Camping near Kings Point, New York
Kings Point sits on the north shore of Long Island's Great Neck peninsula, tucked between Little Neck Bay and Manhasset Bay. There are no campgrounds inside the village itself, so RV renters base out of parks in the surrounding metro region and Hudson Valley. The closest options span three distinct settings: urban NYC waterfront, the forested Ramapo Mountains, and the Long Island south shore.
Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City is the closest full-hookup RV park with direct transit access to Manhattan. Floyd Bennett Field's Camp Gateway Brooklyn is currently closed and did not operate during the 2025 season while the National Park Service seeks a new concessionaire, so plan around its uncertain reopening.
For traditional state-park camping within roughly an hour or two of Kings Point, Beaver Pond Campground inside Harriman State Park sits in Rockland County, Heckscher State Park anchors the Long Island south shore in Suffolk County, and Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock State Park covers the Hudson Highlands to the north. Together these five parks give RV renters a mix of urban base camps and forested weekend destinations within reach of Kings Point.
Things to do near Kings Point
The area around Kings Point mixes big-city sightseeing with Long Island Sound waterfronts and Hudson Valley hiking. From Liberty Harbor RV Park, ferries and the PATH train reach Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. Floyd Bennett Field itself remains open for day use even with its campground closed, offering biking on former runways, historic hangars, and paddling along Jamaica Bay.
Inland, Harriman State Park covers roughly 48,000 acres in Rockland and Orange counties about 30 miles north of New York City, with 31 lakes and over 200 miles of trails maintained by the New York–New Jersey Trail Conference. Beaver Pond puts Lake Welch swimming beach within walking distance and provides immediate access to Harriman's hiking network, including portions of the Appalachian Trail.
On Long Island, Heckscher State Park spans 1,657 acres along Great South Bay with Fire Island views, calm bayfront swimming, four miles of paved multi-use trails, and connections to the Long Island Greenbelt Trail. Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock gives access to Appalachian Trail miles, shoreline fishing, and a picnic pavilion above the pond.

Camping seasons vary sharply by park. Liberty Harbor RV Park operates year-round, making it the most reliable option in the immediate metro area during the shoulder and winter months. Camp Gateway Brooklyn at Floyd Bennett Field is currently closed, did not operate in the 2025 season, and the National Park Service is seeking a new concessionaire, so treat it as unavailable until the park service announces a reopening.
State parks run a shorter season. Beaver Pond in Harriman opens in mid-April for walk-in camping only, then runs a regular reservation season from early May through mid-October. Heckscher State Park's campground reopens May 22 through September 6, and Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock runs from mid-May to mid-October.
July and August draw the heaviest crowds, especially on weekends. Spring and fall shoulder weeks bring cooler nights, thinner bug pressure, and better site availability. Fall foliage peaks in the Hudson Highlands from mid-October into early November.

How to book campgrounds near Kings Point
New York State Parks including Beaver Pond, Heckscher, and Pelton Pond use ReserveAmerica. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, with sites becoming available at the 9-month window at 8AM Monday through Friday and 9AM on weekends between March 15 and Labor Day. Popular summer weekends near NYC fill the moment the window opens.
Camp Gateway Brooklyn at Floyd Bennett Field is not currently accepting reservations pending selection of a new operator. Liberty Harbor RV Park takes reservations directly by phone or through its website and is a useful fallback when state parks are full.
Have a backup date in mind. Harriman is a favored weekend getaway for New Yorkers, so weekend bookings should be made as far in advance as possible.
What to expect
Amenities vary widely. Liberty Harbor offers full hookups, showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi, but sites are tight and the setting is essentially a paved marina lot near Manhattan.
Beaver Pond has 125 sites with picnic tables and fire rings, full-service bathrooms with showers, laundry facilities, and a dump station, but no electrical hookups; select sites accommodate trailers or RVs up to 30 feet. Pets are not permitted in Beaver Pond Campground or at Lake Welch, and dogs are also excluded from the Heckscher campground.
