Campgrounds near Tivoli, New York
Tivoli sits on the east bank of the Hudson River in northern Dutchess County, roughly halfway between Kingston and Hudson. The village works well as a base for RV travelers exploring the mid-Hudson Valley, with the Catskill Mountains a short drive across the river and the Taconic ridge to the east. Camping locations extend from the Hudson River shoreline to elevations above 3,000 feet in the nearby Catskill Mountains.
Most campgrounds in the area are privately operated family parks with full-hookup RV sites, cabins, and tent areas. New Life Campground and Rip Van Winkle Campgrounds Inc are among the closer options, with Blue Mountain Campground, Brook-n-Wood Family Campground, and Camp Goat Hill filling out the nearby choices. State-run camping is also available within roughly a 15-mile radius.
New York State runs a network of 119 public campgrounds, with most opening for the season by mid-May. Nearby state facilities at Mills Norrie and Lake Taghkanic add tent sites, RV sites, cabins, and cottages to the mix, so renters can choose from a range of hookup levels and settings.
Things to do near Tivoli
The Hudson River is the main draw. Renters can launch kayaks or canoes into the Tivoli Bays, a state-managed tidal wetland complex, or drive south to Mills Norrie State Park for river access, marina slips, and shoreline trails. Trails at Mills Norrie offer Hudson River views, with paddling on the water in summer and quiet walking in shoulder seasons.
The Catskills are a short drive west across the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge. Kaaterskill Falls, North-South Lake, and the Escarpment Trail all sit within about an hour of most Tivoli-area campgrounds. Olana State Historic Site in nearby Hudson preserves the home of artist Frederic Edwin Church and offers panoramic views over the Hudson River Valley.
For families, nearby Rhinebeck hosts the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome air shows, and Red Hook offers pick-your-own orchards in late summer and fall.

The Hudson Valley camping season generally runs from May through mid-October. Most of New York's public campgrounds open for the season by mid-May, and private parks in the area follow a similar warm-weather schedule, closing before hard freezes arrive. State park campgrounds at Mills Norrie and Lake Taghkanic follow that pattern as well.
Summer is peak season. July and August bring warm days, active river recreation, and full weekends at family parks. Spring through fall is the prime window for visiting the region, with spring greenery, warm summer days, and autumn foliage. Reservations for holiday weekends are often taken months in advance.
Fall is popular for foliage, which typically peaks in mid-October in the Hudson Valley and slightly earlier in the higher Catskills. Winter camping options are very limited: most parks are closed, and the few that stay open offer minimal services. Shoulder-season travelers should confirm hookup availability before booking, since water lines are often shut off in cold months.

How to book campgrounds near Tivoli
New York State Parks campgrounds, including Mills Norrie and Lake Taghkanic, are reserved through ReserveAmerica, with reservations accepted from one day up to nine months in advance of the arrival date. Popular summer weekends should be booked as soon as the nine-month window opens. A valid reservation requires an account, vehicle information, and RV length.
Private campgrounds such as New Life Campground, Blue Mountain Campground, Brook-n-Wood Family Campground, and Camp Goat Hill take bookings directly through their own websites or by phone. Some also list availability on third-party aggregators. Renters should confirm rig length limits, slide-out clearance, and hookup amperage when booking, especially for larger Class A motorhomes.
Cancellation policies vary. State parks charge fixed reservation and cancellation fees, while private parks often require full prepayment on holiday weekends.
What to expect at Tivoli-area campgrounds
Expect a mix of wooded and open sites. Woodland camping areas provide privacy and shade, with many sites tucked among mature hardwoods. Terrain in the region is rolling, so leveling blocks are useful. Cell coverage is generally reliable near the river corridor and weaker in the Catskill foothills.
Several private campgrounds feature swimming pools, playgrounds, and organized activities for families. Amenities at private parks typically include laundry, camp stores, and dump stations, while state park sites are more basic and often lack sewer hookups at the site.
Facility quality varies across locations, and seasonal campers occupy portions of some private parks, which can affect atmosphere and availability for short-term visitors. Reading recent reviews before booking is worthwhile.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Tivoli, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Tivoli, NY?
An RV rental in Tivoli is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Hudson Valley. Most travel trailers in the area book for around $95 to $185 per night, Class C motorhomes typically run $175 to $295 per night, and larger Class A rigs go higher. Prices peak during fall foliage season (late September to mid-October) when Hudson Valley demand surges. To save, book midweek, travel in May or early June before peak rates begin, and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Pro tip: pairing a smaller travel trailer with a stay at Mills Norrie State Park keeps your total trip cost well below a Rhinebeck hotel weekend.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Tivoli,%20New%20YorkWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Tivoli, NY?
