Campgrounds near Tarrytown, New York
Tarrytown sits on the east bank of the Hudson River in Westchester County, about 25 miles north of Manhattan. The village itself has no campgrounds, but several public and private options fall within an hour's drive on both sides of the Hudson. Renters typically head west across the Tappan Zee (Governor Mario M. Cuomo) Bridge into Rockland County or north into Putnam County for state-park camping.
The closest full-service option is Beaver Pond Campground inside Harriman State Park, adjacent to Lake Welch and roughly 25 miles north of the George Washington Bridge. Further north in Putnam County, Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock State Park offers a rustic, forested experience near Canopus Lake, though the main campground has been closed for the 2026 season for bathhouse construction.
For renters who want an urban base, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City provides full hookups within sight of the Manhattan skyline, while Floyd Bennett Field in Gateway National Recreation Area offers a primitive setting in Brooklyn when open (recent seasons have seen closures, so check status before booking). Camp Wyanokie, in the New Jersey Highlands, rounds out the list with a rustic forest setting.

The Hudson River waterfront has walking paths, kayak launches, and views of the Palisades across the river. The RiverWalk trail runs north through Sleepy Hollow toward Rockwood Hall.
For outdoor days, Harriman State Park covers more than 46,000 acres with over 200 miles of trails maintained by the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, including sections of the Appalachian Trail. Bear Mountain State Park, Rockefeller State Park Preserve, and the Croton Gorge are within easy reach. Families often combine a campground stay with day trips into Manhattan by Metro-North from the Tarrytown station.

Pelton Pond at Fahnestock has historically operated from mid-May through early November, but the main campground is closed for the 2026 season for construction of a new bathhouse. Camp Gateway at Floyd Bennett Field has had multiple recent closures, so its schedule should be confirmed with the National Park Service before planning a trip.

Fall foliage in the lower Hudson Valley peaks in mid-to-late October and is one of the busiest times for weekend bookings.

Here’s the updated version with the host included: RV Trip Review We just got back from our trip and had a great experience with this RV. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and ran really well throughout the entire trip. It had plenty of space for the family and made traveling together easy and enjoyable. Everything worked as expected, and we felt comfortable and confident on the road. The host was also incredibly supportive, friendly, and easy to communicate with. They made the whole rental experience smooth and stress-free. It was a great RV for a family trip(5 people), and we would definitely rent from this host again!
