How to book campgrounds near High Falls
Reservation systems differ by campground type. Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park is booked through the New York State Parks ReserveAmerica system. Camping reservations can be made up to nine months in advance, with the nine-month window opening at 8 a.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. weekends from March 15 through Labor Day, and at 9 a.m. daily during the rest of the year. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival for campsites, and bookings can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center at 1-800-456-2267.
Private parks handle their own bookings. At Rondout Valley RV Campground, reservations from April 15 to September 15 have a maximum stay of 14 days per site, though consecutive stays are permitted if the reservation is moved to a different site. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lazy River, So-Hi Campgrounds, and New York City North / Newburgh KOA Holiday accept direct bookings through their operator websites and fill quickly for summer weekends, so reserve early.
What to expect at High Falls campgrounds
Sites near High Falls vary widely in style. Rondout Valley RV Campground offers a mix of full-hookup and electric sites with 30 and 50-amp service, plus rental cabins and park models; during the high-use summer season, 50-amp full-hookup sites are not guaranteed at check-in. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lazy River leans resort-style with full hookups and family-focused amenities.
Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park is a more traditional experience. There are 44 tent sites and 10 cabins available for rental, and recreational vehicles are welcome, though the park does not offer hookup facilities. A limited number of electric sites are available, water spigots are located throughout the campground rather than on individual sites, and a central comfort station provides showers and toilets.
Expect wooded terrain, mosquitoes in summer, and cool nights into June and after Labor Day. Cell coverage is generally reliable but can be patchy in the Shawangunks.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in High Falls, NY?
RV rental in High Falls is reasonably priced for such a scenic Hudson Valley destination. Travel trailers typically start around $75 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes run roughly $175 to $300, and larger Class A coaches sit around $250 to $450. Booking midweek or in late spring and early fall (outside peak foliage weekends in October) is the smartest way to find a cheap RV rental in High Falls and avoid the weekend surge from NYC visitors. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=High%20Falls%2C%20New%20YorkWhat license do I need to rent an RV in High Falls, NY?
Good news: for the vast majority of rentals on RVezy, a regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in High Falls. New York only requires a special Recreational Vehicle (R) endorsement for motorhomes with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and almost every camper van, travel trailer, and Class C on the platform falls well under that limit. You'll need to be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and RVezy verifies approved drivers during the booking flow. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set for your High Falls RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsAm I covered if something happens during my High Falls RV trip?
Yes, every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can focus on the Shawangunk views instead of worst-case scenarios. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose the coverage level that fits your comfort during checkout (hosts don't set this, you do). Whether you're parked at Kenneth L. Wilson Campground or pulling into Minnewaska, you'll know help is one phone call away, day or night. For full details on what's included with your RV rental in High Falls, review RVezy's protection plan options before you book.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change? Can I cancel my RV rental in High Falls?
Plans shift, and RVezy gets that. Every booking is backed by an RVezy-managed cancellation policy (hosts don't set their own), which includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Refund amounts after that depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. If a host needs to cancel, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credit so you're never left stranded. Booking a campervan rental in High Falls for fall foliage weekend? Reserve early to secure the RV you want, then relax knowing the cancellation safety net is there.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a High Falls RV trip?
Absolutely, the Hudson Valley is one of the most dog-loving corners of New York and pet-friendly RV rental in High Falls is easy to find. Just toggle the 'Pet-Friendly' filter on RVezy and you'll see hosts who welcome four-legged guests (some ask for a small cleaning fee, which is noted right on the listing). Once you arrive, dogs are welcome on leash at Minnewaska State Park Preserve carriage roads, along the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, and at most local breweries' outdoor patios. Pro tip: stop at the swimming hole below the High Falls waterfall on Rondout Creek for a quick pup-friendly cool-down after a hike.
parks.ny.gov/parks/minnewaskaCan the RV be delivered to my campground or rental house in High Falls?
