RV camping near Pleasantville, New York
Pleasantville sits in central Westchester County, roughly 30 miles north of Manhattan and within an hour's drive of several Lower Hudson Valley public campgrounds. The area works well as a base for RV travelers who want a mix of state-park nature and easy access to New York City by train or car.
The closest public RV-friendly options are in the surrounding state park system. Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park sits adjacent to Lake Welch, with select sites able to accommodate a trailer or RV up to 30 feet long, and offers convenient access to swimming beaches, hiking trails, and neighboring state park facilities. To the north, Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock State Park offers a smaller campground in the Hudson Highlands.
For RVers who want to visit NYC itself, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City offers electric and water hookups with easy transit access to Manhattan. Camp Gateway Brooklyn at Floyd Bennett Field, part of Gateway National Recreation Area, is open seasonally and welcomes both tent campers and RVs, though it has no water or electric hookups at sites.
Things to do around Pleasantville
Hiking and lake recreation dominate the nearby state parks. Harriman State Park offers extensive hiking trails, multiple lakes, and swimming beaches at Lake Welch and Lake Tiorati, plus fishing and paddling. Clarence Fahnestock State Park in the Hudson Highlands features Canopus Lake with a sandy beach, fishing, and rowboat and kayak rentals in season.
Families staying at Sylvan Lake Beach Park Inc can swim at a private beach on the spring-fed lake, fish, and paddle non-motorized boats. On-site activities include basketball, volleyball, horseshoes, and baseball/softball, plus a sandy beach and playground.
From Liberty Harbor RV Park or Floyd Bennett Field, the draw is New York City itself. Ferries, subways, and PATH trains put Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island within reach without moving the rig, and Camp Gateway sits next to Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for birding.

The Lower Hudson Valley camping season is largely tied to state-park and national-park schedules. Spring and summer are the busiest seasons and the best times for paddling and swimming. Weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day book out quickly at Beaver Pond and Pelton Pond, and holiday weekends are the most competitive.
Early fall is often the sweet spot: cooler nights, lighter crowds, and Hudson Valley foliage. Hiking and fishing remain strong through October, and Camp Gateway Brooklyn stays open into the fall as well.
Winter changes the picture. State park campgrounds in the region generally close for the cold months, and Camp Gateway Brooklyn at Floyd Bennett Field operates seasonally from April through October. Liberty Harbor RV Park operates year-round, making it a rare cold-weather RV option in the metro area. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing opportunities exist within the state park system for visitors who want winter activities alongside a heated indoor base.

Here’s the updated version with the host included: RV Trip Review We just got back from our trip and had a great experience with this RV. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and ran really well throughout the entire trip. It had plenty of space for the family and made traveling together easy and enjoyable. Plans change, and RVezy has a standardized cancellation policy that applies to every booking, not a host-by-host patchwork. Yes, your pup is welcome on plenty of trips. To find a pet-friendly RV rental Pleasantville hosts allow, toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see motorhomes and travel trailers ready to welcome four-legged co-pilots. Many hosts charge a small pet fee and ask that pets stay off furniture, so message the host before booking to confirm the details. For dog-friendly adventures nearby, try the leashed trails at Rockefeller State Park Preserve in Pleasantville's backyard or the carriage roads at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Westchester's largest park. Croton Point Park also welcomes leashed pets at its campground, making it a strong base for an RV camping Pleasantville getaway with a dog.
parks.westchestergov.com/ward-pound-ridge-reservationCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Pleasantville?
Yes, and it is often the easiest way to start your trip. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery in Pleasantville and across Westchester County, driving the rig to your driveway, a local campground like Croton Point Park, or an event venue, then leveling it, hooking it up, and walking you through every system. This is especially helpful for a first time renting an RV or if you'd rather skip driving a 30-foot motorhome through downtown traffic on Bedford Road. Turn on the Delivery filter when you search, and hosts will display their delivery radius and per-mile fee. Many will deliver within roughly 50 miles of Pleasantville, covering destinations from the Catskills to coastal Connecticut.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pleasantville%2C%20New%20YorkHow far can I drive on a Pleasantville RV trip, and what about mileage limits?