Good news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Tivoli. New York State does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use RVs, even larger Class A motorhomes. To book on RVezy you generally need to be at least 25 years old, and your ID is confirmed through the platform during checkout. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto association. That's it, so you can focus on planning your scenic drive up Route 9G instead of paperwork.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental in Tivoli protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Tivoli comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you can hit the Taconic State Parkway with confidence. The protection plan covers eligible damage to the RV during your trip, giving you real peace of mind without arranging separate coverage. During checkout you'll choose the protection level that fits your trip, whether that's a quick weekend at Lake Taghkanic or a two-week Hudson Valley RV trip. The plans are designed specifically for peer-to-peer RV rentals and handle the situations that worry most first-time renters. Book knowing you're covered.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Tivoli RV trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy applies a consistent cancellation policy to every reservation, including a grace period right after you book during which you can cancel for a full refund. The exact refund amount depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. Cancellation is handled directly by RVezy, not individual hosts, so the process stays consistent across every listing. If your plans change, log into your RVezy account or contact RVezy support to start the process. That flexibility means you can lock in a great rig now and finalize your Catskills itinerary later.

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Tivoli is easy to find. Just filter listings using the Pet-Friendly toggle and you'll see rigs whose hosts welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Once you're on the road, the area is a dog lover's dream: Tivoli Bays Wildlife Management Area has leashed-dog trails right at the edge of the village, and Poets' Walk Park in nearby Red Hook offers two miles of pet-friendly paths with Hudson River views. Mills Norrie State Park, 15 minutes south, allows leashed dogs at most campsites. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any breed or size guidelines so check-in goes smoothly.
parks.ny.gov/parks/poetswalkCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Tivoli?
Yes, RV delivery in Tivoli is offered by many local hosts, which is a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV. The host drives the rig to your campground or driveway, levels it, hooks up power and water, and walks you through everything from the awning to the propane stove. Popular delivery destinations include Mills Norrie State Park, Lake Taghkanic State Park, Interlake RV Park in Rhinebeck, and private Hipcamp farms around Red Hook and Germantown. Filter by Delivery on the RVezy search page and message the host with your destination address to confirm fees and distance. It's the easiest way to start your Hudson Valley RV trip stress-free.
parks.ny.gov/parks/96How far can I travel on an RV road trip from Tivoli?
You've got incredible range from Tivoli. Hosts set their own mileage policies, and many offer generous daily allowances or even RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer trips. From Tivoli you can reach the Catskills high peaks in under an hour (about 35 miles to Hunter Mountain), Lake George in 2.5 hours (130 miles north), the Adirondacks in roughly 3 hours, the Finger Lakes wine country in about 3.5 hours, and New York City in around 2 hours. Vermont's Green Mountains are an easy 90-minute jaunt across the Hudson. iloveny.com/places-to-go/catskills/Where are the best campgrounds near Tivoli, NY?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Tivoli. Top picks include Mills Norrie State Park in Staatsburg (15 minutes south, full hookups, Hudson River frontage and a public golf course), Lake Taghkanic State Park (about 20 minutes east, with swimming beach and electric sites), Interlake RV Park in Rhinebeck (full hookups, pool, family-friendly), Rip Van Winkle Campgrounds in Saugerties (25 minutes across the river, creek access and full amenities), and Brook N Wood Family Campground in Elizaville (rustic, wooded sites with hookups). Pro tip: state park sites can be reserved up to 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and fall foliage weekends sell out fast, so lock in early.
parks.ny.gov/parks/mills-norrie/details.aspxWhen is the best time to visit Tivoli in an RV?
Tivoli shines from late April through late October, with each stretch offering something different. May and June bring mild 60s-to-70s°F days, blooming orchards, and fewer crowds. July and August warm up to the low 80s°F with occasional humid afternoons, ideal for kayaking on the Hudson at Tivoli Bays. Late September through mid-October is the legendary fall foliage window when the Catskills explode in color, and it's the single most popular time for an RV trip in the Hudson Valley. Winters are cold (averaging 20s-30s°F with snow) and most campgrounds close from November through April. Pro tip: book your fall foliage rental at least 3 months ahead.
weather.gov/aly/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Tivoli?
You've got this. First time renting an RV around Tivoli is genuinely easy because most local roads, like Route 9G, Route 9, and the Taconic State Parkway, are wide, well-maintained, and free of mountain switchbacks. Your host provides a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, dumping tanks, leveling, and propane, and you can text them throughout your trip with questions. Heads-up: the Taconic State Parkway prohibits commercial vehicles but is open to personal RVs, while the nearby Saw Mill and Hutchinson River Parkways downstate are off-limits to RVs entirely. Pro tip: choose a Class C or travel trailer under 25 feet for your first rental, then practice in the campground loop before heading out.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/repository/CommVehRestrict.pdfWhat happens if I have a breakdown during my Tivoli RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're on the Taconic, parked at Mills Norrie, or somewhere in the Catskills. Roadside covers things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. Your host is also a direct resource, since they know their rig inside and out and are reachable by message through RVezy. For non-emergency issues, RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's contact in your phone before you leave Tivoli, since cell coverage can dip in parts of the Catskills.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Tivoli RV rental into Canada or other states?
