Campgrounds near Sleepy Hollow, New York
Sleepy Hollow sits on the east bank of the Hudson River in Westchester County, roughly 30 miles north of Manhattan. The village itself does not have a campground within its limits, so RV travelers base themselves at state parks in the Hudson Highlands and Ramapo Mountains, or at urban RV parks across the river in New Jersey and in New York City.
The closest public camping is northwest across the Hudson at Harriman State Park, where Beaver Pond Campground serves as the main tent and small-trailer base for the park's 200-plus miles of trails and adjoins the Lake Welch swimming area. Further north in Putnam County, Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock State Park sits in a wooded setting near a small pond and the Appalachian Trail corridor.
For travelers who want to keep the RV close to New York City sightseeing, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City provides full hookups across the Hudson, while Floyd Bennett Field at Gateway National Recreation Area in Brooklyn offers tent and RV sites on the former airfield along Jamaica Bay. Camp Wyanokie in northern New Jersey rounds out the options with rustic group and tent sites in the Wyanokie Highlands.
Things to do around Sleepy Hollow
Sleepy Hollow's core attractions cluster along Route 9: the Old Dutch Church and Burying Ground, Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Philipsburg Manor, Kykuit (the Rockefeller estate), and Lyndhurst just south in Tarrytown. The Headless Horseman legend drives heavy tourism from late September through Halloween, when Horseman's Hollow and the Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze run at capacity.
Outdoors, Rockefeller State Park Preserve offers carriage roads for walking and cycling, and the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail runs north to south through the village. The Walkway Over the Hudson and Bear Mountain Bridge are reachable in under an hour for day trips.
From the campgrounds themselves, Harriman delivers hiking on the Appalachian Trail and swimming at Lake Welch, while Fahnestock adds a sand beach on Canopus Lake with seasonal boat rentals.

The Hudson Valley camping season at most state park campgrounds runs from mid-April through late October. Beaver Pond at Harriman operates on this shoulder-to-shoulder schedule and closes for the winter. Pelton Pond at Fahnestock is currently closed while a new bathhouse is being constructed, so travelers should confirm current status with New York State Parks before booking.
Summer weekends fill fastest, especially July and August, when city residents drive up for lake swimming and cooler nights. Biting insects peak in June, and humidity peaks in July and August. Late spring and early fall offer the most comfortable RV weather.
September and October are the busiest months for Sleepy Hollow itself. Halloween-season events sell out weeks ahead, and nearby campground weekends book solid. Foliage typically peaks in mid to late October. Urban options like Liberty Harbor and Floyd Bennett Field operate on extended seasons and become the practical choice for late-fall trips.

Here’s the updated version with the host included: RV Trip Review We just got back from our trip and had a great experience with this RV. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and ran really well throughout the entire trip. It had plenty of space for the family and made traveling together easy and enjoyable. Everything worked as expected, and we felt comfortable and confident on the road. The host was also incredibly supportive, friendly, and easy to communicate with. How to book Sleepy Hollow campgrounds
New York State Park campgrounds, including Beaver Pond at Harriman and Pelton Pond at Fahnestock, are reserved through ReserveAmerica or by phone at 1-800-456-2267. The booking window opens up to nine months in advance, and popular summer weekends should be locked in as early as possible. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival. A two-night minimum usually applies on weekends, and three nights on holiday weekends.
Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City books directly through its own website; sites are tight, so early booking is recommended for holiday and event dates. Floyd Bennett Field camping is administered by the National Park Service and reserved through recreation.gov, with the booking window opening up to six months ahead. Camp Wyanokie is operated by a nonprofit and reserved through its own site, primarily for group and rustic tent camping rather than full-hookup RV stays.
What to expect at Sleepy Hollow campgrounds
Access to Sleepy Hollow from the west shore uses the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, which is E-ZPass and cashless tolling only. Village streets are narrow and hilly, so most RV travelers park the rig at the campground and drive a tow vehicle or take Metro-North into Manhattan from Tarrytown or Philipse Manor stations.
