Campgrounds near Monsey, New York
Monsey sits in Rockland County just west of the Hudson River, roughly 25 miles north of the George Washington Bridge. That location puts RV travelers within a short drive of two very different camping worlds: the forested lakes and mountains of the Lower Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey Highlands, and the urban RV parking of the Jersey City waterfront across from Manhattan.
The closest option is Beaver Pond Campground - Harriman State Park, which adjoins the Lake Welch Recreation Area within Harriman State Park. Additional public-land camping sits west and south of Monsey at Camp Wyanokie on the edge of Norvin Green State Forest, and at Wawayanda State Park in the New Jersey Highlands.
For full-hookup RV travel, Black Bear Campground in Orange County offers year-round sites, while Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City functions as a base camp for visiting New York City by ferry and PATH train.
Things to do near Monsey
Harriman State Park is the main draw. The park has more than 200 miles of trails maintained by the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, along with 31 lakes and two swimming beaches, including Lake Welch adjacent to the campground. Swimming is permitted only when lifeguards are on duty.
Across the state line, Wawayanda State Park offers a lake, boat rentals, and over 60 miles of well-marked trails, plus a 19.6 mile section of the Appalachian Trail that is restricted to hiking. Nearby Norvin Green State Forest, reached from Camp Wyanokie, is a hiking-only forest known for Wyanokie High Point, which on clear days offers views toward the New York City skyline.
Guests at Liberty Harbor RV Park can reach Manhattan by ferry or PATH train without driving into the city.

The camping season around Monsey is shaped by state park calendars. Beaver Pond Campground operates as a warm-weather campground with a swimming beach open only when lifeguards are on duty. Wawayanda State Park camping is seasonal, with the campground open April 1 to October 31.
Summer is peak. Harriman sits within about an hour of New York City and is a favored weekend getaway, so weekend bookings should be made as far in advance as possible. Weekdays and shoulder-season weekends are noticeably quieter. Fall brings foliage across the Highlands, and Wawayanda's higher elevation supports winter recreation. At 1,140 feet above sea level, Wawayanda receives significant snow accumulations in winter, and cross-country skiing is permitted on designated trails.
For year-round RV travel, Black Bear Campground and Liberty Harbor RV Park both stay open through the winter months, giving RVers a base near the metro area when state park sites are closed.

Here’s the updated version with the host included: RV Trip Review We just got back from our trip and had a great experience with this RV. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and ran really well throughout the entire trip. It had plenty of space for the family and made traveling together easy and enjoyable. Everything worked as expected, and we felt comfortable and confident on the road. The host was also incredibly supportive, friendly, and easy to communicate with. They made the whole rental experience smooth and stress-free. It was a great RV for a family trip(5 people), and we would definitely rent from this host again!

How to book a site
New York and New Jersey state parks use separate reservation systems. Beaver Pond Campground - Harriman State Park books through ReserveAmerica, with reservations available up to 9 months in advance. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival for campsites only, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites.
Wawayanda State Park uses New Jersey's system, with online reservations at camping.nj.gov. Camp Wyanokie is administered locally, and paid reservations are required for the campsites and the Lion's Den picnic pavilion; overnight camping is restricted to permitted sites.
Black Bear Campground and Liberty Harbor RV Park take reservations directly through their operator websites or by phone.
What to expect on-site
Beaver Pond is a rustic public campground. Sites accommodate up to two tents and six persons, and select sites can fit a trailer or RV up to 30 feet long, with picnic table, fire ring, and shared full-service bathrooms centrally located. Comfort stations, showers, laundry, and a dump station are on site. There are no electrical hookups for trailers, alcohol is not permitted, and pets are not allowed. Bears are active in the area, so food storage rules apply.
Black Bear Campground is the RV-focused option in the region, offering full-hookup sites and operating year round. Liberty Harbor RV Park is urban and utilitarian, functioning as a fenced section within a Jersey City marina with basic hookups on a level gravel surface, best used as a staging area for exploring the city rather than a traditional campground.

