Campgrounds and RV parks near Vassar College, NY

Vassar College sits in Poughkeepsie, on the east side of the Hudson River in Dutchess County. RV campgrounds cluster in two directions: north along the Hudson toward Staatsburg and Rhinebeck, and south into the Hudson Highlands of Putnam County. Most sites are within a 30 to 45 minute drive of campus, which makes the area workable for parents visiting students, fall foliage trips, or a broader Hudson Valley itinerary. Options range from state-park campgrounds to full-service private resorts. Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park offers 44 tent sites and 10 cabins for rental, and recreational vehicles are welcome, though the park does not offer hookup facilities. On the private side, Interlake RV Park has 159 campsites with 145 electric and water sites and 22 with sewage hookups, a dumping station, an in-ground heated pool, a 20-acre lake, a camp store, laundry, a snack bar, and free WiFi, while the New York City North / Newburgh KOA Holiday offers wooded RV sites with full hookups, camping cabins, and deluxe cabins with kitchens and bathrooms. Sylvan Lake Beach Park sits on a private beach along Sylvan Lake with rustic tent and full-hookup RV sites, plus seasonal sites, and activities including swimming, fishing, boating, and kayaking.

New York State Parks use a single reservation system. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival for campsites only, reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center at 1-800-456-2267, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only. Reservations must be made 1 day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 9 months in advance, so the booking window opens well before summer. Private parks book direct. Interlake RV Park, Sylvan Lake Beach Park Inc, and the New York City North / Newburgh KOA Holiday all take reservations through their own websites or by phone. KOA cancellation rules are strict: RV and tent sites typically require 7 days notice, and lodging and cabins require 14 days notice. Book fall foliage weekends and any weekend with a Vassar campus event as early as possible.
