Central New York has a humid continental climate with a sharp seasonal contrast. Most private campgrounds in the McGraw and Cortland area operate on a spring-to-fall calendar. Yellow Lantern Kamp Grounds, for example, runs a mid-April through mid-October season, and neighboring parks follow a similar window. Summer is the peak booking window. Family sites, full-hookup pull-throughs, and cabins fill fast for weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day, especially around SUNY Cortland move-in dates, holiday weekends, and events at Cortlands Country Music Park and Campground. Reserving several weeks out is normal, and popular waterfront sites in the wider Finger Lakes region can go months in advance. Late spring and early fall bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and strong foliage color from late September into mid-October. Winter camping options are limited, while Greek Peak drives lodging demand from December through March.

Matt was incredible from start to finish. Replies almost immediately to all messages and questions from time of booking, leading up to the trip and during your trip. The RV was immaculate on the outside, the entire cabin, refrigerator, bathrooms, etc. And it came with everything we would need for the trip. Was our first time staying in an RV - Matt showed up promptly when he said he would (even earlier), set up everything for our stay and walked me through everything we needed to know to use and enjoy the RV for a week. I would highly recommend Matt to anyone and would certainly book with him again!

What to expect on the ground

Private parks near McGraw skew family-oriented, with pools, playgrounds, laundry, and themed weekend events. Yellow Lantern Kamp Grounds spans about 40 acres along the Tioughnioga River, with flat sites sized for the smallest to the largest RVs, full hookups on some sites, a dump station, restrooms with showers, two playgrounds, and a swimming pool. Big rigs are generally accommodated on the pull-throughs, though 50-amp service is not universal, so confirm amperage in advance. Cell coverage is reliable close to Cortland and along US-11 and I-81.
