Campgrounds and RV parks near Middletown, NY

The surrounding region is built for outdoor days. The Neversink and Delaware rivers draw anglers, tubers, and kayakers, and KOA Holiday Deerpark New York City sits along the Neversink, which is known for fly-fishing, swimming, tubing, and kayaking. Oakland Valley Campground fronts the same river, where guests can fish from wooded riverfront sites. Hikers can reach the Appalachian Trail at Wawayanda State Park, which contains a 20-mile stretch of the AT within roughly 60 miles of marked trails, plus a swimming beach and boat rentals on Lake Wawayanda. Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, Resorts World Catskills in Monticello, and the Delaware and Hudson Canal historic sites near Cuddebackville add rainy-day and evening options. Black Bear Campground and Catskill RV Resort both offer pools and playgrounds that keep families occupied between day trips.

The main camping season in this part of New York runs from April through late October, which matches the operating window of most private and public campgrounds in the area. KOA Holiday Deerpark New York City opens April 1 and closes October 31, with its pool running from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Wawayanda State Park also operates April 1 to October 31. Summer is peak season. July and August bring warm, humid weather with average highs in the low 80s Fahrenheit and the region's heaviest rainfall, so weekends fill quickly and reservations should be made well in advance. Late spring and early fall are quieter, with cooler nights and lower demand; fall foliage typically peaks from early to mid-October across the Catskills and Shawangunks. Winter is cold and snowy, and most private parks close or scale back. Black Bear Campground is a notable exception, staying open year-round with 50-amp full hookups and heated water spigots, making it one of the few options for cold-weather RV travel in the Middletown area.

Expect a mix of amenity levels. Full-service parks such as Black Bear Campground and Catskill RV Resort offer 30- and 50-amp hookups, pools, laundry, playgrounds, and camp stores, and can accommodate big rigs. KOA Holiday Deerpark New York City provides 30- and 50-amp sites, water and sewer at select sites, pull-throughs for large rigs, a pool, playground, and a jumping pillow and mining sluice for kids. Oakland Valley Campground is more rustic, with wooded and riverfront sites along the Neversink. Wawayanda State Park is the most basic: no hookups, no showers, and no water at individual campsites (water must be carried from the main office), with a focus on tent and small-trailer camping. Cell coverage varies across the hills and valleys, so downloading maps in advance is wise.
