Campgrounds near Stone Ridge, New York
Stone Ridge sits in Ulster County between the Catskill Mountains and the Shawangunk Ridge, along the Rondout Valley in New York's Hudson Valley. The hamlet works as a practical base for RV trips into the mid-Hudson region, with campgrounds ranging from full-hookup resorts to state park sites within a short drive.
Closest to town, So-Hi Campgrounds and Rondout Valley RV Campground serve travelers looking to stay near the Rondout Creek corridor. Rondout Valley is a Thousand Trails property with campsites from basic to full hookup, along with rental cabins. Families often head to Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lazy River in nearby Gardiner for themed activities and cabin options.
For state-park camping, Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park lies across the Hudson near Staatsburg, offering tent and trailer sites and cabins along the river. Farther south in Wallkill, the New York City North / Newburgh KOA Holiday accommodates larger rigs and functions as a staging point for day trips to the lower Hudson Valley, West Point, and local wineries.
Things to do near Stone Ridge
The Shawangunk Mountains, known locally as the Gunks, draw hikers and climbers within a short drive of Stone Ridge. Minnewaska State Park Preserve and the Mohonk Preserve offer trails, waterfalls, and carriage roads. Rondout Creek and nearby lakes give paddlers and anglers accessible water, and a New York State fishing license is required for river fishing.
Across the Hudson, Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park pairs riverside trails with the Norrie Point marina, kayak access, and the adjacent Dinsmore Golf Course. Staatsburgh State Historic Site sits on the same grounds. Families staying at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park: Lazy River or the Newburgh KOA can round out trips with mini golf, pools, and hayrides, along with nearby apple orchards and Hudson Valley wineries.

The Hudson Valley runs four distinct seasons. Most private campgrounds in the Stone Ridge area operate on a seasonal schedule, roughly May through October, with the busiest weekends running from Memorial Day through Labor Day and again during fall foliage in early to mid October.
New York State Park campgrounds, including Margaret Lewis Norrie, typically open the camping season in May and close in October, though many park grounds remain open year-round for day use, hiking, and cross-country skiing. The Newburgh KOA operates seasonally, with its pool open in summer.
Spring brings mud, black flies at higher elevations, and swollen creeks after snowmelt. Summer is warm and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common. Fall weekends fill quickly with leaf-peepers heading into the Catskills and Shawangunks. Winter closes most private RV resorts and freezes exposed hookups, so cold-weather RV travelers should confirm site availability and utilities before booking.

How to book a site
New York State Parks, including Margaret Lewis Norrie, use the ReserveAmerica system. Reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, with sites becoming available at the 9-month window at 8AM Monday through Friday and 9AM Saturday and Sunday between March 15 and Labor Day. Reservations can also be made by phone at 1-800-456-2267. Same-day reservations at campsites are allowed until 3PM on the day of arrival, and cabins, cottages, and yurts can be reserved up to one day prior to arrival.
Rondout Valley RV Campground is a Thousand Trails property and takes reservations directly through Thousand Trails. The Newburgh KOA books through the KOA site or app. For popular summer weekends and fall foliage, reserve well in advance.
What to expect on arrival
Sites in the Stone Ridge area range from wooded, tree-shaded pads to open riverside spots. Rondout Valley offers wooded RV sections with full hookups available on many sites. Margaret Lewis Norrie has a mix of tent and trailer sites along with cabins; the campground does not offer individual site hookups, and water is available at shared spigots.
Check-in windows vary. Rondout Valley typically opens campsite check-in in the early afternoon with a late-morning checkout, and enforces a minimum check-in age. Newburgh KOA sets RV check-in at 2 p.m. and checkout at noon.
Cell coverage is generally reliable in the Rondout Valley and along the Hudson, but thins out inside the Catskill and Shawangunk backcountry. New York's firewood rule requires firewood used at state park campgrounds to be sourced within a 50-mile radius, and quiet hours at state park sites run from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Stone Ridge, NY
How much does an RV rental in Stone Ridge, NY actually cost?
