Campgrounds and RV parks near Spackenkill, NY

The Hudson River drives most trip planning. Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park has a marina with a boat launch, river access for kayaks, and trails that thread through the adjoining Mills estate, with fishing on the Hudson for bass, catfish, and perch. Clarence Fahnestock State Park adds miles of hiking trails and fishing for bass, pickerel, perch, and trout on Canopus and Stillwater lakes. Families with kids gravitate to the resort campgrounds. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lazy River in Gardiner runs themed weekends along the Wallkill River, while the New York City North / Newburgh KOA Holiday offers two pools, a jumping pillow, mini golf, and planned activities from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Sylvan Lake Beach Park Inc rounds out the options with swimming, boating, and fishing on a private lake.

The main camping window in the mid-Hudson Valley runs roughly April through October, matching the schedules of most local campgrounds. New York City North / Newburgh KOA Holiday operates April 1 through October 31, and Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park's campground runs late April through mid-October, with dates set each year by New York State Parks. Summer is peak season. July and August draw the heaviest bookings, with holiday weekends filling weeks or months out at the private resorts. Weekend reservations at state park campgrounds also go quickly. Note that the campground at Clarence Fahnestock State Park is closed for the 2026 season while a new bathhouse is built, so trip planners should confirm status before booking; the group wilderness campground remains open through the park office. September and early October bring cooler nights and Hudson Valley foliage, a strong shoulder season for RV travel. Winter closes campgrounds, though the parks stay open for day use, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.

Hookups vary widely. Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park welcomes RVs but has limited electric service (six electric sites among 44 tent sites and 10 cabins), with a central comfort station, showers, and a dump station. The Newburgh KOA offers full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, water, sewer, and cable at many sites, plus pull-through sites that accommodate rigs up to about 90 feet. Sites at state parks tend to sit close together under tree cover, which cuts privacy but suits families. Resort parks are more open, with pools, playgrounds, and camp stores on-site. Quiet hours at state park campgrounds are strictly enforced. Firewood rules apply: untreated wood generally cannot be moved more than fifty miles to the campground. Pets are welcome at most campgrounds on a leash.