You've got plenty of road to explore. Most hosts on RVezy include between 100 and 150 free miles per night, with extra miles available at roughly $0.30 to $0.45 each, and some hosts even offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer trips. From Pleasantville, that easily covers a weekend at Lake George (about 180 miles north), a Catskills loop through Hunter and Phoenicia (around 110 miles), or a coastal run to Cape Cod (about 230 miles). Each listing clearly displays its mileage policy before you book, so there are no surprises. Pro tip: if you're planning a big RV road trip from Pleasantville, message the host and ask about a custom mileage package, many will bundle extra miles at a discount.
dot.ny.gov/Where are the best campgrounds near Pleasantville for an RV?
You're surrounded by great options for RV camping Pleasantville travelers love. Top picks include Croton Point Park (about 12 miles west), a Westchester County park with full hookups along the Hudson River; Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park (about 35 miles southwest), with shaded sites suited to smaller RVs and a swimming beach at Lake Welch; Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY (about 45 miles northwest); and the Newburgh / New York City North KOA Holiday (about 50 miles north) for full-service sites with a pool and Wi-Fi. Reserve New York state park sites through ReserveAmerica up to nine months ahead, especially for summer weekends and fall foliage dates.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/When is the best time of year for a Pleasantville RV trip?
Pleasantville delivers something different every season, but late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for an RV trip. Spring (May to early June) brings daytime highs around 60 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit and blooming dogwoods at Rockefeller State Park Preserve. Summer (June through August) is warm and humid, typically 75 to 88 degrees, ideal for Hudson River outings and Jacob Burns Film Center evenings. Fall is the headliner: from late September through late October, the Hudson Valley turns red and gold, and crisp 50 to 70 degree days are perfect for hiking and campfires. Most New York State Park campgrounds operate from mid-May through mid-October, so book early for foliage weekends.
parks.ny.gov/camping/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one around Pleasantville?
Yes, and you're in good company, first time renting an RV is how most RVezy guests start. Every host gives a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, tanks, and the propane system, so you're never handed the keys without guidance. For your first trip, consider a campervan or smaller Class C (24 feet or under) that handles Pleasantville's hilly back roads, like Bedford Road and Route 117, almost like a tall van. Avoid the Saw Mill River Parkway and Taconic State Parkway in larger rigs, since these parkways prohibit commercial vehicles and have strict height and trailer restrictions; use I-684, I-287, or I-87 instead. Choosing delivery makes the start even easier, and your host plus RVezy support are a message away throughout the trip.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/repository/parkway-restrictionsWhat if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're never stranded. Every RV rental in Pleasantville booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing across the US and Canada. If anything goes wrong, one call or message gets help dispatched, whether you're parked at Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park or rolling along I-87. RVezy's customer support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip, and your host is your fastest resource for questions about quirks specific to their rig. Snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate after your walkthrough so you have it handy if you ever need to call in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityCan I take my Pleasantville RV rental to Canada or another state?
Yes, multi-state and cross-border road trips are part of the fun. From Pleasantville, you're positioned for an RV road trip from Pleasantville to Acadia National Park in Maine (about 450 miles), the Outer Banks (about 600 miles), Niagara Falls (around 400 miles), Vermont's Green Mountains (about 200 miles), or into Canada toward Montreal (around 330 miles). Travel into Canada is allowed with many RVezy hosts, but confirm with your host before booking since coverage must be approved in advance. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Bring your passport for the Canadian border and you're set for a true cross-country adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow do I budget for fuel on a Pleasantville RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the nightly rate, and it's easy to plan for. Expect 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for Class A and larger Class C motorhomes, 12 to 16 MPG for campervans and Class B rigs, and your tow vehicle's normal MPG (minus 20 to 30 percent) when pulling a travel trailer. Gas in Westchester County typically runs higher than the New York state average, so consider filling up off the Taconic State Parkway in Putnam County or near I-84 in Fishkill where prices often drop. For a 4-night, 400-mile loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $180 to $230 in fuel. Use the GasBuddy app and fuel up before crossing into Connecticut, where prices can jump.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Pleasantville?
