Camping near Rosendale, New York
Rosendale sits in Ulster County in the mid-Hudson Valley, roughly 90 miles north of New York City and about 15 miles west of Poughkeepsie. The village is wedged between the Wallkill River, the Rondout Creek, and the Shawangunk Ridge, which puts RV renters within easy reach of two very different landscapes: the wide Hudson River corridor to the east and the cliff-and-lake country of the Shawangunks and lower Catskills to the west.
Most campgrounds in the area sit within a 30-minute drive of the village. Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park anchors the Hudson River side in Staatsburg, while private RV parks such as So-Hi Campgrounds, Rondout Valley RV Campground, New Life Campground, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lazy River cluster around Accord, Kerhonkson, and Gardiner on the western side.
The mix works well for renters who want one park base and multiple day trips. Expect wooded sites, mid-sized to large private resorts with hookups, and a state-park option that leans rustic.
Things to do around Rosendale
The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail runs right through Rosendale and links to the Hudson Valley Rail Trail, giving families miles of flat, stroller- and bike-friendly path. The nearby Shawangunk Ridge holds Minnewaska State Park Preserve and Mohonk Preserve, with sky lakes, cliffs, and well-known routes such as the hike to Gertrude's Nose for panoramic ridge views.
On the Hudson side, Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park offers riverfront trails, a marina with boat and kayak access, and the adjacent Staatsburgh State Historic Site. New Paltz, about ten minutes south, is the practical hub for groceries, farm stands, breweries, and the Shawangunk Wine Trail.
Rainy-day options include Historic Huguenot Street in New Paltz and the on-site water park and lazy river at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lazy River in Gardiner.

The main camping window runs mid-April through late October or early November. Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park operates on a defined camping season, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lazy River in Gardiner typically opens in mid-April and closes in early November, with a defined peak season from late June through Labor Day.
July and August are the busiest months, with warm, humid days and the fullest calendar of on-site activities at family resorts. Late spring and early fall are quieter and more comfortable for hiking the Shawangunks, though at private parks non-peak activities are often limited to weekends.
Late September into mid-October brings Hudson Valley foliage, apple and pumpkin season, and cooler nights that can dip near freezing. Winter camping is limited: the state-park campground closes, and most private RV parks in the area shut down or convert to seasonal-only use until spring.

How to book a campground near Rosendale
Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park reservations go through the New York State Parks ReserveAmerica system, online or by phone at 1-800-456-CAMP. Camping reservations can be made up to nine months in advance on a rolling window, and same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival. The park has 44 tent sites and 10 cabins, with a limited number of electric sites; there are no full-hookup RV pads.
Private parks are booked directly. Rondout Valley RV Campground in Accord is a Thousand Trails property and takes reservations by phone or through its website, with a typical operating season from mid-April into late October or early November. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lazy River, So-Hi Campgrounds, and New Life Campground book direct as well; for holiday weekends and peak summer, plan several months out.
What to expect on the ground
Roads into the Shawangunk foothills are winding and, in places, unpaved for the final stretch. Larger rigs should confirm site length and access before booking, particularly at Rondout Valley RV Campground, where reviewers note mostly back-in sites and some tight interior roads. So-Hi Campgrounds is a smaller, wooded park with limited amenities compared to the large family resorts.
Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park is a traditional wooded campground with a central comfort station, water spigots throughout, and no hookups on most sites. Cell service in and around the ridge can be spotty.
Expect a family-heavy mix in July and August, especially at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lazy River. Quiet hours are enforced at most parks, black bears are present in the region, and firewood must generally be sourced locally to prevent the spread of invasive pests.

New York State does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for any motorhome you can book on RVezy, including Class A, Class B campervans, and Class C motorhomes. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Rosendale%2C%20New%20YorkWhere are the best campgrounds near Rosendale, NY?
The best campgrounds near Rosendale put you within a short drive of Main Street and the Rondout Creek. Top picks include Rondout Valley Campground in Accord (full hookups, pool, and family activities about 10 miles away), Samuel F. Pryor III Shawangunk Gateway Campground in Gardiner (ideal for climbers and hikers in the Shawangunks), and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Birchwood Acres in nearby Woodridge for families. For state-park RV camping, Mills Norrie State Park in Staatsburg sits across the Hudson and offers riverside sites. Book Shawangunk Gateway well ahead for fall foliage weekends, it fills up fast.
parks.ny.gov/parks/mills-norrieWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Rosendale?
Late April through late October is prime season for RV camping in Rosendale, with the sweet spots being mid-May through June (lush green Catskills, daytime highs in the 70s) and late September through mid-October for Hudson Valley fall foliage. Summer (July to August) brings highs in the mid-80s and warm Rondout Creek swims, though it's also the busiest stretch. Winter trips are possible but cold, January lows average around 17 degrees Fahrenheit, so look for an RV with a heated underbelly and shore power. Time your visit to the Rosendale International Pickle Festival in late fall or the Rosendale Street Festival in July for a true local experience.
weather.gov/aly/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?

Book a travel trailer with delivery for your first trip and you'll get the full RV experience without ever needing to back up or maneuver a big vehicle.

