Campgrounds and RV parks near Lincoln Park, NY

The Catskill region west of Lincoln Park offers hiking, fire-tower climbs, swimming holes, and paddling on smaller lakes and reservoirs. Day trips can reach Kaaterskill Falls and the Escarpment Trail on the northern edge of the Catskill Park. Along the Hudson, Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park offers hiking trails, a beach, picnic areas, boating, fishing, and birding, along with a marina and boat launch. The park sits inside the Mills-Norrie-Staatsburgh Bird Conservation Area, where songbirds are abundant along the forest banks of the Hudson during spring and fall migration. Hyde Park, Rhinebeck, and Poughkeepsie are all short drives away and provide restaurants, groceries, and historic sites including the Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site and the Staatsburgh State Historic Site.

The Hudson Valley and Catskills have four distinct seasons, with warm summers and cold, snowy winters. Summer is the busiest camping season, and popular state-park sites fill quickly on weekends. Many area campgrounds operate only from late spring through mid-fall, so trip dates should be matched to each site's operating calendar. Mills-Norrie's campground, for example, runs on a spring-to-fall season and takes reservations through the state portal. Spring brings blooming landscapes and returning migratory songbirds along the Hudson, and it is a strong window for hiking before biting insects peak. Fall is prime for foliage color from mid-September into early November, especially on Catskill ridgelines and along the river bluffs. Winter access varies. Mills-Norrie State Park itself is open year-round from sunrise to sunset, with the Mills estate grounds open to cross-country skiers, but the campground is a warm-weather operation. DEC campgrounds in the Catskills close in the off-season, while the region remains active for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

Expect wooded sites and mixed hardwood forest on both the Catskill and Hudson sides of the trip. State-park campsites tend to sit closer together than private RV parks and typically have limited or no hookups, so RVers relying on power, water, and sewer connections should confirm each site's amenities in advance. This is bear country. Black bears live throughout the Catskills and lower Hudson Valley, and food and trash should be stored securely. New York restricts moving untreated firewood more than 50 miles from its source, so plan to buy firewood locally. Quiet hours at state campgrounds run from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., pets must be leashed with proof of rabies vaccination available on request, and firearms are prohibited in state park campgrounds.
