Campgrounds near Larchmont, New York
Larchmont sits on Long Island Sound in southern Westchester County, roughly a 40-minute drive or Metro-North ride from Grand Central. The village itself has no campgrounds, but it works well as a starting point for RV trips into the Lower Hudson Valley, the New York City boroughs, and northern New Jersey. Options range from urban RV parking with skyline views to state-park campgrounds in forested terrain within an hour's drive.
The closest urban RV option is Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City, a waterfront site with views of the Manhattan skyline, Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island. For a national-park experience inside city limits, Floyd Bennett Field - Gateway National Recreational Area in Brooklyn offers hiking, biking, birding, and historic tours as part of Gateway National Recreation Area.
For a more traditional wooded stay, drive north to Beaver Pond Campground - Harriman State Park, which offers campsites for up to two tents and six persons per site, with select sites accommodating a trailer or RV up to 30 feet, next to Lake Welch and its swimming beach. Pelton Pond - Clarence Fahnestock State Park and Camp Wyanokie in northern New Jersey round out the nearby choices.
Things to do near Larchmont
Base out of Liberty Harbor RV Park for direct access to Manhattan attractions, including nearby ferry service and light rail into the city. Campers at Floyd Bennett Field - Gateway National Recreational Area can hike wooded trails, ride paved bike paths, visit historic hangars, and reach the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, where roughly 300 species of migratory birds have been recorded, including willets, green herons, and osprey.
For outdoor recreation upstate, Harriman State Park has more than 200 miles of trails and 31 lakes, with swimming, fishing, paddling, and hiking as core activities. At Clarence Fahnestock, Canopus Lake has a sandy shore and picnic area, fishing yields bass, pickerel, perch, and brook and rainbow trout, and rowboats and kayaks are available for rental. A section of the Appalachian Trail passes through the park.

Larchmont has four distinct seasons, and campground availability shifts sharply with them. Liberty Harbor RV Park operates year-round, so it remains the reliable off-season option for RV travelers in the metro area. Floyd Bennett Field - Gateway National Recreational Area is open April through October and offers tent and RV camping.
Harriman and Clarence Fahnestock follow the New York State Parks seasonal calendar, generally running from spring through late fall. Spring and summer are the busiest seasons at Harriman, and weekend sites at Beaver Pond fill quickly because of the park's proximity to New York City. Fall foliage in the Hudson Highlands typically peaks in mid to late October, drawing hikers and campers into November where weather permits.
Important planning note for Fahnestock: construction of a new campground bathhouse means Pelton Pond - Clarence Fahnestock State Park is closed for the 2026 season. Camp Wyanokie, a tent-only rustic camp, typically opens the first weekend in April and closes the last weekend in November, and does not accept RVs.

Here’s the updated version with the host included: RV Trip Review We just got back from our trip and had a great experience with this RV. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and ran really well throughout the entire trip. It had plenty of space for the family and made traveling together easy and enjoyable. Everything worked as expected, and we felt comfortable and confident on the road. The host was also incredibly supportive, friendly, and easy to communicate with. They made the whole rental experience smooth and stress-free. It was a great RV for a family trip(5 people), and we would definitely rent from this host again!