Hookups vary widely. Beaver Pond is a non-hookup campground with a maximum RV length of 30 feet, and offers comfort stations, showers, laundry, and a dump station; pets are not permitted. Liberty Harbor offers full hookups on paved sites in an urban lot. Floyd Bennett Field is self-contained camping on a former airfield, with showers and running water but no site hookups.
Cell service is reliable throughout Westchester and the urban sites, but drops in interior sections of Harriman and Fahnestock. Black bears are active in both state parks, so food storage rules are enforced.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sleepy%20Hollow%2C%20New%20YorkDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Sleepy Hollow?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Sleepy Hollow for the vast majority of rigs on RVezy. New York State only requires a Recreational Vehicle 'R' endorsement on a Class D license if the RV exceeds 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), and almost every campervan, travel trailer, and Class C motorhome rental in New York falls well under that threshold. You will need to be 25 or older with a valid license to be an approved driver on RVezy, and ID verification happens right inside the booking flow, so there is no extra trip to the DMV. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home license and you are set.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included with my Sleepy Hollow RV rental?
Every RV rental in Sleepy Hollow booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can cross the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge with real peace of mind. RVezy offers multiple protection tiers, and you choose the level of coverage that fits your comfort at checkout, the host does not set this. The plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip and pairs with roadside help that is just one phone call away, whether you are parked at Croton Point Park or exploring Hudson Valley back roads. Pro tip: review the coverage options on the checkout page and pick the tier that lets you focus on lantern tours, not paperwork.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Sleepy Hollow RV trip?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy, and there is a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in dates with confidence. Refund eligibility then depends on how far out you cancel from your trip start date, and RVezy also reviews extraordinary situations like severe Hudson Valley winter storms or hurricane remnants that occasionally hit Westchester County. The policy is consistent across the platform, so you will not see different cancellation rules on each listing. Pro tip: if your plans wobble, message your host first, many are happy to shift dates so you can still catch the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery lantern tours or fall foliage along the Hudson River.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Sleepy Hollow?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Sleepy Hollow options are easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the 'Pet-Friendly' filter and you'll see listings where hosts welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) with clear pet policies and any add-on cleaning fees spelled out upfront. Once you arrive, your pup will love the area: Rockefeller State Park Preserve has 55-plus miles of leashed-dog-friendly carriage roads just minutes north of the village, and the Old Croton Aqueduct State Historic Park trail runs right through Sleepy Hollow for easy daily walks. Most Westchester County parks require a six-foot leash and proof of a current rabies tag. Pro tip: pack a towel, the Pocantico River trails get muddy after rain.
parks.ny.gov/parks/rockefellerCan the RV be delivered to my campground or address in Sleepy Hollow?
Yes, RV delivery Sleepy Hollow is one of the smartest ways to start your trip, especially if you're flying into LaGuardia or JFK or just nervous about navigating Route 9 in a 30-foot rig. Many hosts offer delivery and setup directly to nearby campgrounds like Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson or to a private driveway in Tarrytown, Ossining, or Briarcliff Manor. Your host will level the RV, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before handing you the keys. Use the 'Delivery' filter on RVezy to see hosts offering this service and their delivery fees per mile. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer for a first time renting an RV.
westchestergov.com/parksHow far can I drive on a Sleepy Hollow RV trip, and is unlimited mileage available?

From Sleepy Hollow, popular drives are wonderfully short: about 30 miles to Bear Mountain State Park, 50 miles to the Catskills' eastern edge near Phoenicia, 75 miles to New Paltz and the Shawangunks, and 140 miles to Lake George. iloveny.com/places-to-go/hudson-valley/Where can I camp near Sleepy Hollow with an RV?