RV rental in Stone Ridge, NY is one of the best-value ways to explore the Catskills and Hudson Valley. Expect nightly rates of roughly $90 to $175 for travel trailers, $150 to $250 for Class C motorhomes, and $200 to $400 for larger Class A rigs, with prices typically lowest in late April, early May, and again in November. Hosts set their own pricing, so filtering by your dates and using the price slider will surface the cheap RV rental Stone Ridge options first. Pro tip: midweek bookings (Sunday through Thursday) often shave 15 to 25 percent off weekend pricing, and shoulder-season foliage in early October is gorgeous without peak-summer rates.
iloveny.com/places-to-go/catskills/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Stone Ridge, NY?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Stone Ridge for virtually every rig on RVezy. New York State only requires a special R endorsement on your Class D license for motorhomes with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds or longer than 40 feet, and almost every listing in the Hudson Valley falls well under that threshold. You'll need to be 25 or older and upload a valid driver's license during booking, which RVezy verifies through the platform. International visitors should grab an International Driving Permit (IDP) from their home auto club before traveling, usually under $20, and you're road-ready.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/driver-license-class-descriptionsWhat protection comes with my Stone Ridge RV rental?
Every RV rental in Stone Ridge booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head out on US-209 toward the Catskills with real peace of mind. You choose your coverage level at checkout (not the host), with options that scale up physical damage protection for the RV during your trip. Roadside help, lockout service, jump starts, and tire support are all built in. For first-time renters, this bundled coverage is often the moment a Hudson Valley RV trip starts to feel genuinely low-stress.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Stone Ridge RV trip?
You can book your Stone Ridge RV trip with confidence because RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the host), and there is a grace-period window right after booking when you can cancel for a full refund. After that, the refund amount depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. The full current policy is available in the RVezy Help Center and your booking confirmation. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rigs for fall foliage in the Catskills, knowing your grace-period cancellation has your back.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Stone Ridge?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rental Stone Ridge options are plentiful. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see hosts who welcome dogs, often with no extra fee or a small cleaning add-on. Once you are rolling, your pup will love the area: Minnewaska State Park Preserve allows leashed dogs on most carriage roads, the Mohonk Preserve has dog-friendly trails with a daily pass, and the Ashokan Rail Trail is a flat, leashed-dog favorite of about 11.5 miles. Pro tip: Kenneth L. Wilson Campground in Mount Tremper accepts leashed pets with proof of rabies vaccination, so pack the paperwork.
parks.ny.gov/parks/minnewaska/details.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or rental property in Stone Ridge?
Yes, RV delivery Stone Ridge is one of the most popular options, especially for first-time renters who don't want to drive a big rig down winding Route 209 or up into the Catskills. Many hosts will deliver and set up the RV at your campground, a friend's driveway, a wedding venue in High Falls or Accord, or a festival site, then walk you through every system before they leave. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see who offers it and their per-mile fees. Pro tip: delivery to Rondout Valley Resort or So-Hi Campground is a local favorite because you skip driving entirely and the host handles the hookups.
iloveny.com/places-to-go/catskills/towns/stone-ridge/How far can I drive on a Stone Ridge RV trip, and what about mileage limits?
You have serious range from Stone Ridge, and many hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage or a generous daily allowance (typically 100 to 150 miles per day, with extra miles around $0.35 to $0.50). That is plenty for a classic Hudson Valley loop. Popular drives include Woodstock (about 20 minutes), Minnewaska State Park (25 minutes), Kingston waterfront (20 minutes), the Walkway Over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie (about 35 miles), and Hunter Mountain (around 50 miles). For a bigger RV road trip from Stone Ridge, you can reach Lake George in roughly 3.5 to 4 hours or the Adirondacks in 4 to 5. Always confirm the mileage policy on the listing before you book.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106514-Understanding-mileage-and-generator-usageWhere should I camp during my Stone Ridge RV trip?