How to book campgrounds near Larchmont
New York State Park campgrounds, including Beaver Pond in Harriman and Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock, use the ReserveAmerica system. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance; sites become available at the 9-month window starting at 8AM Monday through Friday and 9AM Saturday and Sunday between March 15 and Labor Day. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival, and bookings can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center at 1-800-456-2267.
Floyd Bennett Field - Gateway National Recreational Area books through Recreation.gov, with reservations available up to six months in advance and a maximum stay of 14 nights. Liberty Harbor RV Park takes reservations directly through its website or by phone. Camp Wyanokie handles reservations through Campspot, with a maximum stay of seven nights per booking.
What to expect on site
Expectations vary widely by property. Liberty Harbor is urban and utilitarian, a fenced section within a marina area with basic hookups on a level surface and sites positioned close together. It suits travelers who want city access rather than a nature experience.
Beaver Pond in Harriman is rustic and popular. There are no electrical hookups for trailers, alcohol is not permitted, and pets are not allowed. Bear activity occurs in the area, and campers must follow bear habitat guidelines at all times. At Floyd Bennett Field, a dump station is available for RVs and there is a camp store with restrooms and showers.
Camp Wyanokie is the most primitive of the group: it does not accommodate RVs and has no running water, plumbing, electricity, or WiFi. Two latrines, fire pits, and charcoal grills serve the roughly 150-acre property.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Larchmont, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Larchmont, NY?
RV rental in Larchmont, NY is often more affordable than expected for the New York metro area. On RVezy, travel trailers typically run $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes range $175 to $325 per night, and Class A coaches generally start around $275. Because hosts set their own pricing, you can find budget-friendly RV rental Larchmont options especially mid-week and during shoulder seasons (April, May, late September, and October). Pro tip: filter by Instant Book and look for listings within a 15-mile radius of Larchmont, including Mamaroneck, New Rochelle, and White Plains, to score the best weeknight deals along the Long Island Sound shore.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Larchmont,%20New%20YorkDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Larchmont?
Good news: a regular New York State driver's license (or your home state/country equivalent) is all you need to rent an RV in Larchmont, NY. No commercial driver's license (CDL) or RV endorsement is required for any of the Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, or fifth wheels you'll find on RVezy. You'll just need to meet RVezy's approved driver requirements (generally 25 or older), and RVezy verifies your ID inside the platform during booking. Visiting from overseas? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto association before flying in, and you're cleared to roll down I-95 toward your first campground.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included?
Yes, every RV rental in Larchmont, NY booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit I-95 or head toward the Hudson Valley with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the vehicle, and you (the guest) choose your preferred coverage tier during checkout, not the host. Coverage details and limits are transparent and shown before you confirm. Pro tip: pick your protection tier based on how far you're driving. A weekend at Bear Mountain calls for different coverage than a two-week loop through Vermont and the Adirondacks.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my plans change?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy for every reservation, and it includes a full money-back grace period right after booking, so you can lock in your Larchmont RV trip with confidence. Refund eligibility after that depends mainly on how many days remain before pickup. Because the policy is managed at the platform level, you won't see different cancellation terms on individual listings. If a host ever needs to cancel, RVezy refunds your booking or helps rebook you. Pro tip: book early for summer weekends along the Long Island Sound shore, then relax knowing the policy is clear and consistent.

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Larchmont options are easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter to see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Larchmont itself is a dog lover's town, with Manor Park's waterfront paths along Long Island Sound and the leash-friendly trails at nearby Saxon Woods Park in White Plains. Heading further afield? Bear Mountain State Park, about 40 miles north, allows leashed dogs on most trails. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any size limits, and pack a portable water bowl, your pup will thank you on summer beach walks at Hudson Park in nearby New Rochelle.
parks.ny.gov/recreation/pets/default.aspxCan the RV be delivered to me in Larchmont?
Yes, RV delivery in Larchmont is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if you'd rather not drive a motorhome through Westchester's tight streets or worry about the Hutchinson River Parkway (which has low clearances and prohibits most RVs). Many hosts will deliver and set up your motorhome rental directly at your destination, whether that's a campground like Croton Point Park, a venue in Greenwich, or a private driveway. Filter listings by Delivery to see hosts offering this service. Pro tip: ask about a full setup package, the host levels the RV, connects hookups, and walks you through every system before handing over the keys.

For a true New York City overnight base, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City (25 miles south) offers PATH train access to Manhattan. Every host provides a hands-on orientation walkthrough covering the generator, water systems, propane, slide-outs, leveling, and dumping, you're never handed keys and waved off. You can also message the host with questions before you book, and many Larchmont-area hosts specialize in helping new renters. If you're nervous about driving through the dense Westchester suburbs, pick a Class B campervan or travel trailer under 24 feet, or simply book a host who offers delivery. Pro tip: schedule pickup mid-morning so you have full daylight to learn your rig and reach your campground before dark.
dmv.ny.gov/new-york-state-drivers-manual-practice-testsWhat happens if something breaks down on my trip?
You're covered: every RVezy booking in Larchmont, NY includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're on I-95 in Rye, on the Taconic State Parkway, or up in the Berkshires. Roadside support handles flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and fuel delivery. For RV-specific issues like a finicky water heater or slide-out, message your host directly through the RVezy app, they know their rig best and can usually walk you through a fix in minutes. Pro tip: take a quick video of your orientation walkthrough at pickup, it's the fastest way to troubleshoot anything on the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Larchmont RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Absolutely, interstate travel is standard for an RV road trip from Larchmont, and your RVezy protection package covers travel throughout the United States, so New England, the Mid-Atlantic, and beyond are all on the table. Cross-border trips into Canada are sometimes permitted but depend on the individual host and the insurance terms, so message the host before booking if you're planning to cross at, say, the Champlain or Niagara crossings. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental due to insurance restrictions. Pro tip: popular multi-state routes from Larchmont include the Vermont/New Hampshire foliage loop (about 600 miles round trip) and the Cape Cod and Acadia coastal run.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat should I budget for fuel on a Larchmont RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable cost on any RV trip, but easy to plan for. Westchester County gas prices typically run 30 to 50 cents above the national average, so fill up just before returning if you can swing it. Realistic mileage: Class B campervans get 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 mpg, and large Class A coaches average 6 to 10 mpg. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop in a Class C, budget roughly $200 to $275 in fuel. Pro tip: gas is meaningfully cheaper just over the border in New Jersey, fill up in Fort Lee or Paramus if your route loops west.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Larchmont?
Book early and you'll have your pick of the best sites near Larchmont. New York State Parks (including Harriman, Bear Mountain, and Croton Point) open reservations 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and summer weekends at Hudson Valley parks routinely sell out by March. Westchester County Parks like Croton Point handle their own reservations and also book up fast for July and August. Private RV parks like Black Bear Campground accept bookings 6 to 12 months out. Pro tip: if you're flexible, target Sunday-through-Thursday stays, you'll find availability even in peak summer, plus rates are often 20 to 30 percent lower than weekend pricing.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Larchmont?
Driving an RV around Larchmont is very manageable with one critical rule: stay off the parkways. New York's Hutchinson River, Merritt, Bronx River, and Saw Mill River Parkways all prohibit commercial vehicles and most RVs due to low stone-arch bridges (some as low as 6'9"). Stick to I-95 (New England Thruway), I-287, I-684, and the New York State Thruway (I-87), which welcome RVs. Westchester traffic peaks weekdays 7 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m., so time your departure accordingly. Pro tip: download an RV-specific GPS app like RV Life or CoPilot before pickup, standard car GPS will happily route you onto a parkway and into trouble.

