Campgrounds near Miller Place, New York
Miller Place sits on Long Island's North Shore in Suffolk County, roughly halfway between the Nassau line and Orient Point. RV renters use it as a base for beach camping on both the Long Island Sound and Atlantic sides of the island, with a short drive to state parks and ferry-access barrier islands.
The closest option is Wildwood State Park in Wading River, a New York State Parks facility on a bluff above Long Island Sound with wooded sites and a mix of trailer and tent loops. Farther west along the south shore, Heckscher State Park offers a large campground at the edge of the Great South Bay. Watch Hill Campground on Fire Island National Seashore is reachable only by ferry from Patchogue and does not accept RVs, but it is a common add-on trip for families basing an RV nearby.
Inland options include Totoket Valley RV Park and Kettletown State Park across Long Island Sound in Connecticut, both within driving range for a longer loop trip.
Things to do near Miller Place
Wildwood State Park has direct beach access on Long Island Sound, hiking trails through mixed hardwood forest, and a bluff overlook. The Sound waters are calmer than the ocean side, which suits families with younger children. Heckscher State Park adds bay swimming, a bike path connecting to the wider Suffolk County trail network, and shoreline fishing.
Day trips from Miller Place reach the North Fork wineries, Orient Point, and the Hamptons. On the south shore, the Patchogue ferry terminal delivers hikers to Watch Hill Campground and the Otis Pike Fire Island High Dune Wilderness for a beach and dune day away from the RV.
Inland at Kettletown State Park, visitors get lake swimming on Lake Zoar and trails into the Connecticut hills.

The Long Island camping season runs from spring through mid-fall. Wildwood State Park and Heckscher State Park operate their campgrounds from spring into October under New York State Parks scheduling, with the full slate of amenities available Memorial Day through Labor Day. Watch Hill Campground on Fire Island typically opens in mid-May and closes in mid-October, matching the ferry season out of Patchogue.
Summer is the busiest window. July and August weekends fill months in advance, and Fire Island enforces multi-night minimums on peak-season weekends and holiday periods. Late June and early September offer warm water and thinner crowds, and are a good target for RV renters who can travel midweek.
Winter closes most campgrounds in the region. Coastal storms and nor'easters can affect access roads and ferry service into late spring and again through the fall hurricane season, so travelers should check park alerts before departure.

We rented this RV from August 21–25, and from beginning to end, we had an absolutely wonderful experience. Charlie and Margaret were amazing hosts! Their communication was excellent, and they were always helpful, friendly, responsive, and very professional. They truly made the entire experience easy and enjoyable. The RV itself was beautiful, modern, extremely clean, and very well maintained. As soon as we walked inside, we were impressed. The lighting throughout the RV was fantastic—there were plenty of lights, which made the space feel bright, comfortable, and welcoming. The bathroom was extremely clean and surprisingly spacious. The bedroom was large, comfortable, and cozy, with plenty of storage space for clothes and personal belongings. We never felt cramped at all. The kitchen was one of our favorite features. It was beautiful and spacious, with a long countertop that gave us plenty of room to prepare meals. Charlie and Margaret really thought of everything. The cabinets and drawers were stocked with pots, pans, plates, utensils, and everything else we needed. They even provided plenty of cleaning supplies, including a broom, vacuum, Lysol wipes, and more. What impressed us most was how much this RV truly felt like a home away from home. We had everything we needed—and honestly, even more than we expected. You can tell Charlie and Margaret put a lot of thought and care into making sure their guests are comfortable and have a great experience. Whether you’re going camping, attending an outdoor event, or simply looking for a comfortable RV getaway, I would highly recommend renting from Charlie and Margaret. Beautiful RV, outstanding hosts, excellent communication, and a five-star experience all around. Thank you, Charlie and Margaret, for helping make our trip so comfortable and memorable! We would absolutely rent from you again! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

How to book near Miller Place
New York State Parks campgrounds, including Wildwood State Park and Heckscher State Park, are reserved through the ReserveAmerica system, with reservations opening nine months in advance. Popular summer weekends are claimed as soon as they open, so set a reminder for the release date if targeting a specific holiday.
Watch Hill Campground on Fire Island National Seashore is operated by a park concessioner rather than the National Park Service directly, so reservations go through the concessioner's booking channel rather than Recreation.gov. Weekend and holiday stays require multi-night minimums during peak season.
Private parks such as Totoket Valley RV Park take reservations directly through the campground. For any option, book full hookups early if the RV needs 30 or 50 amp service.
What to expect at Miller Place campgrounds
Sites at Wildwood State Park have picnic tables, and dumping stations are nearby. Heckscher State Park uses a similar loop layout with picnic tables and fire rings. Hookup availability varies by loop, so match the site type to the rig before booking. Cell service is generally reliable across the North Shore and along the Great South Bay.
Fire Island is a car-free barrier island. RVs stay on the mainland at Patchogue-area lots, and campers board the ferry with gear for Watch Hill. Sites there are sand tent pads and safari tents, not RV pads.
Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late spring through early fall across Long Island. Bring repellent, check for ticks after hikes, and expect sandy conditions at any shoreline site.

