Campgrounds and RV parks near South Fallsburg, NY

Trail time is easy to line up. The Sullivan O and W Rail Trail includes multiple developed segments, including a Hurleyville to South Fallsburg section and a Woodridge to Mountaindale section, both open for walking and biking. The Hurleyville segment features a paved, ADA-accessible stretch that runs through the hamlet. Families staying at private resorts typically use them as a home base for pool days, playgrounds, and mini-golf, then head out for fishing, kayaking, or short hikes on nearby state land. Day-trip options push further into the range. The Catskills draw visitors for fly fishing, skiing, hiking, and kayaking, and landmarks like Kaaterskill Falls and the former Catskill Mountain House site are reachable by RV in roughly an hour and a half.

The South Fallsburg area has a humid continental climate with four clear seasons. Summers are warm and humid while winters are cold and snowy, spring and fall are mild, average summer highs reach into the mid-80s, and average winter lows dip below freezing. Monticello, the nearest reporting station, averages about 66 inches of snow per year, so shoulder-season RV travel calls for a heater and cold-weather gear. Summer is the high season for campers, when warm temperatures draw travelers out of the city. Autumn has strong appeal as well when the hardwoods turn, and fall foliage weekends from late September through mid-October tend to be the tightest for reservations after peak summer. Most private campgrounds in Sullivan County operate from spring through mid or late October, while DEC campgrounds in the Catskill Forest Preserve run a shorter summer season, typically from mid-to-late May through mid-October, with exact dates varying by facility. Winter RV camping in the area is limited, and many private parks close entirely.

Sites in Sullivan County tend to be wooded and rolling rather than open and flat. Private resorts near South Fallsburg cater to RVs with full or partial hookups, laundry, camp stores, pools, and family programming, which suits renters new to towing. Expect black bears in the broader Catskill region. Store food and trash inside a hard-sided vehicle overnight, or hang it well off the ground, and keep the site clean to avoid attracting wildlife. Firewood rules are strict. It is against New York State law to bring untreated firewood from more than 50 miles away, so buy locally to prevent the spread of pests and disease. Cell service is patchy in the hills, so download maps before leaving pavement.
