Campgrounds and RV parks near Lake Katrine, NY

Lake Katrine sits in Ulster County, New York, just north of Kingston in the mid-Hudson Valley. The hamlet is roughly ten minutes from New York State Thruway exits 19 and 20, which makes it a practical staging point for RV trips into the Catskills to the west and the Hudson River corridor to the east. New Life Campground and other private grounds in the area operate on a seasonal warm-weather schedule, typically opening in spring and closing in mid-fall. RV travelers often split their time between private campgrounds close to town and state-run camping along the Hudson. Camp Goat Hill, Rip Van Winkle Campgrounds Inc, and Blue Mountain Campground are the closest private options, while Mills-Norrie State Park, made up of Margaret Lewis Norrie and Ogden and Ruth Livingston Mills State Parks, is bounded on the west by the Hudson River and lies a short drive across the river. The area works well for families who want a base camp within reach of Woodstock, Saugerties, Rhinebeck, and Hyde Park without committing to backcountry travel.

State campsites and private campgrounds use different systems. For Mills-Norrie, reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only. The New York State Parks reservation window is generous: camping reservations can be made up to nine months in advance, with same-day reservations allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival, so lock in summer weekends early. Private grounds such as New Life Campground, Camp Goat Hill, Rip Van Winkle Campgrounds Inc, and Blue Mountain Campground each handle their own bookings by phone or on their own websites. Confirm rig length and hookup limits before reserving, as older private parks in the area often cap length and offer only 30-amp service.
