Campgrounds and RV parks near Liberty, NY

Liberty sits in Sullivan County in the western Catskills of New York, roughly 90 miles north of New York City and easily reached from Route 17 (future I-86) and the NYS Thruway. The surrounding hills, rivers, and forest preserve make it a practical base for RV travelers heading into the lower Catskill region, with elevations in the area generally between 1,500 and 2,000 feet. Most RV camping around Liberty is at privately owned parks. Covered Bridge Campsite and Happy Days Campground are close-in options, while Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Birchwood Acres offers a family-focused resort format with cabins and hookup sites. Roscoe Campsites sits west toward the Beaverkill and Willowemoc fly-fishing waters, and Skyway Camping Resort provides a larger seasonal park with full amenities. Public camping is also within reach. New York State DEC campgrounds in the Catskill Forest Preserve, such as Little Pond near Livingston Manor, book through the state's ReserveAmerica system and add rustic, wooded sites to the mix.

Private parks handle their own reservations. Covered Bridge Campsite, Happy Days Campground, Roscoe Campsites, Skyway Camping Resort, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Birchwood Acres take bookings directly by phone or through their websites. For summer weekends and holidays, reserving several months out is recommended, and many parks require a multi-night minimum on weekends. New York State DEC campgrounds in the Catskill Forest Preserve book through ReserveAmerica. Reservations open up to nine months in advance, and same-day reservations are accepted online or by phone until 5 p.m. on the day of arrival. Sites at popular campgrounds become available at the nine-month window at set morning times and can go quickly on peak dates. Bring proof of current rabies vaccination if traveling with a dog, and plan to buy firewood locally, since untreated out-of-state firewood is not permitted in New York.