You're spoiled for choice for RV camping Stone Ridge. Within a 30-minute drive you'll find So-Hi Campground in Accord (rustic, wooded, great for quiet stays), Rondout Valley Resort & Campground (full hookups, pool, family-friendly), Thousand Trails Rondout Valley in Accord (large sites and amenities), Kenneth L. Wilson Campground in Mount Tremper (state-run, near Esopus Creek), and Saugerties/Woodstock KOA about 30 miles north. For something more rugged, North-South Lake Campground in Haines Falls is a stunning state campground in the Catskills. Pro tip: New York State campgrounds book on ReserveAmerica up to 9 months in advance, so reserve early for July, August, and October foliage weekends.
dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/campingWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Stone Ridge?
The sweet spot is May through mid-October, with two genuine peaks. Late May through June brings 70s and 80s with lush green Catskills and lower bug pressure than midsummer. Late September through mid-October is the legendary Hudson Valley foliage window, with crisp 50 to 65 degree days perfect for hiking Mohonk and the Shawangunks. July and August are warm (highs around 80 to 83 degrees) and great for swimming holes like Peekamoose Blue Hole. Winters are cold (January lows around 19 degrees with regular snow), so most hosts close their listings December through March. Pro tip: book foliage weekends by mid-August because they sell out fast.
weather.gov/aly/I've never driven an RV before. Is this really doable in the Hudson Valley?
Yes, and Stone Ridge is actually a great place for first time renting an RV. Most Hudson Valley listings are Class C motorhomes, campervans, or travel trailers under 30 feet, which drive much like a large van or pickup. Your host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering the slides, generator, water, propane, dump valves, and driving tips, and they're a text away during your trip. The roads around Stone Ridge (US-209, NY-213, NY-28) are wide, well-paved, and far less stressful than NYC traffic. Pro tip: choose a Class B campervan or under-25-foot Class C for your first trip, then graduate to a bigger rig next time.
dot.ny.gov/main/business-center/consultants/safety-drivingWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat on the Quickway, run out of fuel near Ellenville, or have a mechanical issue at a Catskills trailhead, one phone call gets help dispatched. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app for guidance on quirks specific to their rig, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the RV VIN and license plate at pickup and screenshot the host emergency contact, so everything is at your fingertips if you need it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Stone Ridge rental on a longer road trip or across state lines?
Yes. Stone Ridge sits at a road-trip crossroads, and most hosts welcome interstate travel within the US. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance, so confirm in the message thread before booking; Mexico is not permitted. Popular RV road trip from Stone Ridge routes include Acadia National Park in Maine (about 8 to 9 hours), the Finger Lakes (4 to 5 hours west), Niagara Falls (about 6 hours), Cape Cod (5 to 6 hours), and the White Mountains of New Hampshire (about 5 hours). Pro tip: confirm any out-of-state plans with the host up front so they can adjust mileage if needed.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008794-Crossing-the-border-with-a-rental-RVWhat should I budget for fuel on a Hudson Valley RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, so plan smart. Class B campervans get roughly 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A rigs 6 to 10 MPG. Gas prices in Ulster County typically run a bit above the national average, often $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon for regular. For a 4-day, 300-mile loop from Stone Ridge through Woodstock, the Catskills, and Kingston, budget around $90 to $180 for fuel in a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Kingston or New Paltz where prices tend to be lower than smaller hamlet stations along Route 28.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Stone Ridge?
For the best campgrounds near Stone Ridge, book as early as possible, especially for summer weekends and October foliage. New York State campgrounds (Kenneth L. Wilson, North-South Lake, Woodland Valley) open reservations on ReserveAmerica up to 9 months ahead and the prime weekends sell out within hours of release. Private parks like Rondout Valley Resort and Saugerties/Woodstock KOA take direct bookings and often have midweek availability even in peak season. Pro tip: if you're flexible, Sunday-through-Thursday stays in late June or early September give you the same scenery with far easier reservations and lower nightly rates.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Stone Ridge?