You've got great choices for RV camping Sleepy Hollow within an easy drive. Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson (about 12 miles north) sits on a Hudson River peninsula with full-hookup RV sites and is the closest option. Beaver Pond Campground inside Harriman State Park (about 25 miles west across the Tappan Zee) offers tent and RV sites among 31 lakes. Mountain Lakes Park in North Salem (about 25 miles northeast) is Westchester County's northernmost park, great for stargazing. Highland Falls RV Park & Marina (about 25 miles north on the Hudson's west bank) is open year-round with full hookups. Pro tip: these are the best campgrounds near Sleepy Hollow for fall, but October fills up by August, so reserve early.
parks.ny.gov/parks/harrimanWhen is the best time to visit Sleepy Hollow in an RV?
Honestly, fall is the dream season for a Sleepy Hollow RV trip, and not just because of the Headless Horseman legend. Mid-September through early November brings crisp 45-65°F days, blazing Hudson Valley foliage, and signature events like the Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze at Van Cortlandt Manor and Horseman's Hollow at Philipsburg Manor. Summer (June-August, 70-85°F) is fantastic for swimming and hiking, with long daylight hours for exploring Rockefeller State Park Preserve. Spring (April-May, 50-70°F) is quieter and cheaper. Winters drop to 20-35°F with occasional snow, perfect for cozy, well-heated RV stays near Tarrytown's restaurants. Pro tip: if you want October weekends, book your motorhome rental Sleepy Hollow at least 4-6 months ahead.
weather.gov/okx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in the Sleepy Hollow area?
You'll do great, and you won't be on your own. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, water, propane, and the dump valves, plus they're a text away during your trip. For a first time renting an RV near Sleepy Hollow, a Class C motorhome or campervan rental Sleepy Hollow is the easiest to handle since they drive like a large van. Stick to Route 9, Route 9A, and Interstate 87 (the New York State Thruway), which all welcome RVs. Avoid the Saw Mill, Bronx River, and Taconic State Parkways: these scenic parkways ban commercial and recreational vehicles due to low stone-arch bridges. Pro tip: ask your host to demo the backup camera before you leave the driveway.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/repository/parkways.htmlWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Sleepy Hollow trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every booking on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on a Westchester back road or a dead battery at Croton Point Park is one phone call away from being solved. Roadside can dispatch a tow, jump start, tire change, fuel delivery, or lockout service anywhere in Westchester County and beyond. Your host is also a direct resource, they know their rig's quirks and can walk you through quick fixes by phone. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's make, model, and license plate before you pull out of the driveway so you can share details fast if you ever need to call for help.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my RV across state lines or into Canada from Sleepy Hollow?
Yes, interstate travel is the whole point of an RV road trip from Sleepy Hollow, and most hosts welcome it. You're 30 minutes from Connecticut, 45 minutes from New Jersey, and easy day-drives from Vermont, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania for fall foliage loops. Cross-border travel into Canada (think Montreal, about 330 miles north) may be allowed depending on the host and their insurance, so confirm in a pre-booking message and let your host know your route. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage stops at the border. Pro tip: popular routes from Sleepy Hollow include the Hudson Valley wine trail to the Catskills, Cape Cod via I-95, and the White Mountains in New Hampshire.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and fuel won't blow your budget. Campervans and Class B rentals near Sleepy Hollow typically get 18-22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes run 8-12 MPG, and Class A rigs are usually 6-10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but expect a 20-30% MPG hit while towing. New York gas prices typically run a bit above the national average, so budget around $4.00-$4.50 per gallon in Westchester County. For a typical 200-mile weekend in a Class C, that's roughly $80-$110 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Tarrytown or Ossining before heading north; once you're up Route 9 toward Peekskill and Bear Mountain, prices climb.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I reserve a campground near Sleepy Hollow?
The earlier the better, especially for fall. New York State Parks campgrounds (including Beaver Pond at Harriman and Clarence Fahnestock State Park about 35 miles north) book through ReserveAmerica and open reservations up to nine months ahead. For October weekends near Sleepy Hollow, aim to book in March or April; summer weekends usually fill 2-3 months out. Westchester County parks like Croton Point Park reserve through the county system and also see heavy demand. Pro tip: if your dates are flexible, Sunday-through-Thursday nights are far easier to grab and quieter, plus many hosts offer discounts for stays of three nights or more on RVezy.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What are the local driving conditions like around Sleepy Hollow?