Heckscher offers 67 sites on Great South Bay accommodating tents and RVs from 20 to 50 feet depending on the site, with no electric, water, or sewer hookups but restrooms, showers, a dump station, and picnic tables at each site. Expect close-set sites and a social, family atmosphere at Long Island parks in summer. Pelton Pond has a 40-foot RV length limit with tables, grills, water, toilets, and showers.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Kings Point, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Kings Point, NY?
RV rental in Kings Point is often more affordable than people expect for the New York metro area. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes run roughly $175 to $300 per night, and larger Class A rigs land in the $300 to $500 range. Because hosts set their own nightly rates, you can find a cheap RV rental Kings Point families enjoy by booking midweek or in the shoulder seasons (April to mid-June, September to October). Use the price filter to compare options, and message hosts about weekly discounts. Pro tip: booking a travel trailer with delivery is often cheaper than a drivable motorhome once you factor in fuel across Long Island.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kings%20Point%2C%20New%20YorkWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Kings Point?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular New York (or home-state) driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Kings Point, with no CDL or special endorsement required for the standard motorhomes and trailers on RVezy. You'll need to be 25 or older and complete a quick ID verification through the platform when you book. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit from your local auto club. New York State caps motorhomes at 45 feet and combined length at 65 feet, so virtually every rig in the Kings Point area falls well within standard-license rules. You're cleared to focus on the fun part: planning the trip.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/get-driver-licenseIs insurance and roadside assistance included when I rent an RV in Kings Point?
Yes, and this is one of the best parts of booking through RVezy. Every RV rental in Kings Point automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered for eligible damage to the vehicle and have someone to call if you get a flat on the Long Island Expressway at 2 a.m. During checkout, you choose the protection level that fits your trip based on your comfort with the deductible and coverage limits. Hosts do not pick this for you, you do. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it is meaningful coverage that lets you pull out of the driveway with peace of mind.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Kings Point RV rental?
You can book with confidence. RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy, and every booking includes a money-back grace period right after you reserve, so a last-minute change of plans will not automatically cost you the whole trip. After that window, refund eligibility depends on how far out you are from your pickup date. You will see the exact terms before you confirm payment. Pro tip: if a nor'easter is forecast for your Long Island travel dates, reach out to RVezy support early. They handle these situations every season and can help you find a workable solution.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Kings Point RV trip?
Absolutely. Many hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental Kings Point dog parents love, and you can filter listings by the Pet-Friendly tag to see them instantly. Some hosts charge a small pet fee (usually $25 to $75 per trip) to cover extra cleaning, which you'll see clearly before booking. Once you're on the road, your pup will love Sands Point Preserve just minutes from Kings Point, plus the off-leash hours at Cedar Creek Park in Seaford. Heading further out, both Hither Hills State Park and Wildwood State Park welcome leashed dogs in their campgrounds. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and breed; many will waive small extras for well-behaved repeat guests.
parks.ny.gov/recreation/pets/Can the RV be delivered to me in Kings Point?
Yes, and this is often the best move for first-timers in a dense area like Nassau County. Many hosts on RVezy offer RV delivery Kings Point guests appreciate: they will drive the rig to your driveway, a marina, or directly to a campground like Battle Row in Old Bethpage or Nickerson Beach in Lido Beach, then walk you through the systems on site. Delivery fees usually run $2 to $5 per mile from the host's location, with many offering flat rates within a set radius. Filter listings by Delivery to see who offers it. Pro tip: choosing delivery means you skip navigating an RV over the Throgs Neck Bridge or through Great Neck's narrow streets, which is a huge stress-saver.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008794-RV-delivery-explainedHow does mileage work and how far can I travel on a Kings Point RV trip?
Plenty far. Most Kings Point hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some list RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal if you're planning a longer Northeast loop. Extra miles typically cost $0.30 to $0.50 each, shown clearly on the listing. To put it in perspective from Kings Point: Montauk is about 110 miles east, the Catskills are roughly 120 miles north, Cape Cod is around 250 miles, and Niagara Falls is about 400 miles. A weekend Hamptons run easily fits inside a standard mileage allowance. Pro tip: if you're planning an RV road trip from Kings Point up to Acadia or down to Washington D.C., filter for unlimited-mileage listings first.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/osss/truck-pdfsWhere can I camp with an RV near Kings Point?
