudson offer many useful extras to customize your trip. Common add-ons include kitchen kits, linen and bedding packages, outdoor chairs and tables, BBQ grills, generators, bike racks, and pre-stocked propane or full water tanks. Delivery and setup is the most popular add-on locally for obvious Westchester traffic reasons. Pickup is usually at the host's address or a mutually agreed Rivertowns location, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough before you leave. Dropoff mirrors pickup: returned clean, with tanks dumped if required (or pay a dump fee). Book a generator add-on if you are heading to Harriman, many sites there lack hookups and it is nice insurance.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038103634-Delivery-optionsHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled inside RVezy: no cash, no third-party transfers. You pay through the secure platform when you book, and your card is charged according to the schedule shown at checkout. Most hosts require a refundable security deposit, which is held separately from your booking payment and released after a successful return. To avoid deposit issues, do a thorough walkthrough video with your host at pickup and return the RV on time, clean, and with tanks handled per the listing. Keep all pickup and dropoff photos in a dedicated phone album, it has saved many a deposit.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Hastings-on-Hudson?
Hastings-on-Hudson is one of the best RV launch pads in the Northeast. Top routes for an RV road trip from Hastings-on-Hudson include the Catskills via Phoenicia and Woodstock (about 110 miles, a perfect 3-day loop), Lake George and the southern Adirondacks (about 200 miles, a classic family RV trip from Hastings-on-Hudson), the Berkshires of western Massachusetts (about 130 miles, gorgeous in fall), Cape Cod and the Cape Cod National Seashore (about 230 miles), and Acadia National Park in Maine (about 460 miles, the ultimate 10-day adventure). Leave Hastings-on-Hudson on a Sunday morning before 9 a.m. to skip Westchester traffic and watch the Hudson Highlands open up north of Bear Mountain Bridge.