Use the Delivery filter when searching, and message the host to confirm the fee (typically based on mileage from their location). Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY (about 25 miles) is open year-round with full 30/50-amp hookups and laundry, great for bigger rigs. The Newburgh / New York City North KOA (about 40 miles north) is a family favorite with a pool and full hookups. For waterfront views, look toward Hudson River sites near West Point. Reserve Beaver Pond up to 9 months ahead through ReserveAmerica, summer weekends sell out fast.
parks.ny.gov/parks/harrimanWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Monsey?
Late April through late October is prime time for RV camping in Monsey, with the absolute sweet spot being mid-September to late October when Hudson Valley fall foliage explodes in orange and red along the Palisades Parkway. Summer (June to August) brings warm 75 to 85°F days perfect for swimming at Lake Welch, but it's also the busiest, so book early. Spring (May) is quiet, green, and budget-friendly, though nights can dip into the 40s. Winter RV trips are possible from Monsey if your rental has heated tanks and you're heading to year-round campgrounds like Black Bear, just expect 20 to 35°F nights and snow on higher elevation roads. Insider tip: Columbus Day weekend is peak leaf-peeping; book your rig by July.
weather.gov/okx/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay picking one up in Monsey?
You'll do great, first time renting an RV from Monsey is genuinely easier than most people expect, especially because every RVezy host gives a thorough walkthrough at pickup covering driving, hookups, slide-outs, and waste tanks. If you're nervous about narrow roads or low bridges in the metro NYC area, choose a Class B campervan or a 20 to 25-foot Class C, both drive much like a large van. Even better, ask for delivery so the host parks it for you at the campground. The drive north from Monsey on the Palisades Interstate Parkway (which bans commercial trucks) is one of the most beginner-friendly RV routes in the Northeast: scenic, well-paved, and gentle on grades.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037943573-First-time-RV-renter-tipsWhat happens if something breaks down during my Monsey RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat on the New York State Thruway, run into engine trouble near Bear Mountain, or have a propane issue at Beaver Pond, one phone call dispatches help. Your host is also a direct lifeline for quirks specific to their RV (the slide-out switch, the inverter, etc.), and most respond within minutes. RVezy's customer support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number and your host's number in your phone before you leave the driveway, then enjoy the ride knowing you're fully covered.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityCan I take my Monsey RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes to most of the Northeast, with a couple of important notes. Crossing into New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, and beyond is welcomed by most RVezy hosts: popular RV road trip from Monsey routes include the Jersey Shore (about 90 minutes south), Lake George (about 3.5 hours north), and the Acadia National Park gateway (8 to 9 hours northeast). Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and their insurance coverage, so message the host directly before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance limitations. Always tell your host your intended route at booking, it helps them confirm coverage and offer local tips.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Realistic MPG keeps your Monsey RV budget honest: Class A motorhomes average 7 to 10 MPG, Class C around 10 to 14 MPG, campervans 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically a 25 to 40% hit on its normal MPG). Gas prices in Rockland County tend to run above the national average, so consider filling up just over the border in New Jersey, where gas is consistently cheaper and attendants pump for you. For a weekend trip to Harriman (about 60 miles round trip), budget roughly $30 to $60 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: Costco in Nanuet has some of the lowest pump prices in the area.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Monsey?
For summer weekends and fall foliage season, book 4 to 6 months ahead: popular spots like Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman State Park release reservations 9 months out through ReserveAmerica, and prime sites get snapped up within hours. Black Bear Campground and the Newburgh KOA fill up by April for July and August weekends. For weekday or shoulder-season trips, 2 to 4 weeks is usually plenty. If you're flexible, set ReserveAmerica notification alerts for cancellations, they happen constantly. Insider tip: many savvy locals book Sunday-to-Thursday stays in October to get cheaper rates and quieter trails, with the same gorgeous Hudson Valley leaves you'd see on a packed Saturday.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Monsey?
Driving an RV around Monsey is manageable with one big rule: stay off the parkways. New York's scenic parkways (Palisades, Saw Mill, Hutchinson, Taconic) ban commercial vehicles and restrict RVs above certain heights and weights. Stick to I-87 (the New York State Thruway), I-287, and Route 17/I-86 instead, all RV-friendly with proper clearances. Monsey itself has some narrow village streets, so if you're new to big rigs, ask your host to deliver. Watch for sudden afternoon thunderstorms in summer and black ice on Route 306 in winter. Pro tip: download the Trucker Path or RV Life GPS app, they route you around low bridges automatically.

Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and built-in generator or solar setup, ideal for the off-grid sites at Harriman where there's no shore power. Mileage policies vary by host, with most offering 100 to 150 free miles per night and unlimited-mileage upgrades available. Pickup and dropoff windows are set by each host and shown on the listing. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037943453-Delivery-options-for-your-rentalHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Monsey?
Payment for your RV rental in Monsey is handled securely through the RVezy platform, no cash, no wire transfers, no awkward exchanges with the host. You'll pay your trip total at booking with a credit or debit card, and the protection plan and service fees are bundled right in. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup, the exact amount is shown on the listing before you book and it's released back to you after the trip assuming the RV comes back in the same condition. To avoid any deposit issues: do a video walkaround with your host at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and empty the waste tanks if your host requests it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV overnight in or near Monsey if I'm not at a campground?
While Monsey itself has local ordinances against extended street parking of RVs in residential zones, you have solid options nearby. Some Walmart stores in Rockland and Orange counties allow free overnight RV parking with manager permission, always call ahead to confirm. Cracker Barrel locations in the region are another well-known free overnight stop when permitted. For paid one-night stays, Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY accepts last-minute single nights, and Harriman's Beaver Pond Campground sometimes takes walk-ins when sites are open. Insider tip: never overnight at NY State Park day-use lots or Palisades Parkway pull-offs, both are patrolled and ticketed. Plan ahead and the where to park an RV in Monsey question solves itself.