You have solid options within an easy drive. The best campgrounds near Kings Point include Battle Row Campground in Old Bethpage (about 20 miles east, full hookups and a quiet wooded setting), Nickerson Beach Park in Lido Beach (around 25 miles south, oceanfront RV sites), Cedar Point County Park in East Hampton (great for an end-of-the-island escape), Hither Hills State Park in Montauk (book early, beach sites go fast), and Wildwood State Park in Wading River on the North Shore. For RV camping Kings Point families return to year after year, Battle Row is the closest reliable bet. Pro tip: Nassau County campgrounds require a Leisure Pass for the resident rate, so non-residents should budget the standard fee.
parks.ny.gov/camping/When is the best time of year for a Kings Point RV trip?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for a Kings Point RV trip. June averages highs in the mid-70s°F, July and August climb into the mid-80s°F with humidity (and warm Long Island Sound water for swimming), and September often delivers the best weather of the year: low 70s°F, low humidity, and thinner crowds. October brings beautiful North Shore foliage and Hamptons wineries in full harvest mode. Winters dip into the 30s°F with occasional nor'easters, so most local campgrounds close from November through March. Pro tip: book early September for a campervan rental Kings Point locals quietly swear by, you get summer warmth without the July traffic on Sunrise Highway.
weather.gov/okx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You will be more than okay. First time renting an RV is the most common scenario on RVezy, and every host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup: how to operate the slide-outs, level the rig, hook up water and electric, dump tanks, and run the generator. They share a phone number for the trip and most respond within minutes. You also get RVezy support and 24/7 roadside assistance included with your protection plan. For Kings Point specifically, ask your host to demo backing up before you leave, since Long Island campground sites can be tight. Pro tip: pick a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer for your first trip; they drive much more like a large van than a bus.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002179453-For-rentersWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every motorhome rental Kings Point booking through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so one call gets you help with a tow, tire change, jump start, lockout, or fuel delivery throughout New York and the broader Northeast. Your host is typically reachable by phone or message and knows the rig inside out, often diagnosing small issues (like a tripped GFCI or a propane reset) in a two-minute call. RVezy's support team is your backup if anything escalates. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN, license plate, and propane tank locations at pickup, it speeds up any roadside call significantly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008834-Roadside-assistanceCan I take a Kings Point RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes to interstate trips, and often yes to Canada with host approval. The Northeast is built for an RV road trip from Kings Point: popular routes include the Jersey Shore (about 90 miles south), the Berkshires in Massachusetts (around 150 miles north), Acadia National Park in Maine (about 470 miles), and the White Mountains in New Hampshire (around 300 miles). Crossing into Canada (Niagara Falls or Montreal) is allowed by many hosts as long as you message them ahead so the protection plan and documentation are confirmed. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: bring your passport even for in-country trips; you will want it if you decide to detour to Niagara mid-trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Kings Point RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable, but it's manageable. Long Island gas typically runs $0.20 to $0.40 above the national average, with Nassau County stations often a touch cheaper than Suffolk. Realistic MPG: Class B campervans get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 MPG, Class A motorhomes 6 to 9 MPG, and a truck towing a travel trailer around 10 to 14 MPG. For a 300-mile weekend in a Class C, plan on roughly $120 to $180 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up before crossing into the Hamptons; East End gas stations charge a premium, especially in July and August. Costco in Westbury is a popular savings stop for Kings Point renters.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Kings Point?
Sooner than you think, especially for summer weekends. New York State Parks campgrounds (Wildwood, Hither Hills, Heckscher) open reservations 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and Hither Hills oceanfront sites for July and August often sell out the same morning the window opens. Nassau County's Nickerson Beach books out for summer weekends by April. Battle Row and private parks usually have 2 to 4 weeks of lead time even in peak season. For shoulder-season trips in May, September, or October, you can often book just a week ahead. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for the 9-month ReserveAmerica drop if you want a weekend at Hither Hills, it's the most coveted RV camping on Long Island.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What's it like driving an RV around Kings Point and Long Island?
