Campgrounds near Spring Valley
Spring Valley sits in Rockland County, New York, roughly 25 miles north of the George Washington Bridge and within easy reach of both the Hudson Highlands and the northern New Jersey Skylands. That location gives RV travelers access to state park campgrounds, private RV parks with full hookups, and rustic tent-only forest camps within a 45-minute to one-hour drive.
The closest developed option is Beaver Pond Campground inside Harriman State Park, adjacent to Lake Welch, which accommodates trailers and RVs up to 30 feet with no electrical hookups. West of Spring Valley, Black Bear Campground in Florida, New York offers year-round full-hookup RV sites with 20, 30, and 50-amp service in Orange County. In New Jersey, Wawayanda State Park provides tent and trailer sites near a swimming lake and the Appalachian Trail, while Camp Wyanokie offers rustic, tents-only camping bordering Norvin Green State Forest.
For travelers using Spring Valley as an NYC basecamp, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City is a full-hookup RV park within sight of Manhattan.
Things to do around Spring Valley
Hiking dominates the area. Harriman State Park alone maintains more than 200 miles of trails and includes a section of the Appalachian Trail, with Beaver Pond Campground providing direct access. Wawayanda State Park adds roughly 60 miles of marked trails plus an Appalachian Trail stretch and views from Wawayanda Mountain and Pinwheel Vista.
Water activities are central in summer. Lake Welch, adjacent to Beaver Pond Campground, has a swimming beach and picnic area within Harriman State Park. Wawayanda Lake supports swimming, boat rentals, and fishing for bass, pickerel, trout, and stocked landlocked salmon, which were introduced to the lake in 2006.
From Liberty Harbor RV Park, travelers can reach Manhattan by PATH train or by ferry, with views of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island from the waterfront.

Peak camping season runs from late spring through early fall. Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman State Park operates seasonally, typically opening in April and closing in late October. Wawayanda State Park operates its campground from April 1 through October 31. Weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day book up quickly given the proximity to New York City.
Spring and fall bring milder temperatures, thinner crowds, and strong foliage color in October. These shoulder seasons are also better for tick-sensitive travelers, though ticks remain active whenever temperatures stay above freezing and repellent is advised throughout the warm months.
Winter narrows the options considerably. State-park campgrounds close, but Black Bear Campground stays open year-round with heated water hookups, and Liberty Harbor RV Park operates year-round as well. Wawayanda State Park permits ice fishing in designated areas and allows cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on park trails during snowy periods.

Here’s the updated version with the host included: RV Trip Review We just got back from our trip and had a great experience with this RV. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and ran really well throughout the entire trip. It had plenty of space for the family and made traveling together easy and enjoyable. Everything worked as expected, and we felt comfortable and confident on the road. The host was also incredibly supportive, friendly, and easy to communicate with. They made the whole rental experience smooth and stress-free. It was a great RV for a family trip(5 people), and we would definitely rent from this host again!

How to book campgrounds near Spring Valley
New York State Parks, including Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman, use the ReserveAmerica system. Sites can be booked up to nine months in advance, and same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival. Walk-ins are permitted on campsites, and reservations can also be made by phone through the ReserveAmerica call center.
New Jersey State Parks, including Wawayanda, take reservations online through camping.nj.gov, typically up to several months in advance. Group sites often require contacting the park office directly.
Private parks handle bookings themselves. Black Bear Campground takes reservations by phone, and Liberty Harbor RV Park accepts direct reservations through its website. Camp Wyanokie is reservation-only for tent sites and does not accommodate RVs.
What to expect on arrival
Site setup varies widely between the state parks and the private RV parks. Beaver Pond Campground has no electrical hookups, allows one vehicle per site, prohibits pets and alcohol, and limits RVs and trailers to 30 feet. Comfort stations with showers, laundry, and a dump station are on-site. Wawayanda's campground is more rustic: water must be carried from the main office building, and there are no shower facilities at the tent sites.
Black Bear Campground offers full hookups with 20, 30, and 50-amp service, a pool, laundry, cable, and a dump station, and can accommodate big rigs with both back-in and pull-through sites. Liberty Harbor RV Park has 30- and 50-amp electric plus water hookups, a dump station, showers, and laundry, but limited green space.
Black bears inhabit Harriman, Bear Mountain, and the northern New Jersey highlands, so food should be stored properly at any campsite in the region.