Driving around Stone Ridge is refreshingly relaxed compared to the metro NYC area. US-209 and NY-28 are the main RV-friendly arteries, both well-maintained two-lane highways with gentle grades. The town itself sits in the Rondout Valley with the Shawangunk Ridge to the west and the Catskill High Peaks to the north, so expect some climbing on routes like NY-28A toward Ashokan Reservoir or NY-44/55 over the Shawangunks (steep with switchbacks, fine for most RVs but go slow). Watch for deer at dawn and dusk and winter ice November through March. Pro tip: avoid the Bear Mountain Bridge in a tall rig and use the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge instead.
511ny.org/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Stone Ridge?
Local campgrounds offer a great mix. Private parks like Rondout Valley Resort and Saugerties/Woodstock KOA typically provide full hookups (water, electric 30/50 amp, sewer), wifi, laundry, pools, and on-site dump stations. State campgrounds like Kenneth L. Wilson and North-South Lake offer electric-only or no-hookup sites with potable water spigots, dump stations, and clean bathhouses but no sewer at the site. For dumping and water fills between stays, Rondout Valley Resort and Hidden Valley Lake Campground both accept non-guests for a small fee. Pro tip: ask your host how the fresh water tank fills and where the gray/black tank valves are during your walkthrough so dump day is stress-free.
dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/camping/campground-rules-regulationsWhat is actually inside a typical Stone Ridge RV rental?
More than you would expect. A typical motorhome rental Stone Ridge listing on RVezy comes with a queen or king bed, a convertible dinette or bunk beds (so most sleep 4 to 6), a full kitchen with fridge/freezer, stovetop, microwave, sink, and cookware, a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, furnace, and a generator or shore power for off-grid stays. Many hosts include outdoor chairs, a grill, leveling blocks, and starter supplies like toilet paper and dish soap. Seatbelts are provided for the listed sleeping/seating capacity. Pro tip: filter for listings with a generator and roof AC if you are traveling in July or August when Catskills humidity peaks.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stone%20Ridge%2C%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and options can I expect with my Stone Ridge RV rental?
Hosts offer genuinely useful add-ons that make your trip easier. Common options include linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), additional generator hours, bike racks, propane refills, portable grills, kayaks or paddleboards, and even pre-stocked groceries. Delivery and setup is a popular paid add-on, and hosts in Stone Ridge often deliver as far as Woodstock, New Paltz, Hudson, or Bethel Woods for a per-mile fee. Pickup and dropoff windows are set by the host (often 1 to 4 pm pickup, 11 am dropoff), and many will flex on timing if you message them. Pro tip: book bedding and a kitchen kit for a stress-free arrival.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stone%20Ridge%2C%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay the full booking total (rental, protection plan, service fees, and any add-ons) through the RVezy platform when you book, using a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is held separately (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) and released back to your card after the trip, assuming no damage or policy violations. Never pay your host directly outside the platform; doing so voids your protection. Pro tip: complete the pre-trip walkaround and take date-stamped photos of the RV interior and exterior at pickup and again at dropoff. This 5-minute habit is the single best way to ensure your deposit returns smoothly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs winter RV rental in Stone Ridge possible?
Yes, winter RV adventures in Stone Ridge are doable for the right setup, and some hosts keep their listings active year-round for skiers heading to Hunter, Belleayre, or Windham Mountain. Look for listings that mention four-season insulation, heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, and a propane furnace, then confirm with the host that the rig is ready for cold weather. You will want shore power at a winter-open campground, so confirm seasonal hours directly with the campground before you book. Pro tip: January lows in Stone Ridge average around 19 degrees, so pack warm bedding, dress in layers, and follow the host instructions for keeping tanks and lines from freezing overnight.