discoverlongisland.com/where-to-stay/campgrounds-rv-parks/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Miller Place?
Good news: a regular New York driver's license (or any valid US/Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Miller Place. No commercial driver's license (CDL) and no RV endorsement required, even for big Class A motorhomes. You'll just need to be 25 or older, since that's RVezy's approved driver minimum age. ID verification happens right inside the RVezy platform during booking, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from overseas? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto association before you fly in, and you're set to explore the North Shore.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection comes with my Miller Place RV rental?
Every RV rental in Miller Place booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Route 25A with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV, and you choose your coverage tier during checkout (not the host), so you can dial in the comfort level you want. Plans also include liability coverage that meets state requirements. Pro tip: review the plan tiers before you book, and if you're a first-time renter, the higher-tier option pairs nicely with your first drive out to Wildwood State Park.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Miller Place RV trip?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy across the platform, and there's a money-back grace period after you book so you can lock in your dates without stress. If a hurricane brushes Long Island or a nor'easter rolls in off the Atlantic, RVezy's team factors weather and natural events into how cancellations are handled. Because hosts don't choose their own policy, terms stay consistent whether you're renting a campervan in Miller Place or a fifth wheel in Riverhead. Pro tip: book early to secure summer Wildwood State Park weekends, knowing you've got that grace window if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Miller Place RV trip?
Absolutely, plenty of pups roll out of Miller Place every weekend. Use the 'Pet-Friendly' filter on RVezy to instantly see every pet-friendly RV rental Miller Place hosts offer, from cozy campervans to family-size Class C motorhomes. Once you're rolling, leashed dogs are welcome at Wildwood State Park and at Indian Island County Park in Riverhead, and you can stroll the beach with your dog at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai during the off-season (typically October through March). Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and ask for any tips on securing crates while driving, most are happy to help.
parks.ny.gov/recreation/dogs/Can the RV be delivered to my campsite near Miller Place?
Yes, RV delivery Miller Place style is one of the most popular ways to travel here, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will drive the rig straight to Wildwood State Park, Indian Island County Park, or even your driveway, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. You skip the highway-driving learning curve entirely and start your vacation relaxed. To find it fast, toggle the 'Delivery' filter on the Miller Place search page. Pro tip: ask about delivery to Cedar Beach or Smith Point County Park, hosts often quote a flat fee based on miles from Miller Place.