Once you know two rules, driving here is genuinely manageable. Rule one: stay off the Saw Mill River, Sprain Brook, Bronx River, and Taconic State Parkways. These scenic parkways have stone-arch bridges as low as 7-8 feet and prohibit RVs and trailers. Rule two: use truck-legal routes like Interstate 87 (New York State Thruway), Interstate 287, US Route 9, and Route 9A. The Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge (formerly Tappan Zee) is RV-friendly with a toll collected electronically. Winter brings occasional snow and ice from December through February, so check forecasts. Pro tip: download a truck-routing app like Garmin RV or CoPilot before you head out so you never get auto-routed onto a parkway.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/repository/parkways.htmlWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Sleepy Hollow?
Most campgrounds in the Sleepy Hollow area offer the essentials and then some. Croton Point Park has full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), a dump station, hot showers, and a swimming beach on the Hudson. Beaver Pond at Harriman State Park provides electric and water at many sites plus a centralized dump station and potable water fill. Highland Falls RV Park & Marina runs full hookups year-round with free WiFi. Most New York State Park campgrounds have flush toilets, hot showers, and fire rings at every site. Pro tip: if you're boondocking or staying at a no-hookup site, fill your fresh water tank and empty waste at the campground's dump station on the way in, it saves a separate stop on the way out.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What's included inside the RV (beds, kitchen, bathroom, WiFi)?
You'll be surprisingly comfortable. Most RV rentals near Sleepy Hollow come fully equipped: real beds (queens are common, plus convertible dinettes), a kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and basic cookware, and a bathroom with a toilet and shower. Class C and Class A motorhomes typically sleep 4-8 with seatbelted travel seats. Air conditioning and a furnace are standard, and many listings include a generator for off-grid power, a TV, and Bluetooth speakers. WiFi varies: some hosts include a mobile hotspot, others recommend tethering to your phone since cellular coverage is strong throughout Westchester County. Pro tip: check the listing's amenity list and message the host if you need specifics like a CPAP-friendly outlet or a roof-mounted solar panel.
fcc.gov/consumers/guides/getting-broadband-qWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts on RVezy make trips easy with smart add-ons. Common extras for a Sleepy Hollow rental include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, portable grills, generators (often charged per day if not included), and bike racks. Pickup is usually at the host's home in towns like Tarrytown, Ossining, Yonkers, or White Plains, with a full orientation included. Mileage policies and any prep or cleaning fees are listed clearly on the listing page before you book. RV delivery Sleepy Hollow to your campground is widely available, often a per-mile fee each way. Pro tip: add the linen package on your first rental, it removes one of the biggest hassles of starting a family RV trip Sleepy Hollow weekend.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sleepy%20Hollow%2C%20New%20YorkHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book an RV rental in New York through RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host in cash. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV) to cover potential incidentals like excess mileage, missing fuel, or minor damage. If everything is returned in good shape, the hold is released after your trip wraps. To avoid issues, do a quick walkaround video with your host at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the fuel level you received, and empty the tanks if required. Pro tip: keep all communication inside the RVezy app, it is your paper trail if any questions come up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Sleepy Hollow?
You're perfectly positioned for an unforgettable RV road trip from Sleepy Hollow. Head 30 miles west to Bear Mountain State Park for Hudson River overlooks and the Perkins Memorial Tower. Drive 35 miles north to Clarence Fahnestock State Park in Carmel for 14,000 acres of trails and a quiet campground. Roll 50 miles northwest to Phoenicia and the Catskills for tubing on Esopus Creek. Cruise 75 miles north to New Paltz and the Shawangunk Ridge for world-class hiking. Push 140 miles to Lake George for the southern Adirondacks. Pro tip: a five-night Hudson Valley loop (Sleepy Hollow > Bear Mountain > New Paltz > Catskills > home) is the perfect first-timer itinerary and keeps daily driving under two hours.
