Campgrounds and RV parks near Roessleville, NY

Water access is a main draw close to the city. Arrowhead Marina and RV Park sits along the Mohawk River, part of the Erie Canal, with an on-site boat launch and docks that give direct access to the canal corridor. From nearby Scotia and Glenville, the Mohawk-Hudson Bikeway runs paved miles along the canal. At Thacher State Park, the campground provides access to over 25 additional miles of trails for summer hiking and mountain biking, and winter cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and snowmobiling, plus dramatic views from the Helderberg Escarpment overlooks. Thompson's Lake itself features a sandy beach with summer swimming when lifeguards are on duty. For families with younger kids, Adventure Bound Deer Run offers on-site water play features and pools during the summer season. Downtown Albany, Troy, and Saratoga Springs are all within a short drive for museums, dining, and horse racing.

The camping calendar in this part of New York is short. Most private and state park campgrounds run from spring through mid-fall, and winter RV camping is limited. At Thompson's Lake, Loop A operates from early May through mid-October, while Loop B runs from late May through early September. Alps Family Campground and both Adventure Bound Deer Run properties typically operate a similar spring-through-fall season, with seasonal sites filling early. Arrowhead Marina is in high demand from May 15 through October 15 each year. Summer is peak season. July and August bring warm days, active swim beaches, and the Saratoga racing meet, so weekends book out well in advance. Late spring and early fall are quieter, with cooler nights and fewer bugs. Albany experiences a humid continental climate, marked by very large seasonal temperature contrasts. Summers are warm, while winters are cold and bring significant snowfall. Precipitation is fairly wet overall, spread relatively evenly throughout the year, with winter moisture often arriving as snow. Foliage typically peaks in the second and third weeks of October across the Helderbergs and Rensselaer Plateau.

Hookup availability varies sharply between state and private campgrounds. There are no electric, water, or sewer hookups at individual sites at Thompson's Lake, so RV renters counting on shore power should choose a private park. By contrast, Arrowhead Marina offers 64 mostly shaded sites, including 9 pull-through options with 50-foot parking pads. Full hookups are available with 30- and 50-amp electrical, water, and sewer connections, along with a dump station. Rules at state park campgrounds are strict on quiet time and generators. Campers arriving after 9 PM are asked to call the park or risk losing the reservation. A maximum of two vehicles are allowed per site. Pets are welcome at state park campgrounds with proof of rabies vaccination. Pets must be on a leash no longer than 6 ft. and under control at all times.