Book sooner than you think, especially for weekends. New York State Parks open reservations up to nine months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and prime spots at Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park, Croton Point Park, and Clarence Fahnestock State Park fill up quickly for summer Saturdays and any fall foliage weekend in October. For private parks like Newburgh KOA or Black Bear Campground, two to three months ahead is usually enough outside of holiday weekends. A smart strategy is to book your RVezy rental first, then immediately reserve your campground. Midweek stays (Sunday through Thursday) at Westchester County parks are easier to grab and often quieter, perfect for a first-time RV rental Pleasantville getaway.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are local driving conditions like around Pleasantville?
Pleasantville drives easier than people expect for a town about 35 miles from Manhattan, but there are a few quirks worth knowing. The Saw Mill River Parkway and Taconic State Parkway are scenic but prohibit commercial vehicles and any RV or trailer that exceeds posted parkway restrictions, so route motorhomes onto I-684, I-287, and the New York State Thruway (I-87) instead. Avoid rush hour on I-287 between 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. Winters can bring snow and ice from December through March, and summer thunderstorms can be intense. Check NY 511 before you head out for live road, traffic, and weather updates.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/repository/parkway-restrictionsWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Pleasantville?
Campgrounds near Pleasantville range from rustic state park sites to full-resort experiences, so you can pick what fits your style. Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park offers picnic tables, fire rings, hot showers, laundry, and a centrally located dump station, but no electric hookups (great for self-contained rigs with generators or solar). Croton Point Park has full hookups (water, electric, sewer) plus Hudson River views. Newburgh KOA Holiday delivers 50-amp full hookups, Wi-Fi, a pool, and a camp store. Most state park campgrounds have potable water fill stations near the entrance and a dump station you can use on the way out. Pro tip: at Beaver Pond, bring a fully-charged house battery or small generator since there's no shore power.
parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/beaver-pond-campgrounds-harriman-state-parkWhat's actually inside a typical RV rental in Pleasantville?
You're getting a tiny home on wheels with more than you'd expect. A typical motorhome rental Pleasantville guests book includes a full kitchen (stove, fridge, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, a dinette that converts to a bed, sleeping for 4 to 7 people, climate control (roof A/C and furnace), a TV, and seatbelted seats for travel. Most listings include a propane generator, fresh/grey/black water tanks, and exterior storage. Wi-Fi varies, some hosts provide a hotspot and others don't, so check the listing's amenities list. Campervans on RVezy are smaller but include a kitchenette, bed, and often a portable toilet. Filter listings by Sleeps count and review each host's amenity icons to match the RV to your group.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pleasantville%2C%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for my Pleasantville rental?
You can customize your rental to skip most of the prep work. Popular RVezy add-ons in Pleasantville include kitchen and linen kits (often $35 to $75), bike racks, camping chairs, generators, propane tank fills, and pet-cleaning fees. Many hosts also offer pre-stocking with firewood, water, or groceries for an extra fee. For pickup, you'll typically meet your host at their home or a nearby location for a 30 to 45 minute walkthrough, or upgrade to delivery so the RV arrives ready to camp. Mileage allowances vary by host (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per night), and generator hours are often included for the first 2 to 3 hours per day. Review each listing's add-on list before booking so your trip is fully equipped.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pleasantville%2C%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Pleasantville RV rental?
Payment is straightforward and secure, all handled through RVezy and never directly to the host. You'll pay the rental amount (nightly rate, fees, protection, and any add-ons) at the time of booking using a credit or debit card. A separate refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before your trip starts; the amount varies by RV and is released after a clean return. To protect your deposit, dump the tanks if required by your host, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, take date-stamped photos at pickup and dropoff, and don't smoke inside. Simple steps that keep your deposit yours.