Heading west, you can be in New York City in about 60 miles, or cross into Connecticut via the Port Jefferson-Bridgeport ferry to reach Hammonasset Beach State Park (about 50 miles total). dot.ny.gov/regional-offices/region10Where are the best campgrounds near Miller Place, NY?
You're spoiled for choice. The closest and most beloved is Wildwood State Park in Wading River (about 8 miles east), 600 acres of hardwood forest on a bluff over Long Island Sound with electric sites. Indian Island County Park in Riverhead offers waterfront sites along Flanders Bay (about 25 miles east). For ocean camping, Hither Hills State Park in Montauk has beachfront sites with dramatic dunes. Cedar Point County Park in East Hampton sits inside a quiet forest near the Hamptons, and Smith Point County Park on Fire Island delivers true barrier-beach camping. Pro tip: New York State Park campgrounds book up to 9 months ahead, so plan your RV camping Miller Place itinerary early.
parks.ny.gov/camping/campsites/default.aspxWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Miller Place?
Miller Place shines from late May through early October, with July and August averaging highs of 82°F and warm 70°F nights perfect for grilling outside the RV. The real local secret is September: ocean water is still swimmable, North Fork vineyards are buzzing with harvest, and campground rates ease up after Labor Day. Late April through mid-May brings blooming dogwoods and 60s by day, ideal for hiking Wildwood's bluff trails without crowds. Winter rentals are limited since most Long Island campgrounds close November through mid-April, but a few year-round options like Indian Island County Park stay open. Pro tip: book Memorial Day and July 4 weekends at least 4-6 months ahead.
weather.gov/okx/I've never rented an RV before. Is Miller Place a good place to start?
Miller Place is honestly one of the easiest spots in the Northeast for a first time renting an RV. Your host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering the propane, water, electrical, leveling, and waste systems, and most are reachable by text throughout your trip. Roads along Route 25A and the local routes to Wildwood State Park are flat, two-lane, and low-traffic compared to NYC. If you're still nervous, skip driving entirely by choosing a host who offers RV delivery Miller Place service. Pro tip: when you book, ask the host for a quick video orientation before pickup day so you arrive already familiar with the rig.
dmv.ny.gov/about-dmv/chapter-11-defensive-drivingWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every booking on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you have a flat on the Long Island Expressway, a dead battery at Wildwood State Park, or a propane issue at Indian Island County Park, help is just one call away. Your host is also typically reachable by phone or in-app message and is often the fastest first call for system questions like how to retract the awning. RVezy's customer support team backs you up before, during, and after the trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the pickup driveway in Miller Place.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Miller Place RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome and very popular. An RV road trip from Miller Place commonly heads into Connecticut via the Port Jefferson-Bridgeport ferry, down to New Jersey via the Verrazzano Bridge, or up through New England toward Acadia in Maine. Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on your specific host and the protection package; just message the host directly through the listing before booking to confirm. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because the protection coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: a classic 7-day loop runs Miller Place to Mystic, CT, up to the White Mountains, then back via the Mass Pike.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat should I budget for fuel on a Miller Place RV trip?
Plan smart and fuel won't blow up your budget. Most Class C motorhomes around Miller Place average 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans get 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Long Island gas prices typically run 30 to 50 cents above the national average, so fill up off-island in Connecticut or in inland Suffolk County stations along Route 25 where prices are friendlier than the Hamptons. For a 4-night trip with 300 miles driven in a Class C, budget roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: the Costco in Holbrook, about 20 minutes from Miller Place, regularly has the cheapest diesel and gas in the area.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Miller Place?
Book early and you'll lock in the best sites. New York State Park campgrounds, including Wildwood State Park, Hither Hills, and Heckscher State Park, open reservations 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica and they fill quickly for summer weekends. Suffolk County parks like Indian Island and Cedar Point handle their own reservations through the Suffolk County Parks system, and Nassau County's Nickerson Beach requires a Leisure Pass before booking. For July and August weekends, aim to reserve in January or February. Pro tip: if you missed the 9-month window, check ReserveAmerica every Monday morning for cancellation openings, they pop up constantly during peak Long Island season.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What's driving an RV in the Miller Place area actually like?
It's much easier than driving an RV in Manhattan. Route 25A through Miller Place is a calm two-lane road, and most local campgrounds connect via flat Suffolk County roads with reasonable shoulders. The big things to watch: the Long Island Expressway (I-495) can crawl on Friday afternoons heading east and Sunday evenings heading west, so plan around that. Avoid the Northern State and Southern State Parkways entirely, they ban commercial vehicles and most RVs due to low bridge clearances (some as low as 7 feet 7 inches). Stick to I-495, Route 25, and Route 27. Pro tip: leave Miller Place before 9 a.m. or after 7 p.m. on summer Fridays to dodge Hamptons-bound traffic.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/systems-optimization-section/parkwaysWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Miller Place?
Most campgrounds near Miller Place offer the essentials and then some. Wildwood State Park has electric hookups at many sites, hot showers, flush restrooms, and a dump station, but no individual sewer or water hookups, you fill your fresh tank at the entrance. Indian Island County Park offers electric and water hookups plus a dump station. For full hookups (electric, water, sewer at the site), look at private parks like Eastern Long Island Kampground in Greenport, about 35 miles east. Most Long Island campgrounds also have potable water fills near the dump station. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank before leaving the host's driveway in Miller Place so you've got flexibility wherever you camp.
parks.ny.gov/parks/wildwood/details.aspxWhat features and equipment come standard in a Miller Place RV rental?
You'll be impressed by how well-equipped most rigs are. A typical motorhome rental Miller Place listing includes a queen or king bed, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, a furnace, and seatbelted seats for travel. Many also include a TV, outdoor awning, generator, and outdoor speakers, perfect for family RV trip Miller Place evenings at Wildwood. Campervan rental Miller Place options are more compact but still include sleeping, cooking, and often a wet bath. Pro tip: every RVezy listing has a detailed amenity list, filter by 'sleeps count' and scan for must-haves like generator or solar before you message the host.
energy.gov/energysaver/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and options can I get with my RV rental?
Hosts in Miller Place offer great extras to make your trip easier. Common add-ons include kitchen kits (pots, pans, dishes), bedding and linens packages, camping chairs, outdoor grills, generators, bike racks, and even kayaks or stand-up paddleboards, perfect for launching at Cedar Beach. Pickup and dropoff typically happen at the host's home in Miller Place or surrounding North Shore towns, though many offer delivery for a flat fee. Mileage allowances are clearly listed on each RVezy listing, and some hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. Pro tip: bundle linens and a kitchen kit if you're flying in, you'll save a grocery run and skip checked-bag headaches.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Miller+Place%2C+New+YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and protected. You pay through RVezy's secure platform with a credit or debit card; never pay a host directly or off-platform. A security deposit is held (not charged) on your card before pickup. The amount is set per listing and clearly shown on the booking page, typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV's value. As long as you return the rig clean, with the same fuel level, and undamaged, the hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff in Miller Place; it's the easiest way to avoid deposit disputes and get your hold released fast.
