Campgrounds and RV parks near Montebello, NY

Montebello sits in Rockland County at the edge of the Ramapo Mountains, giving RV renters quick access to a dense cluster of camping options across the lower Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey Highlands. The closest developed campground is Beaver Pond Campground inside the 46,000-acre Harriman State Park, with 125 sites able to accommodate up to two tents and six people per site, and select sites able to accommodate trailers or RVs up to 30 feet in length. Just across the New Jersey line, Camp Wyanokie and Wawayanda State Park anchor a rugged, trail-heavy corner of Passaic and Sussex counties. Camp Wyanokie offers a large covered picnic pavilion, a group campsite, and more than 10 individual rustic campsites that do not have running water, toilets, electricity or WiFi, along with two latrines, fire pits and charcoal grills. Wawayanda operates under the New Jersey State Park Service. For renters who want full hookups, Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY and Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City fill the gap. Black Bear RV Park sits in Orange County about 60 miles from Times Square, with full hook-up sites, 50-amp service, back-in and pull-thru sites, no tent camping, and year-round operation.

State-park sites use two different reservation systems. New York State Parks handles Beaver Pond through Reserve America. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, with sites becoming available at 8AM Monday to Friday and 9AM Saturday and Sunday between March 15 and Labor Day. No walk-ins are allowed. New Jersey State Parks, including Wawayanda, use camping.nj.gov for online bookings. Private parks book directly. Black Bear operates year-round and requires phone reservations, and Liberty Harbor takes phone reservations for a limited number of waterfront spots. Reservations should be booked as early as possible for summer visits. Camp Wyanokie reservations are handled through its partner, Campspot, and are required for pavilion or campsite use.
