Campgrounds and RV parks near Unionville, NY

Hiking is the headline activity. Wawayanda State Park carries a roughly twenty-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail and more than sixty miles of marked trails, with Wawayanda Mountain and Pinwheel Vista among the popular overlooks. Stokes State Forest adds Sunrise Mountain, Tillman Ravine, and Stepping Stone Falls, all reachable from the Steam Mill area. Water activities are close by. Wawayanda Lake allows swimming, canoeing, and electric-motor boating, with boat and canoe rentals available at the park. The Neversink River near the KOA is known for fly-fishing, swimming, tubing, and kayaking. Families staying at Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm can add farm activities on site. Warwick and Vernon, both a short drive away, offer apple orchards, restaurants, and Mountain Creek for skiing or the waterpark.

The prime RV season runs from spring through fall. Wawayanda State Park's family sites and Stokes State Forest's Steam Mill tent sites are seasonal: Steam Mill tent sites are open April 15 to November 15, while lean-tos and some tent sites at Shotwell in Stokes remain open year round. KOA Holiday Deerpark New York City also operates seasonally, roughly April through October, and Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm runs a similar spring-to-fall season. Summer is the busiest window. Weekends and holidays fill quickly at both private resorts and state-park sites, so booking well ahead is important, especially for lakefront and full-hookup sites. Swimming at Wawayanda Lake typically runs from late June through early September. Fall brings foliage across the Kittatinny and Wawayanda ridges and cooler nights, which is popular with hikers. Winter access is limited: most campgrounds close, forest roads can ice over, and Wawayanda sits at higher elevation with heavy snow accumulation, though cross-country skiing, ice fishing, and snowshoeing are permitted on designated trails.

Private RV parks in the area lean toward family resorts. Pleasant Acres sits on a farm property with mostly gravel sites, many shaded, plus farm animals, a pool, playground, and jump pillow. The KOA in Deerpark runs along the Neversink River with a pool open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, a jumping pillow, and a store, and offers a shuttle to the nearby commuter train. State-run sites are more primitive. Steam Mill in Stokes State Forest has a pit toilet, a well, picnic tables, fire rings, and rocky terrain best matched to tents or small trailers or campervans. Cell service can be spotty at forest sites, bears and ticks are present, and food should be stored securely. New Jersey state parks prohibit ATVs, and smoking or vaping is not permitted on state park, forest, and historic-site property.