Yes, RV delivery in High Falls is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers nervous about navigating Route 213's narrow bridge over Rondout Creek. Many hosts will drive the RV directly to Rondout Valley RV Campground, Jellystone Park in Gardiner, a friend's driveway in Stone Ridge, or a wedding venue at one of the local Hudson Valley barns. They'll level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Filter by 'Delivery' on RVezy to see hosts offering this; delivery fees are usually based on distance and shown upfront in the quote.
visitulstercountyny.com/about/towns/marbletown/How far can I travel on an RV rental from High Falls?
You've got incredible range from High Falls. Many hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and several offer RV rental with unlimited mileage (look for that filter on RVezy). From High Falls, you're roughly 95 miles to New York City, 60 miles to the Catskill High Peaks around Phoenicia, 75 miles to the Berkshires in Massachusetts, 140 miles to Lake George, and about 250 miles to Niagara-bound routes. If you go over the included mileage, extra miles typically run $0.30 to $0.50 each. Pro tip: an RV road trip from High Falls through the Shawangunk Mountains Scenic Byway (88 miles loop) is one of the best uses of your first day.
iloveny.com/listing/shawangunk-mountains-scenic-byway/31463/Where are the best campgrounds near High Falls, NY?
You're spoiled for choice. Some of the best campgrounds near High Falls include Rondout Valley RV Campground in Accord (full hookups, 10 minutes away), Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Gardiner (family-friendly with pools and water slides, about 15 minutes south), Thousand Trails Rondout Valley (large wooded sites with full hookups), Kenneth L. Wilson Campground in Mt. Tremper (a New York State campground with spacious shaded sites about 30 minutes north), and the Samuel F. Pryor III Shawangunk Gateway Campground near New Paltz (primitive tent and small-rig sites at the doorstep of the Gunks). Reserve State campgrounds through ReserveAmerica well in advance for summer weekends.
parks.ny.gov/camping/When is the best time of year for RV camping in High Falls?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping in High Falls, with September and early October being the absolute crown jewel thanks to Catskills and Shawangunk fall foliage. Summer highs sit in the mid-70s to mid-80s°F with cool nights in the 50s and 60s, while October days hover in the 50s and 60s with crisp mornings near 40°F. Local insider tip: the second and third weekends of October are peak leaf-peeping (and peak crowds) along Route 213 and Mohonk; book your RV rental in High Falls at least 2 to 3 months out for those dates, or shift to late September for similar color with fewer cars.
weather.gov/aly/I've never rented an RV before. Will I actually know what I'm doing?
You'll be in great shape, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery), covering propane, water hookups, the generator, slide-outs, dump procedures, and driving tips specific to their rig. Most first-timers in High Falls choose a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer because they handle like a large van or pickup, not a bus. You can also message the host through the listing before booking with any questions about driving the narrow stretches of Route 213 or backing into a Catskills campsite. Confidence builder: the host's phone number is yours throughout the trip.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat happens if I get a flat tire or break down near High Falls?
Help is built right into your booking. Every RVezy rental includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 209, a dead battery at the Minnewaska parking lot, or a lockout at Jellystone Park is a single phone call to resolve. Roadside assistance covers towing, jump-starts, tire changes, fuel delivery, and lockouts. Your host is also a quick text away for vehicle-specific questions, and RVezy support is available before, during, and after the trip. Pro tip: snap a photo of your VIN and license plate at pickup so you can share them instantly if you ever need service.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my RV rental from High Falls into Canada or other states?
Yes, in most cases you can take your RV rental across state lines and even into Canada with host approval, opening up huge possibilities for an RV road trip from High Falls. Popular interstate routes head north into Vermont and the Adirondacks, east into Massachusetts and the Berkshires, or south through New Jersey toward the Delaware Water Gap. Cross-border travel to Canada (Montreal is about 5 to 6 hours north) needs host approval in advance so insurance coverage and paperwork are squared away. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Message the host directly from the listing before booking to confirm your route.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a High Falls RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's easy to plan for. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A coaches typically run 6 to 10 MPG. Gas in the Hudson Valley generally runs a bit above the national average; you'll find the best prices at stations along Route 209 in Stone Ridge and Kingston rather than tourist-heavy spots. For a 4-day, 300-mile loop through the Shawangunks and Catskills in a Class C, budget roughly $120 to $180 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Kingston before heading into the Catskills, where stations get sparser.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near High Falls?