Campgrounds within an hour or two of Larchmont generally offer the full RV camping experience. Croton Point Park has 30/50-amp electric, water hookups, a dump station, hot showers, and Hudson River swimming. Harriman State Park's Beaver Pond Campground offers electric sites, restrooms, and easy hiking access. Black Bear Campground provides full hookups (water, sewer, electric), Wi-Fi, a pool, and a camp store. For a quick dump-and-fill between trips, the dump station at Croton Point Park is the closest convenient option north of the city. Pro tip: most Northeast campgrounds shut off water lines mid-October to prevent freeze damage, so fill your fresh tank before arrival if you're traveling late-season.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What's actually inside the RVs I can rent in Larchmont?
RVs available for rent in Larchmont, NY come surprisingly well-equipped. Expect a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink, and pots/pans; a bathroom with toilet and shower (in most Class B+, Class C, and travel trailers); sleeping for 2 to 8 people depending on the rig; air conditioning, furnace, and often a generator for off-grid power. Many newer rentals include a flat-screen TV, Bluetooth stereo, USB charging, and onboard or hotspot Wi-Fi. Seatbelts are provided for every traveling passenger, never exceed that number. Pro tip: a campervan rental Larchmont (Class B) is the easiest to drive and park in tight Westchester driveways, while a Class C is the family RV trip Larchmont favorite for groups of 4 to 6.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
RVezy hosts in the Larchmont area offer a long list of add-ons that make your trip smoother: bedding and linen packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, generators, bike racks, kayak/SUP racks, and pre-stocked propane tanks. Pickup is typically at the host's home (often in Larchmont, New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, Rye, or White Plains), but many hosts offer delivery to local campgrounds, the New Rochelle Marina, Westchester County Airport, or nearby train stations. Daily mileage allowances are set by each host, so confirm the included miles before booking. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a bedding package on your first trip, the extra cost is small versus the hassle saved on pickup day.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Larchmont,%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure on RVezy: you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, and your trip total covers the nightly rate, any add-ons, the protection plan you select, taxes, and the service fee. A security deposit is handled separately from your booking payment and is typically authorized (not charged) against your card before pickup, then released after the host confirms the RV came back clean, fueled, and undamaged. Deposit amounts vary by listing and are clearly shown at checkout, so there are no surprises. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video with the host at both pickup and drop-off in Larchmont, it's the single best way to ensure your full deposit comes back without issue.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Larchmont?
Larchmont is one of the best launching pads in the Northeast for an RV road trip. Top routes include: Bear Mountain and Harriman State Parks (40 miles, under an hour) for instant hiking and Hudson views; the Catskills around Phoenicia and Woodstock (110 miles, 2 hours) for waterfalls and tubing; Cape Cod and the Islands (220 miles, 4.5 hours) for classic New England beaches; the Berkshires in Massachusetts (135 miles, 2.5 hours) for Tanglewood and fall foliage; and Acadia National Park, Maine (450 miles, 8 hours) for a bucket-list coastal adventure. Pro tip: leave Larchmont before 7 a.m. on Friday to beat the I-95 and Tappan Zee Bridge traffic, you'll save 60 to 90 minutes heading north or east.