Totally doable with a little planning. Kings Point sits in northwestern Nassau County, so you're close to several parkways, but here's the key Long Island rule: state parkways (Northern State, Southern State, Grand Central, Meadowbrook, Wantagh) ban commercial vehicles and many RVs due to low bridge clearances, some under 8 feet. Stick to the Long Island Expressway (I-495), Northern Boulevard (Route 25A), and Sunrise Highway (Route 27) instead. Avoid rush hour on the LIE (7 to 10 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m.) and the Throgs Neck Bridge on Fridays in summer. Pro tip: download a trucker GPS app like RV Trip Wizard or CoPilot; standard GPS routinely sends RVs onto restricted parkways.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/osss/truck/parkwaysWhat amenities do Long Island campgrounds offer for RVs?
More than enough for a comfortable trip. Most full-service campgrounds near Kings Point offer 30/50-amp electric, potable water fill stations, dump stations, hot showers, and laundry. Battle Row in Old Bethpage has water and electric at every site with a centralized dump. Nickerson Beach offers full hookups at premium sites plus a dump station for dry-camping spots, with strict gray/black water dumping rules (only at sewers or the dump station). Hither Hills has electric and water but no sewer at the site, just a central dump. Pro tip: fill your fresh water tank before leaving Kings Point if you're headed to a state park, and budget 20 minutes for the dump station on checkout morning, especially Sundays in August.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What's actually inside the RVs available in Kings Point?
Way more than you'd expect from the outside. A typical Class C motorhome rental Kings Point host offers includes a queen bed, bunk over the cab, dinette that converts to another bed, full kitchen (3-burner stove, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer), wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, roof AC, furnace, and a generator for off-grid power. Travel trailers add more living space; campervans (Class B) trim things down to a clever galley and convertible bed. Many listings include a flat-screen TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and increasingly, mobile WiFi hotspots. All sleeping seats have seatbelts (required by NY law for passengers). Pro tip: filter by sleeps count plus the amenities you actually need; a smaller rig is easier everywhere on Long Island.
dmv.ny.gov/registration/register-trailerWhat add-ons and options do Kings Point hosts offer?
Lots of useful extras that take the work out of your trip. Common add-ons on Kings Point listings: delivery and setup ($2 to $5 per mile or flat rate), generator hours ($3 to $5 per hour beyond the included allotment), kitchen kits and linens ($25 to $75 each), bikes, kayaks or paddleboards ($15 to $40 per day), camp chairs, outdoor grills, and propane refills. Pickup and dropoff are usually at the host's home, but many will meet you at a marina, hotel, or directly at your campground. Mileage allowances of 100 to 150 free miles per night are standard, with unlimited mileage available on many listings. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus linens on your first booking; it's worth every dollar to skip the laundromat hunt.
tax.ny.gov/bus/st/registration_requirements_for_businesses.htmHow do payments and the security deposit work?
Simple and secure. When you book your RV rental in Kings Point on RVezy, payment runs through the platform (never directly to the host), and the host's payout is held until after pickup, so you are protected. A refundable security deposit, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV's value, is placed as a hold a few days before your trip and released after return assuming no damage or extra cleaning. Tolls, propane refills, and overage mileage are reconciled after the trip. Pro tip: do a full walk-around video with the host at both pickup and dropoff. It is the single best habit for a smooth deposit return, especially with the salt air around Long Island Sound.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I park or stay overnight in an RV in Kings Point itself?
Here's the honest answer with a workaround: Kings Point and the broader NYC metro area heavily restrict overnight RV parking on residential streets, and Nassau County code generally prohibits sleeping in an RV outside a licensed campground. Rest areas on the Long Island Expressway and New York State Thruway allow short stops but not overnight camping (3-hour limit on NYSDOT areas, 4 hours on Thruway service areas). The fix: rent with delivery to a friend's driveway (with their permission) or head to a proper campground like Battle Row, Nickerson Beach, or Wildwood State Park. Pro tip: where to park an RV in Kings Point comes down to one rule, plan to sleep at a licensed campground and you'll never have a problem.