For peak times, the earlier the better. New York State campgrounds like Kenneth L. Wilson and Woodland Valley open reservations 9 months ahead through ReserveAmerica, and prime summer weekends and October foliage dates fill within hours of opening. Private parks like Rondout Valley RV Campground and Jellystone Park in Gardiner can sell out 2 to 4 months ahead for summer Saturdays. Midweek stays in June or September are often bookable 2 to 3 weeks out. Local insider tip: if a state campground is sold out, set a free alert on ReserveAmerica; cancellations pop up constantly within 7 days of arrival.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What's it like driving an RV around High Falls and the Hudson Valley?
Driving here is genuinely pleasant once you know the lay of the land. Route 209 and Route 32 are wide, well-maintained, and RV-friendly. The main thing to watch is the narrow steel bridge on Route 213 right over the High Falls waterfall and a few low-clearance railroad underpasses near Rosendale and Kingston (anything over 11 feet should stick to Route 209). Mountain roads up to Minnewaska and Mohonk have steady grades but nothing extreme. Local insider tip: avoid the New York State Thruway (I-87) southbound on Sunday afternoons when NYC weekenders head home; take Route 209 to Route 17 instead for a calmer drive back from your High Falls RV rental.
dot.ny.gov/indexWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near High Falls?
Most campgrounds offering RV camping in High Falls have what you need to settle in fast. Private parks like Rondout Valley RV Campground and Jellystone Park in Gardiner offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer), plus dump stations, potable water fill, hot showers, laundry, Wi-Fi, and pools. New York State campgrounds like Kenneth L. Wilson typically have electric and water at sites, central dump stations, and potable water spigots but no sewer hookups. Cell service is solid throughout the Rondout Valley and patchy deeper in the Catskills. Pro tip: fill fresh water and dump tanks before leaving the campground; rural Route 209 dump options are limited between towns.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What's actually inside a typical RV rental in High Falls?
You'll find more comfort than most first-timers expect. A typical motorhome rental in High Falls comes with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette, full kitchen (fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink, cookware), a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control with roof A/C and furnace, a TV, and seatbelted seating for travel. Most include a generator or solar setup, outdoor camp chairs, and a propane fire pit on request. Wi-Fi hotspots and bike racks are common add-ons. Pro tip: filter by 'Sleeps 4' or 'Sleeps 6' on RVezy and check the listing's amenity list, family RV trip from High Falls is so much easier when bedtime configurations are sorted in advance.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for my High Falls RV rental?
RVezy hosts in the High Falls area offer lots of ways to customize your trip. Popular add-ons include kitchen kits ($25 to $50), linen and bedding bundles ($25 to $75), generator use ($3 to $10 per hour over included hours), portable Wi-Fi, bike racks, kayaks, and propane fire pits. Most hosts offer two ways to start your trip: in-person pickup at their location, or RV delivery in High Falls directly to your campground (delivery fees vary by distance). Mileage policies are listed clearly on each listing, often 100 to 150 free miles per night with overage at $0.30 to $0.50. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a stocked kitchen kit if it's your first time renting an RV.
consumer.ftc.gov/articles/online-shoppingHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through RVezy, so no cash or off-platform transfers with the host. Your rental total, taxes, protection plan, and any add-ons are charged through RVezy during booking, with the final balance collected before the trip per RVezy's payment schedule. The refundable security deposit is separate from your booking payment: it's pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, it's the easiest way to avoid any deposit disputes on your High Falls RV rental.