Yes, interstate travel from Tivoli is generally welcomed, and the location makes for amazing road trips. Popular routes include the drive up I-87 to the Adirondacks (about 3 hours), east into Vermont's Green Mountains (90 minutes), south to the Jersey Shore (about 3.5 hours), or west to Niagara Falls (roughly 6 hours). Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and the protection plan, so confirm directly with the host before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals since insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: bring your passport for any Canadian leg and share your full itinerary with your host upfront.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Tivoli RV trip?
Fuel is the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's manageable. In the Hudson Valley, regular gas typically runs around $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon and diesel slightly higher (always check current New York averages before you go). Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG loaded), and campervans can hit 18 to 20 MPG. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop from Tivoli through the Catskills and back, plan on $80 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Red Hook or Kingston rather than at highway rest stops on the Thruway, where prices run noticeably higher.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book campgrounds near Tivoli?
Plan ahead and you'll have your pick of the best campgrounds near Tivoli. New York State Parks like Mills Norrie and Lake Taghkanic open reservations 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and they fill quickly for summer weekends and fall foliage. Private parks like Interlake RV Park, Brook N Wood, and Rip Van Winkle Campgrounds usually book 2 to 4 months out for peak weekends but often have midweek openings within a few weeks of arrival. Pro tip: if you're targeting the legendary first two weekends of October (peak Hudson Valley color), set a calendar reminder for January to reserve the moment the 9-month window opens. Off-season campers can often score same-week reservations with full hookups.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Tivoli?
Driving around Tivoli is refreshingly straightforward. The village sits on flat-to-rolling terrain along Route 9G, and the main routes (9G, 9, and 199) handle RVs of any size with ease. Watch for two things: the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge over the Hudson has a posted height limit of 14 feet 6 inches, and the Taconic, Saw Mill, and Hutchinson River parkways downstate are restricted from commercial vehicles and, in some cases, RVs over a certain size. Winter (December through March) brings snow and ice, and most RV rentals are seasonal. Pro tip: use I-87 (the New York State Thruway) for any north-south travel longer than 30 minutes since it's RV-friendly with frequent service plazas and predictable grades.
511ny.org/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Tivoli?
Hudson Valley campgrounds near Tivoli are well-equipped. State parks like Mills Norrie offer electric hookups (some 50-amp), potable water fill stations, dump stations, hot showers, and flush toilets, while Lake Taghkanic adds a swimming beach and boat rentals. Private parks like Interlake RV Park and Rip Van Winkle Campgrounds typically include full hookups (water, electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, camp stores, and pool access. Most campgrounds have at least one on-site dump station; if you need one in transit, the Mills Norrie dump station is open to non-campers for a small fee in season. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 30-amp to 50-amp adapter so you can hook up at any site your host's rig is rated for.
parks.ny.gov/parks/mills-norrie/details.aspxWhat's included inside a typical Tivoli RV rental?
You'll find most RVs in the Tivoli area come ready for adventure. Expect a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 2 to 8 depending on the rig, climate control (furnace and roof AC), and seatbelted seating for travel. Many motorhome rental Tivoli listings also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and a generator for boondocking. Some hosts throw in linens, kitchen starter kits, camp chairs, and outdoor mats. Wi-Fi is usually BYO via your phone hotspot since campground signals can be hit-or-miss in the Hudson Valley. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities list and message the host about any must-haves like a portable grill or kayak rack before you book.
nps.gov/articles/000/rv-camping-basics.htmWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for RV rental in Tivoli, NY?
Lots of flexibility here. Many hosts in the Tivoli area offer popular add-ons like bedding and linen packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, generators, propane refills, bike racks, kayak racks, outdoor furniture, and pet cleaning fees. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Tivoli, Red Hook, Rhinebeck, or nearby Hudson Valley towns, with most hosts spending 30 to 60 minutes walking you through the rig. Many also offer RV delivery to area campgrounds or even your driveway. Mileage policies vary by listing, with some offering 100 to 200 free miles per night and others unlimited. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book if you're booking within 48 hours of your trip to skip the host approval wait.
iloveny.com/places-to-go/hudson-valley/How does payment and the security deposit work on a Tivoli RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through RVezy with a credit or debit card at the time of booking, and funds are held safely until the trip is underway, so there's no cash changing hands with the host. A refundable security deposit is placed on your card before pickup (amounts vary by rig and protection level) and is released after drop-off, assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround with your host at pickup, take date-stamped photos of any existing dings, and return the RV clean with tanks dumped if the listing requires it. Pro tip: keep fuel and dump-station receipts in case any drop-off questions come up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Tivoli for a winter trip?
Yes, a winter RV rental in Tivoli is possible and can be magical if you plan right. Some hosts offer four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable propane furnaces, ideal for snow trips to Hunter Mountain or Belleayre Mountain (both about an hour from Tivoli). Most New York State Park campgrounds close from November through mid-April, but select private and Hipcamp sites stay open year-round, and many winter renters stage their RV at a friend's driveway with shore power. Daytime highs typically run in the 20s to 30s F with nighttime lows in the teens. Pro tip: message a host early and ask specifically about cold-weather packages, snow tires, and antifreeze in the lines.