Roadside covers common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trips from Rosendale?
An RV road trip from Rosendale puts the entire Hudson Valley and Catskills at your tires. Top routes: head about 25 miles northwest into the Catskill Forest Preserve for Kaaterskill Falls and Phoenicia (great for swimming and tubing the Esopus); drive 60 miles north to Albany or about 90 miles south to NYC's outskirts; loop the Shawangunk Wine Trail through Gardiner and Walden; or push roughly 140 miles north to Lake George for Adirondack vibes. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed by some hosts with proper paperwork, but travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. The 22-mile Wallkill Valley Rail Trail also makes a perfect base, park the RV in Rosendale and bike out to New Paltz for lunch.
iloveny.com/places-to-go/catskills/What should I budget for fuel on a Rosendale RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost on an RV trip, but it's manageable in Rosendale. Expect 8 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class C motorhome, 6 to 8 for a Class A, and 14 to 18 for a Class B campervan rental Rosendale travelers love. Tow vehicles pulling travel trailers average 10 to 14 mpg. New York gas prices typically run a bit above the national average, around $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon in Ulster County in recent months. For a weekend loop of 200 miles in a Class C, budget roughly $80 to $100 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the larger stations on Route 32 in New Paltz or Route 28 in Kingston, they're easier to maneuver than Rosendale's smaller in-town pumps.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Rosendale?
For peak season (Memorial Day through Columbus Day weekend), book campgrounds near Rosendale at least 6 to 8 weeks ahead, and 4 to 6 months ahead for fall foliage weekends in late September and early October, which sell out fastest. New York State Parks like Mills Norrie use the ReserveAmerica system and open reservations 9 months in advance, so set a calendar reminder. Private parks like Rondout Valley Campground and Yogi Bear's Jellystone book directly through their websites or by phone. Weekday stays are far easier to score last-minute. If a weekend looks full, try arriving Sunday night and staying through Wednesday, you'll often find open sites and quieter trails.
parks.ny.gov/reservations/What are driving conditions like around Rosendale?
Driving an RV around Rosendale is refreshingly low-stress. Route 32 and Route 213 through town are paved, gently graded, and built for two-way traffic with plenty of shoulder. The historic Rosendale Trestle on the rail trail is for pedestrians and cyclists only, so you won't navigate it in your rig. Watch height clearance on a few older railroad underpasses near Kingston, and avoid the narrowest stretches of Mohonk Road if you're driving anything over 25 feet. Winter brings occasional snow and black ice from December through March. If you're nervous about driving through Kingston or over the Mid-Hudson Bridge, opt for RV delivery and skip the wheel-time entirely.
511ny.org/What hookups and amenities do campgrounds near Rosendale offer?
Most campgrounds near Rosendale offer full hookups (water, 30 or 50 amp electric, and sewer), plus clean restrooms, hot showers, and on-site dump stations. Rondout Valley Campground in Accord offers full hookups, a pool, and a camp store; Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park adds family activities and water features; Samuel F. Pryor III Shawangunk Gateway Campground in Gardiner provides tent and RV sites at the foot of the Shawangunks. For potable water fill-ups and dumping mid-trip, many state parks in the region have public dump stations for a small fee. Ask your host if the RV has a dedicated fresh-water hose and sewer hose included, most do, but it's worth confirming so you arrive ready.
parks.ny.gov/parks/mills-norrieWhat's inside a typical Rosendale RV rental?
Your motorhome rental in Rosendale will feel like a cozy apartment on wheels. Expect a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa for extra sleepers (most RVs sleep 4 to 8), a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower. Air conditioning, propane heat, and a hot water heater are standard. Many listings include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, camp chairs, and a propane grill. Generators are common in Class A and C motorhomes for off-grid power. Seatbelts are provided for travel, and the host's listing shows the exact sleep and seatbelt count. Filter by Sleeps count and check the photos for Wi-Fi or generator if those matter to your family RV trip in Rosendale.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Rosendale%2C%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Rosendale RV rental?
RVezy hosts in Rosendale offer plenty of useful add-ons to customize your trip: linens and towel packages, kitchen kits with dishes and utensils, bikes for the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, camp chairs, portable grills, generators, and even kayaks for paddling the Rondout Creek. Delivery and setup is the most popular add-on, with fees that vary by distance and rig. Pickup and dropoff is usually at the host's home with a 30 to 60 minute orientation. Mileage policies range from 100 miles per day to unlimited, shown clearly on each listing. Bundle delivery, linens, and bikes for a true zero-prep weekend, just show up at the campground with groceries and you're done.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Rosendale%2C%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment for your rent an RV in Rosendale booking happens securely through the RVezy platform, never in cash directly to the host. You'll pay the rental total, fees, and chosen protection plan at checkout with a credit or debit card. The host sets a refundable security deposit, which is pre-authorized on your card before the trip rather than charged outright, and is only used if there's damage or a policy violation. After dropoff and a clean inspection, the hold is released. Take date-stamped photos of the RV interior and exterior at both pickup and return, it protects you and supports a smooth release of your deposit.
